Carroll County Junior Varsity Cavaliers Impressive In Win Against Floyd County Junior Varsity Buffaloes


Carroll County Junior Varsity Cavaliers won big over Floyd County Junior Varsity Buffaloes 8-1 on Friday.

Floyd County Junior Varsity Buffaloes were the first to get on the board in the first when Josiah Underwood grounded out, scoring one run.

Jace Dolinger grounded out, which helped Carroll County Junior Varsity Cavaliers tie the game at one in the bottom of the first.

In the bottom of the third, Carroll County Junior Varsity Cavaliers broke up the tie when an error scored one run. Then, a walk by Jayden Wright followed to extend the lead to 3-1.

Three more Carroll County Junior Varsity Cavaliers runs crossed the plate in the fourth inning to extend the lead to 6-1. An error scored one run, and Eli Busick homered to left field, scoring two runs.

Bryce Nicholson earned the win for Carroll County Junior Varsity Cavaliers. The starter surrendered one hit, and one run (zero earned) over five innings, striking out five and walking two. Josiah Underwood took the loss for Floyd County Junior Varsity Buffaloes. The hurler went four innings, surrendering six runs (two earned) on five hits, striking out one and walking three. Eli Busick tossed two innings of no-run ball for Carroll County Junior Varsity Cavaliers in relief. The pitcher allowed zero hits, striking out one and walking one.

Eli Busick went 1-for-3 at the plate and led the team with three runs batted in. Jace Dolinger led Carroll County Junior Varsity Cavaliers with two hits in three at bats. Carroll County Junior Varsity Cavaliers stole five bases in the game. Carroll County Junior Varsity Cavaliers turned one double play in the game.

Josiah Underwood led Floyd County Junior Varsity Buffaloes with one run batted in. Noah Underwood led Floyd County Junior Varsity Buffaloes with one hit in three at bats.

Carroll County Middle School Fall After Strong Showing By CMS Lady Demons

Carroll County Middle School had trouble keeping up with CMS Lady Demons in a 10-0 loss on Thursday.

CMS Lady Demons got on the board in the top of the first inning after Addy M grounded out, Mia H singled to left field, and Kinley R singled to left field, each scoring one run.

CMS Lady Demons added to their early lead in the top of the second inning after Lillian R doubled to center field, Mia H walked, Sophia M singled to the left side of the infield, and Mia H stole home, each scoring one run.

Morgan O pitched four innings in relief for Carroll County Middle School. The reliever allowed four hits and three runs (two earned) while, striking out seven and walking four. Cheyenne B started the game for Carroll County Middle School. The right-handed pitcher gave up six hits and seven runs over one inning, striking out none and walking four. Kinley R started in the circle for CMS Lady Demons. The lefty gave up five hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out 10 and walking three.

Carroll County Middle School’s Lily S, the number nine hitter, led Carroll County Middle School with two hits in two at bats.

CMS Lady Demons amassed 10 hits in the game. Kinley R, Mia H, Lillian R, and Addy M each collected two hits for CMS Lady Demons. Kinley R and Mia H were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in two runs for CMS Lady Demons. Addison F led CMS Lady Demons with three walks.

   Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, amassing eight walks for the game. Mia H and Addison F each stole multiple bases for CMS Lady Demons. CMS Lady Demons stole 10 bases in the game. CMS Lady Demons didn’t commit a single error in the field. Lillian R had the most chances in the field with 10.

Two former Cavaliers received end of the year honors πŸŽ–.

Adrienne McGuire was awarded the Teacher of the Year at Hillsville Elementary School, and Lance Burnett received two awards from the coaching staff at New River Community College.
