It’s Sunday night π and Monday promises to be two things – Busy and Wet

The yellow sheet of paper at the top is the Radford Bobcats Junior Varsity Soccer β½οΈ roster. The last 20+ minutes has been invested into a soccer match that I’m not even sure that I will be announcing.
Why does it matter so much ? That’s an easy answer, Carroll County High School needs money π° and our easiest way to collect more from outside of our own pockets is to make The Hill a preferred destination for visiting fans.
Β Having spent just shy of 50 years now holding a microphone π€, the first thing I would tell someone about announcing is PLEASE make the time to read the roster of the visiting team with their head coach. It takes less than five minutes, and trust me, it should be mandatory.
We need visiting fans to drive to our games, buy a ticket π, eat at our restaurants, and maybe even get gas β½οΈ at our pumps. The easiest marketing step in that direction is creating an atmosphere that allows visiting fans to feel welcome, and it begins with correctly pronouncing their names when we open the match / game.
The part about not knowing what there will be to call tomorrow night is the weather forecast, and as we know that the different playing services react just as differently. For example , tennis πΎ courts and rain π§ don’t mix at all. Softball can take some water π§ and normally, soccer has been played in a downpour.
The key word there is normally because everyone on campus is now in graduation mode, and our soccer pitch is where that ceremony will take place, so there’s that to consider.
Factor in that Jeremy Puckett and our Cavaliers are having a great season βοΈ tomorrow night is Youth Night at Tommy Thompson Field. I would list it as the second most important night of the year with only Senior Night landing in front of it.
Corey Williams is the KEY π to our soccer future, that I’m sure of. Tomorrow night needs to be as precise as possible so that the young ones and their families will go home afterward dreaming about how special it will be to play for Forrest Johnson and Adrienne Harris McGuire.

Take five minutes twice a night to add the level of professionalism that will make people want to come back for more. Visiting fans = $$$$$, and if that’s not enough, those kids belong to parents too.
Maybe it will be Varsity Softball to announce or a π¦ Soccer doubleheader or if Mother Nature will make Monday night a mute point. The one thing that makes life easier is that if we play Softball, it will be Corey Williams on the microphone π€. Corey Williams also understands that tomorrow night is important as can be because he knows how hard he and his troops have worked this season !
