Welcome πŸ™ to 2sday, April 21st, where we have Track & Field to cheer on βž•οΈ we finish up competing with the Bulldogs of Martinsville !

Morning πŸŒ„ Brew

****Varsity Softball does not have a game today as M’Ville is only playing games at the Junior Varsity level this season.

Rare day where there will be no game action on The Hill.

Floyd County edged Carroll County Middle School 10-9 in a game that had a little bit of everything at Cavalier Park on Monday night πŸŒ™

The Hill – The final line score will show that the Lady Buffaloes πŸƒ edged our Lady Cavaliers 10-9 Monday night, but the fans from both sides headed home knowing that they witnessed a little bit of this and a little bit of that in the two hour contest.

Zaire Cushman was the first Lady Cavalier to flash the leather when the centerfielder made a shoe string grab in the top of the first inning to keep the game scoreless.

Laken Lintecum looked to drive in the games first run when she sent a line shot down the third base line. Unfortunately, it found the glove of the third baseman who quickly doubled off Briley McGhee to end the threat.

Floyd County carried a 1-0 lead into the top of the third inning, and by the time the third out was recorded, the lead was 6-0 in favor of the visitors.

Rally #1 happened in the bottom of the frame as CCMS matched the Buffaloes πŸƒ five spot with one of their own.

Sadie Mabry, McGhee, Peyton Burcham, Jenna Bowman, and Cushman each touched home plate during the uprising. Mahala Holderfield finished up the rally with a 2-run single.

Floyd County pushed the lead out to 8-5 with two runs πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ in the top of the fourth inning, but once again, the fiesty Lady Cavaliers answered back ! Morgan Osborne scored the first run, and Mabry, McGhee, and Lintecum loaded the bases for Cheyenne Bates. Bates went shopping πŸ› at the gap, and by the time the play ended, Carroll County led 9-8 with Bates standing on third base.

Floyd County managed to end the inning with the score still 9-8, and with time becoming a factor, the fifth inning would be the final frame.

FCMSΒ  plated two runs to regain the lead heading into the bottom of the fifth inning. The damage would have been greater, but McGhee made a circus πŸŽͺ catch of a rocket πŸš€ hit to left field to lead off the inning.

Carroll County did not go gently into the night as they loaded the bases but fell just short in scoring the tying run.

This concluded the two game series for the youngest of our three softball teams at our Cavalier Park. Hopefully, each of the players enjoyed their stay and will continue to grow in the hopes of one day calling Cavalier Park their second 🏑.

Thank You to Kevin Burress for all of his assistance across the two games !

Adrienne Harris McGuire takes us inside the ropes as our Girls πŸ‘§ Soccer ⚽️ program rolls to another victory, 5-0 at Martinsville!

From our Coach :

Another great game for the varsity Lady Cavs!! All 21 players saw action during our game and many at different positions that they have never played before. The scoring started a little under 3 minutes in with a quick 1-2 pass combination between Callie Harris and Savannah Swecker right at the top of the box. It was a very nice and quick combo between the two with Callie finishing it on goal. Around 5-10 minutes later Savannah was aggressive at the top of the box and won Martinsville’s goal kick. She took the shot but it got deflected towards the end line. Savannah beat the keeper to it and did a quick pull back and then shot it far post into the side netting to make it 2-0.

With around 8 minutes left in the first half Alison Hall assisted Callie at the top of the box to make it 3-0. With seconds left in the first half Callie dribbled to the end line and then beat a few defenders to squeeze it into the near post to make it 4-0. All 21 players saw playing time in the first half. There were many shot attempts put on frame with lots of them barely missing or taken from the goalie making a nice save.
In the second half, the girls started off strong, again putting many shots on goal. We really moved a lot of players around to different positions during the 2nd half.

We were able to move Jackie Arellano-Torres from center back up into the midfield. She had multiple really good looks towards the goal. Melissa Mize stepped up as the other center back along with Genesis Harmon. Elizabeth Stevens and Kristen Dalton also played very strong minutes for us at the fullback positions on our defense. With around 15 minutes left in the game, Alexis Sheffey was able to come out of the goal and move up to a forward position. Within about 2-3 minutes of being up top, Alexis buried one into the back of the net from a pass from Callie.

Β Β Β Β  This was very exciting because one thing Alexis has wanted to do is to play in the field at some point her senior year. She finally got that opportunity and was able to capitalize it by scoring her first ever goal. Overall, it was a great team victory with all 20 players getting a good amount of minutes. Now we move on to get ready for James River on Friday!

Carroll County High School 🏫 Soccer ⚽️ report for Monday night against Martinsville shows 4 games,  18 goals being scored, three victories, and two hat πŸ‘’ tricks βž•οΈ for the Cavaliers!

Boys Varsity won 2-0

Girls Varsity won 5-0

JV Boys won 7 – 1

JV Girls fell 3-0

Varsity Girls πŸ‘§

The format was a little different than the norm Monday night as both Junior Varsity teams played on The Hill, and the older Cavaliers loaded up the bus 🚌 for the ride to the Dawg Pound.

Brittany Kinney and the JV Girls finally returned to action 🎬 at Tommy Thompson Field after not playing versus Glenvar, Floyd County, and George Wythe due to them all being Varsity only.

The offense was a little rusty, but the defense fought from start to finish across the sixty minutes. Getting back into the swing of things will certainly help the young team move forward !

Jeremy Puckett and his squad took the pitch at Tommy Thompson Field next. The offensive explosion lit up the scoreboard, much to the delight of the home crowd. Carroll County led 5-0 at the break and finished up with a 7-1 victory over the Bulldogs.

Two of the seven scores were own goals so we will focus on the other five. Jovanni Hernandez put the biscuit in the basket 🧺 from long range, connecting from 35 yards !

Christian Solis – Ruiz added a goal, and the Star 🌟 of the Match was young Joni Rosales. Scoring a HAT πŸ‘’ TRICK wasn’t enough as Rosales added a helper to boot !

Congratulations 🎊 to Rosales and his family !

Speaking πŸ”Š of a HAT πŸ‘’ TRICK  βž•οΈ a helper, Callie ” Half Pint ” Harris matched the effort in the Girls match.  For those of you counting at home, that is to Hats inside of the past two weeks for the youngest of the Harris girls !

Savannah ” The Artist 🎨 ” Swecker added an unassisted goal and sure handed keeper Alexis Sheffey added the final tally with the assist going to Harris.

Forrest Johnson and our Varsity Boys played smothering defense and received enough offense to win 2 – 0. The goals went to Hez Mejia and Judah Collins with the back line and keeper, making sure that two goals were enough.

Both Boys πŸ‘¦ teams will return to action 🎬 on Friday evening on The Hill when James River High School makes the drive down I-81. The Girls πŸ‘§ Soccer teams will return the favor, playing at the Knights pitch.
