Addie Greene helps deliver victory #200 for veteran Head Coach Rick Nester with a game tying triple and pilfer of home plate in a 9-8 walkoff victory over James River!

Carroll County High School Softball team trailed 8-6 and was down to their final out on Wednesday night. Laynie-Jo Leonard had just ripped a line drive that sadly found the glove of the Knights’ first baseman to make it 2 outs and nobody on base.

Natalie Burress coaxed a walk to keep the game from ending, and the Lady Cavaliers added a second base on balls to bring Greene up to the plate. The Junior delivered with a shot to the gap that tied the game at 8-8, and the play ended with Greene standing on third base.

The Knights decided to issue an intentional pass to the red hot Laiken Burnett to set up the game ending play. Holly Miller became the fourth Lady Cavalier to earn a walk πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈin the bottom of the seventh, and ball four squirted away from the catcher, allowing a hustling Greene to beat the tag on a bang bang play to send the soaked crowd home with a smile !

10:20 pm. marked the end of the seventh Three Rivers District victory of the season and gave Carroll County a split with James River. 7-5 in the district !

Greene led the 15-hit attack with four base knocks in addition to splitting the pitching duties with Emma Harman.

Both Holly Miller and Burnett picked up three hits each. Brooke Webb made the multi hit club a quartet with two base hits.

Ryan McCafferty caught the dramatic end of the game after watching the equally dramatic 1-0 victory for Adrienne McGuire and Company. I encourage folks to check βœ”οΈ out his full gamer.

Safely at GSO Airport πŸ›« with a dozen stories to write ✍️ and there’s simply no way that Kevin Burress can be anything but story #1 !!

Earlier in the day on Wednesday, my dear friend Kevin Burress lost his grandfather yet somehow still made it to Cavalier Park for our Varsity Softball game. Not only did Kevin arrive, but he managed to be himself across the four hours upstairs.

I have repeatedly said that our ability to lean on each other is the leading reason we can function in the manner that we do. The lead story for Wednesday night πŸŒ™ simply has to be the man that Kevin Burress is, and my thoughts and Prayers are with him, Myranda, and their daughters.
