Mount Union and Virginia Wesleyan University finish up tied for 7th in the nation.

We break away from College Softball long enough to go Storm chasing with Bill ” Pappy ” Meade and his 9th edition of Staunton tennis 🎾
Staunton High School sits 15 miles from fellow Augusta County School, Waynesboro High School. Today, the two schools are set to square off once again, this time on the tennis courts.
Staunton High earned the right to play their neighbors by stunning the #5 seeded Liberty Christian Academy last week.
Yes, the Storm proved that 12 over 5 upsets were not limited to March Madness !
Departure time – 2:15 on the dot.
2:38 pm – arrived at Waynesboro High School, ahead of the scheduled 3:30 start time.
The two teams are very familiar with each other, and this year, they split their regular season matches. Little Giants is the nickname for WHS, and they are the #4 seed in the Regional tournament.
The Waynesboro head coach is explaining the format for today. The singles are best 2 out of 3 in the normal tennis 🎾 scoring system. The first team to accumulate five points will advance to play the #1 seed in the semifinals. Once a team has reached five points, the match is complete.
Pappy has worn many a hat over the 25 years that we have known each other. Even now, in his seventies, Meade keeps himself pretty busy. Teaching school, coaching, and playing tennis 🎾 in addition to writing ✍️ when time allows it.
Meade grew up in the area, attending the school but back when it was still called R.E. Lee High School. From R.E. Lee to William and Mary and then back to the valley he still calls home today. The Meades currently reside in Stuarts Draft and recently joined the fraternity of grandparents !

The good news is that Staunton played the six singles matches well enough that the doubles matches were needed !
Waynesboro High led 4-2 after singles, and then the Little Giants captured the first of the three doubles matches to close things out, 5-2.
Getting to spend some time in support of Pappy, in a word, Priceless !!
#1 and #6 seeds won their matches.

Monday night is the game labeled ” Win and your In.” We are experiencing Year 2 of the Burcham Bunch, and for the second straight year, our Cavaliers are set to play in a game that every team dreams about on the first day of practice.
The Falcons will enter the contest at 22-2 and the holders of the #1 seed. The sports term here is playing with house money 💰.
The pressure will be on the shoulders of the Falcons as they carry the burden of expectation that goes with being the top seed.
We should get accustomed to playing in this game each year because the most impressive thing about our baseball program is the fact that it is built from the ground up and the success is sustainable for the foreseeable future.
Not that baseball needs any extra motivation to win on Monday, but they can defend the honor of our Girls Soccer program and our tennis 🎾 players who all had their seasons end in the Falcons nest 🪺 this year.
Win it for yourself, win it for your coaches, win it for your parents, or, as the late AL Davis would famously say
” Just Win, Baby “

Linfield plates two runs in the top of the 6th inning, and the teams enter the top of the 7th, tied at 2-2. Virginia Wesleyan University looks to keep playing.
Linfield takes a 3-2 lead in the seventh inning, and now the Marlins must score a run or head back home to Tidewater
VWU entered the field at 50 – 0 but dropped their first two games, both by 3-2 final scores. Great season, none the less.
