Maleah, Marion Harris, and Adrienne Harris McGuire. Two shiny examples of what the combination of a CCHS and E & H education will get you !
Maleah Neely returned to The Hill yesterday afternoon as a member of the coaching staff of the Galax Middle School π« Soccer team.
Neely starred on four straight Cundy Edwards led Carroll County High School Volleyball π teams before taking her love for the game over to Emory and Henry.
To give you an idea π‘ of just how much game this graduate π of CCHS has, here is the capsule from E & H.
My favorite part of her is that she has a heart of gold !
Neely has remained a part of CCHS volleyball for roughly 20 years now, and while her day job requires her to work on the west end, this outstanding young lady will always be part of The Hill !
Good luck with the rest of the season, and please π keep being who you are !
Day 2 of the Cavalier – Buffaloes π showdown begins later today. Soccer went 2-1 yesterday with the JV Girls not having an opponent.
Today, it will be JV Softball, which will be idle as the neighboring counties face off.
West Virginia Tech University will play its final scheduled mid-week game today as we head over to D & E for a doubleheader. A sweep of the games will give the Golden Bears π» a winning record in non-conference games as we currently sit at 9-10 in that category.
Girls π§ Soccer continues a very busy stretch of three matches in four days, heading up to George Wythe. Sadly for Brittany Kinney, her JV squad will be idle for the third straight time. But the good news is that they will return to action π¬ on Thursday afternoon.
Travis Osborne and his Bible Verse of the Day :
Hebrews 13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
Howard Mayo and his Motovational Nugget for the Day;
It’s rather difficult to try and offer support to all 12 spring coaches when you still have on you have yet to meet. Yesterday, with an assist from Mr DeHaven, I was able to introduce myself to our latest Cavalier to return to The Hill, looking to give back to the community !
Our four soccer β½οΈ coaches are Forrest Johnson and Jeremy Puckett on the boys’ side βοΈ Adrienne Harris McGuire and Brittany Kinney on the girls’ side.
Our four diamond π coaches are Casey Burcham and Adam Nester for baseball βΎοΈ βοΈ Rick Nester and Terry Warf for softball.
Our two track and field leaders are Shawn Montgomery and Jon Delp.
Both of our tennis πΎ coaches are new this season, and both look to build a foundation in their sport. Both Coach Hunter and Coach McGuire appear to be focused and ready for the task at hand.
The goal here is to provide a platform that allows coaches to get the word out about their program, and being that nobody is under any obligation to participate, there will be some discrepancy in the amount of coverage that each sport receives.
While tennis πΎ doesn’t need someone to announce their sport, the other 10 do. The goal there is to help out as much as possible in hopes that none of our Cavaliers play in silence π.
This week began with Girls Varsity Soccer β½οΈ being called, and today, we move back across the Boulevard to host Varsity only Softball with the added bonus being we will celebrate the playing career of Senior Bayleigh Allen and her Mom, Debbie Odum before the game.
Wednesday night, we stay at Cavalier Park as we try once again to announce a Middle School Softball game ! Unfortunately, the last time we were set to do it, the game was rescheduled.
Thursday night π will be a multi-taskingΒ kinda thing as it will begin with Brooke Webb being in the spotlight for Varsity Softball and then back across US-58 Business for the second half of the Girls Soccer doubleheader vs Radford.
Friday Night was set to be Varsity Softball versus Radford, but that one has been moved back until May 11th.
Now Friday and Saturday should be about West Virginia Tech University Baseball, and we complete the week with Vickey Ritchie and Special Olympics Basketball π on Sunday afternoon.
We have just over four weeks to maintain the current pace, but the WVU-T Tech season ends next weekend, which will lighten the load considerably.
We have 12 head coaches and a slew of assistant coaches, and don’t forget about our hard working Middle School coaches.
The goal is to treat each one of them equally in regard to both respect and coverage. Is it a pipe dream ? Sure, but it’s one that I’m willing to chase for another month or so.
Wednesday, April 22nd, is a day set aside to watch the Nester Nine play a home game, and the following day, New River Community College is playing up at Pulaski at 1pm. Three former Cavaliers are fixtures on that team that is ranked in the polls.
Being that it is springtime, Mother Nature gets the final say on everything.
It was a treat to meet Angela Hunter yesterday afternoon, and I hope that we hear more from her down the road.
Jeremy Puckett and our Junior Varsity Cavaliers opened the night in Floyd County with a 3-0 victory over the Buffaloes π ! The victory was the third of the season for the younger Cavaliers.
In the nightcap, Floyd County returned the favor and by the same score of 3-0.
Both teams are set to remain away from Tommy Thompson Field in their next match as they are slated to play in the Bobcats den at Radford on Thursday night.
