Our gridiron π Cavaliers….

Callie ” Half Pint ” Harris put the biscuit in the basket π§Ί twice last night up in Dublin, her 39th and 40th of her Lady Cavalier career. When you couple it with 39 assists, our feisty senior is now on the edge of a feat that will quite possibly stand the test of time.
To tell the story correctly, we have to go way back in time to when a young Marion Harris swept Shelia Bunn of her feet. The couple married and proceeded to have three daughters, each raised with an equal balance of appreciation for education and a love for soccer.
The three young ladies learned the game at the feet of their soccer coaching Dad π¨ but don’t think that for a minute that they didn’t learn how to compete from their π©Mom.
Callie still needs one more ” helper ” to reach the 40-40 club and join a group that could absolutely be a one of a kind forever. See, while millions of young children play the sport, just not sure that we will ever see three sisters play on the same pitch and then become the first three players in a Schools history to net 40 goals and dish out 40 assist across a high school career.
If we want to push the story further into the category of one in a million, let’s have the oldest daughter return from her college playing career ( Emory and Henry ) to coach the youngest one for her final two seasons on The Hill.
Now, we know the story about not counting your chickens before they hatch, and the number of games left for the Lady Cavaliers are dwindling. The next time the team is slated to play is Wednesday over at Floyd County, and then Friday night, they are set to celebrate Senior Night. We still need an assist, and sometimes, setting up a teammate can be trickier than burying a shot in the back of the net.
The good news is that Half Pint is surrounded by other talented players on the front line, and whether it happens on Wednesday or Friday or sometime next week, remember that when it does, you will be witnessing history, one of a kind history.
It would be selfish to want it to happen on Friday night, in front of a large Senior Night crowd, and with me holding the π€
I’m hoping that in the opening minutes of the first half over in Floyd, Harris will find fellow Senior captain Savannah Swecker or Jacqueline Arellano-Torres on their way to the net. The moment is much greater than the celebration.
What does it take to score 40 goals in addition to dishing out 40 helpers ? The ability to drive the ball with precision is just the starting point. Having the ability to read the pitch and the movement of the players around you, both wearing your colors and those who are bent on stopping you.
Third, you have to have quality teammates, and the youngest Harris daughter has that in spades β οΈ. The team is on a noticeable upswing, and the future looks bright π.
The fourth and final requirement is having a coach who has the ability to make sure that you are properly motivated to give 110% every time you lace up your spikes. Another way to say it is someone who can push your buttons. Being that the three sisters have spent their entire lives striving to be the best possible version of themselves, Big Sis has had access to those buttons for quite some time now.
40 – 40 members up until this time are Adrienne Harris McGuire and Natalie Harris. Even as proud of the moment that Dad π¨ is right now, Marion was quick to point out that KK Newman would have easily qualified for a membership card in the club had she not lost a season to Covid.
It was our new sportswriter at the Carroll News, Ryan, who pointed out that I might need to update one of the three nicknames I gave the Sisters after first getting to know them years ago.
Callie will always be Half Pint, a reference to the smallest daughter on Little House on the Prarie.

Middle daughter, Natalie, will always be ” Jan ” from the Brady Bunch.
Fresh out of E & H, I asked Adrienne Harris if she would be comfortable with me calling her ” Our Future ” ?
Ryan is picking things up at a rapid pace here on The Hill. How can I tell ? He mentioned that it might be more appropriate to call Coach Harris / McGuire, ” The Present “.

Belonging to the Soccer β½οΈ 40-40 Club, for the Harris Girls π§ it’s just a πͺ family thing!

Matthew 5:14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

At 2 pm. today, our Seniors that are set to sign their letters of intent will do so in a ceremony that will take place at the School.
One of the student athletesΒ who will be signing the dotted line is Trenton Newman. This busy, busy man has had himself quite the Senior year, representing The Hill in as many ways he could find !
Now, Trenton Newman is not the only young Cavalier who will have a special experience today, not by a long shot.
The Golden Cavaliers is as big of an event as it gets, and many people will have a special day !
Have yourself a Blessed Day π

Monday night π was the rare occasion that had all three of our Lady Cavaliers playing the game that they love right here on The Hill.
Our new friend, Ryan, at the Carroll News, was at Cavalier Park as well, so we can have a little fun with our story because he will have a real game story for the Varsity and it will include the JV final.
We will go with the Three Bears π» angle in regards to our pitchers. Being that the Middle School Softball started at 4:30, we will begin with our Baby Bear… Morgan Osborne.
Miss Osborne took to the circle π΅ for the final time on the west side of The Hill. The MS team was hosting Pulaski County less than 48 hours after the two schools joined Scott Memorial in a round-robin event at Cavalier Park. Osborne earned the victory for CCMS on Saturday, and the eighth grader was up to the challenge again on Monday.
Morgan went the distance in the circle, allowing 4 hits, 0 runs, 6 K’s, and 2 walks in 6 Innings.

CCMS coasted to a 10-0 victory over Pulaski County, and the bulk of the team and Coach Cushman made their way back to Cavalier Park.
Head Coach Nick Cushman added :
” We showed up and saw π the ball well βοΈ we made all of the routine plays. “
The Middle Bear π» goes by the name of Ava Beamer, a freshman who took the ball from Head Coach Terry Warf and simply took care of business.
Beamer went the full five innings, striking out nine while only walking one Maroon Tide player along the way. Galax did scratch out ine run in the top of the second inning, but Carroll County answered with a ten spot in the bottom of the frame to end any doubts as to the outcome.
Warf saw π all nine spots in the batting order touch home plate against Galax, led by Ashlynn Smith and Mylie Crook. Both touched home plate three times and drove in a run πββοΈeach despite only picking up one base hit between them.
Smith recorded an extremely rare hat π Trick by reaching first base after being hit by a pitch three straight at bats.

Addie Greene, enjoying her junior year, took the ball from Varsity Head Coach Rick Nester and completed the Trifecta by going seven innings against our neighbors from the west.

While Beamer received her backing without the benefit of big swings, Greene watched π as her teammates compiled 18 hits while she was recording five strikeouts. Greene finished up by retiring eight of the final nine batters the righty faced.
Bayleigh Allen followed an RBI double by Greene in the bottom of the 1st inning with a rocket π shot over the fence in left center to make the score 3-0, and the Lady Cavaliers were off and running.
Brooke Webb had herself a day, picking up an RBI in consecutive at bats, and then Kyra Moser slid into the spot and added her first varsity base hit and RBI. Madison Coleman picked up her first four hit games, which included three RBI and three runs scored.
Allen, who goes by ” Little Debbie,” added to her home run by single handling, retiring the Maroon Tide in the top of the fourth inning.
From Head Coach Rick Nester :
” Just going to give you some info on tonightβs game. I thought the girls followed the game plan very well. We were going to be aggressive on the basis and Bunting the ball we were trying we were gonna try to keep pressure on Galax early in the game and I thought the girls executed that very well to come in with good approaches at the plate. Many hard hit balls throughout the night brick Webb extra base hit Bayleigh Allen with her home run defensively Addie Green pitched a great game defense played well behind her had a few mistakes but overall, I thought they did a very good job.”
When you total it all up, it’s the Lady Cavaliers finished the night up 41-6…

Osborne, Beamer & Greene – our 3 Bears π»…
