Bats were hot tonight in Galax as the JV Lady Cavs won 22-3. All players got in on the action one way or another. Great effort by all!
Here are some highlights: Molly Montgomery had 4 hits and 2 RBIs. Kyra Moser had 3 hits. Mylie Crook had 2 hits and 2 RBIs. Kiley Lineberry had 3 hits and 2 RBIs. Ava Beamer had 5 hits and 4 RBIs. Aspen Aldred had 4 hits and 4 RBIs.
Ava Beamer pitched a 5 inning complete game with 6 strikeouts!
Galax, Virginia – Carroll County raced out to an early 5-0 lead, survived a Maroon Tide rally, and then finished strong in a 14-8 non-district victory over Galax on Thursday night.
The Lady Cavaliers pounded out 17 hits and took advantage of 11 Galax fielding errors to capture the first half of the home and home series against our neighbors to the West.
The top four spots in Coach Rick Nester’s lineup did the heavy lifting, collecting 13 of the base hits and scoring 11 of the runs. Addie Greene led the attack, reaching base in all five at bats. The Junior finished up with four base hits and three RBI in addition to scoring two runs.
Holly Miller, Raylee Goins, and Natalie Burress each finished the contest with three base hits. Goins scored four times and drove in three Cavaliers.
Galax did not go away quietly after falling behind by five runs early. The home team stormed back throughout the middle innings and finally tied the game at 8-8 in the bottom of the sixth inning.
The combination of Carroll County hitting the ball hard all night and shaky glove work by the home team eventually allowed the Lady Cavaliers to post a comfortable 14 – 8 victory. Galax will travel to The Hill on May 4th in hopes of earning a split in the season series.
Carroll County JV also defeated their counterparts, winning by a score of 22-3.
Both teams are set to play at Cavalier Park on Tuesday night as Patrick County comes to The Hill. It has been a hot minute since both Rick Nester and Terry Warf shared the diamond ๐.
Thank You to Tammy Quesenberry, Donna Nester, Velvet Leonard and Rick Nester for keeping us in the know !
The Hokie team is coached by Chris Carter, and the roster is full of 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders.
Twelve players dot the roster with the makeup โ๏ธ between boys (7) and girls (5). One of the five girls ๐ง is one of our nine grandchildren, Maddie.
The group plays in two different seasons of the year, so this is the seventh time that Chris has coached this particular group of youngsters.
8 years old and in the 3rd grade
Math ๐งฎ is her favorite subject in school and recently landed on the AB Honor Roll. Proud moment recently when Maddie had an essay published with the subject being Martin Luther King and kindness.
The drive from Luray to Beckley will be 3 & 1/2 hours and will begin shortly after the end of the second 20 minute half..
The we love โค๏ธ Maddie Fan Club will include her mother ๐ฉ Christina, Great Uncle Wayne, grandfather, and two sisters, Ana(12) and Melody (11). I guess we like her head coach as well!
Tonight is the first match of the spring season, and we are excited about being in attendance !
Ana is home ๐ก from school ๐ซ and ready to cheer on Maddie ! Seven grader, so the game will be taking place at her school ๐ซMelody
Meanwhile, over in Beckley, our Golden Bears ๐ป Baseball team got off to a rather rough start against Midway University.

Last night ๐ was a great deal of fun, and then it was straight to the car ๐ for the drive up to New Market. Park the car, create five stories, rest, and restart with the morning brew.
This morning, I started with a phone call to the office of Wes Adcock. Coach Adcock is the skipper of the New River Community College baseball team, and he currently is mentoring three former Carroll County High School graduates ๐.
The next to the last stop on this loop is planned for Calfee Park in Pulaski, Virginia, as the Muskies are set to host the club team from UNC – Greensboro in a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon.
Lance Burnett, Cody Reece, and Britt Berrier all lace them up for NRCC, and the team has landed in the national polls this season.
Being that I am responsible for the setting at a college baseball game at West Virginia Tech University, I understand that everyone is busy the closer it gets to first pitch, so the reason for the call ๐ was to ask Coach what time would I need to stop by to capture a photo ๐ธ of the four of them, without disturbing their routines ?
The answer is 11:00 am on Sunday !
These three young men and our site have different lengths of relationships. Burnett is finishing up his sophomore season and currently holds a number of school records. He also gladly pitched in a few years ago when I needed a boy scout to walk a little old Grandma ๐ต across the street for a Volleyball ๐ promo.
Cody Reece is a young man ๐จ who I was fortunate enough to experience his growing up from a somewhat awkward freshman into the man he is today. I smiled last night when I announced that it was his little brother who was swinging the bat in extra innings. Little Reece ( Connor) put the ball in play that plated Chanson Rakes and Blake Reed with what proved to be the winning runs. Cody loves life, and it shows in his disposition!
Britt Berrier is someone who I didn’t have the pleasure of meeting until his senior year of high school. His final season was the first one for our Skipper, Casey Burcham. The stick out memory was taking some photos with him on a day he received an award that we were involved in. The young man ๐จ is still the only resident of Carroll County that has a OneofUs.Care hat ๐ in his possession !
I am very proud of these three young men and the manner in which they represent their families and the Hill !
I’m looking forward to Sunday morning ๐ as I’m not sure how many times that three Carroll County graduates have competed on the same collegiate team.
A great deal of life has to happen between now and then, but I will do my best to capture the moment !
