Our Junior Varsity Girls 👧 Soccer ⚽️ had a busy / fun night 🌙 down in Abingdon !

JV went to Abingdon today. We played in a 7v7 tournament. 20-minute games; running clock.

It honestly was just what my little team needed to get us back on our feet after canceling two games due to injuries.

We had 12 healthy girls tonight. Sherlyn and Sophira are definitely on the healthier side and should return to practice tomorrow.

This was a good opportunity to get girls playing time in spots they wanted to try. It also gave me some wiggle room to figure out what is working and what isn’t.

First Game- vs. Virginia High School
We won 3-0. Our first goal came from a beautiful ball up the field from Aayliah to Essined. Our second goal was by Dezirae; off of a great corner ball by Essined. Our final goal was by Essined.

Second Game vs. Madison High School
We lost 0-1. I pulled Chloe out of the goal and let Kaebry have some fun!! She did an amazing job. Kaebry had some great saves, and I’m super proud of the 20 minutes she gave. We had some excellent shots but couldn’t finish

Third Game- vs. Abingdon High School
We won 1-0. We played Abingdon out first game of the season; left with a 0-0 tie. I put Essined back in the goal; she gave some excellent minutes and also had several good saves. Aayliah had a beautiful corner, and Chloe finished it for us!

Fourth Game- vs. Gate City High School
We tied 0-0. We played a pretty decent Gate City team. I thought we were very evenly matched with them. I was super proud of our efforts on offense and defense.

The girls worked hard tonight. I’m super pleased and proud to be their coach.

We are taking it easy the rest of the week! Next games are…
Monday- 11th- at Radford
Tuesday – 19th- at Martinsville
Wednesday- 20th vs. James River

Thank you Coach !

Varsity Girls 👧 Soccer earns a road draw at Pulaski County, 2-2 on Monday night 🌙

Callie ” Half Pint ” Harris put the biscuit in the basket 🧺 from downtown late in the opening 40 minutes, and Alexis Sheffey made it stand up ! Still 40 minutes to play at Pulaski County.

More 2 Follow…..

2nd goal, and it was once again Half Pint, this time from 25!!!!

Cougars trim the deficit to 2-1 with 21 minutes left to play.

8:29 pm – Tied 2-2 [Final ]

Thoughts from our Head Coach Adrienne Harris McGuire :

” Varsity had a hard fought 2-2 tie. It was a very physical 80 minutes of soccer. The first goal came off of Alisia Torres Lopez running onto a beautiful ball over top of Pulaski’s defense. She was then taken out from behind by a Pulaski defender and by their goalkeeper. We got a free kick from around 25 yards out, and Callie Harris buried it into the back of the net well over top of the keeper’s head. Then, the girls held strong to finish the half to keep it 1-0. During the second half, around 15 minutes into the half.

Bibiana Rojas Bautista was driving down the sideline and was taken out by the Pulaski defender. Callie stepped up again and shot it far post beating the keeper over the top to make it 2-0. Then Pulaski responded, scoring one to make it 2-1. Then, with around 10 minutes left, Pulaski was given a questionable penalty kick that ended up tying the game. Overall, it was a very hard fought battle both ways.

We now look to playing @Floyd on Wednesday, and then we will be back home on Friday for Senior Night against Martinsville.”
