Head Coach Rick Nester has been leading the Lady Cavaliers for just over a decade now, and the veteran Skipper experienced something incredibly rare on Thursday night – hosting a team on a 15 game winning streak. Chilhowie (17-2)Β pushed their streak out to 16 by holding off Carroll County 6-1.
Mother Nature didn’t do out Lady Cavaliers any favors as the thermometer read 49Β° with a stiff breeze pushing the number considerably lower.
Ben Coleman started the evening off by throwing our Ceremonial First Pitch to his daughter, Madison. Gabby ( Mom) was there for the moment as well, and then it was time to PLAY BALL !

Emma Harman went the distance for Carroll County, and the Senior pitched well enough to defeat most teams, but unfortunately, the Warriors are not most teams.
Madi Preston gave the visitors plenty of breathing room in the top of the fourth inning, slugging a 3 – run home run into the trees π³ behind the left field fence. The big fly doubled the 3-0 deficit into a 6-0 hole. After the home run, Harman settled in to retire 11 of the final 12 batters.
Carroll County scratched out one run in the bottom of the fourth inning after Laiken Burnett led off the frame with a single. After back to back fielders choice plays and a walk to Harman, Brooke Webb delivered a RBI single.
The Harman walk was one of five on the night, and combined with the five base hits, CCHS had ample opportunity to close the gap even further as six players reached scoring position. Chilhowie made every play they needed to and fired the ball around the diamond π with a level of confidence that one doesn’t see at the high school level.
Bayleigh Allen led off the bottom of the third inning with a rocket π that landed the Senior a double, the lone extra base hit for the home team. Allen advanced to third base on a Holly Miller ground out, but Kylee Dancy closed out the inning by retiring Addie Greene in a ground out.
Greene and Miller rounded out the base hits for CCHS. The team will get right back at it Friday night versus Radford after the Junior Varsity hosts Martinsville.
Miss Harman and family will have the honor of the Senior spotlight on Friday !
