Carroll County Special Olympics is branching out from basketball 🏀 to Track 👣 and Field this Saturday ! The proof is in the pictures…

From Coach Vickey Ritchie :

CCSO will be sending a small group of athletes to participate in Area 9 Track and Field Spring Games on Sat April 18, and several of them were at the CCHS track this afternoon to get times and distances.

Looking forward to seeing 👀 how everyone does !

In Laurel Fork, we all answer to Kris Richardson, so we had to wait for Coach Nester to hop off Kris’s mower to get in our Five Good Minutes ⏰️ with our Coach! Follow up on the 20-2 victory

It was a good run 🏃‍♂️ on the treadmill, but we stopped ✋️to get this in..

Four topics of interest :

Ava Beamer – our youngest Lady Cavalier, made her very first appearance at the plate 🍽 as a pinch hitter for Brooke Webb. Webb continued to play left field, but Beamer stepped into the batters box 📦 for her first two plate appearances on Varsity.

Showing no fear, Beamer stroked a single and later coaxed a base on balls. Batting average of 1.000 and on base % of the same !

Welcome 🙏 to the Show, young Lady !

Fun Fact #2 – Madison Coleman had a 👻 spooky moment  in right field when the Senior appeared to lose a line drive 🚗 in the lights. Fortunately, for all involved the ball dropped harmlessly to the ground, and Gabby’s Kiddo was unharmed!

Fun Fact #3 – the old saying that sometimes you are the windshield and others you are the bug 🐛 comes to mind when Coach described the two at bats for Laynie-Jo Leonard. On the first one, Leonard sent a rocket 🚀 towards the fence, but it happened to find an outfield glove.

The next time up, the ball hit back, and Leonard was awarded first base on the HBP.

Fun Fact #4 – ” Addie was in complete control last night in regards to the count. The difference between them having to guess at what is coming at them versus just sitting on a fastball is hard to explain. She did a great job getting ahead in the count, start to finish !

Rick has grass to mow, and the treadmill is waiting. But as the late, great Paul Harvey would say – ” Now you know the rest of the story “

Apologies for the longer than normal read, but in hopes of reaching others, here’s a walk 🚶‍♂️through on how a story gets created from a game. I didn’t see. Varsity Softball rolls to a much needed breather, 20-2 over Glenvar Tuesday night 🌙

Line score

No matter what I try, I haven’t mastered being in more than one place on any given night, but with the right amount of assistance and trust, a solid story can still be written !

Our Junior Varsity Lady Cavaliers also played at Glenvar High last night 🌙 and I would love to create them a story as well because we see 👀 everything as equal.

Let’s walk through the process from start to finish with the first thing being saying Thank You to everyone who helped me along the way.

Here’s the batting order from last night : Leading off, Donna Nester (Team Mom & Coaches wife). Batting second, Tammy Quesenberry (Team Grandmother 👵, Head Cheerleader). Next up, Velvet Leonard (loving mother 👩), Travis Leath (Assistant Coach), and finally, Rick Nester (Head Coach).

Glenvar – Carroll County High School Softball team had seen enough opposing teams claim a victory by having one big inning and Tuesday night they had one of their own in a 20-2 Three Rivers District contest at Glenvar.

Second photo 📸 from Velvet. Laiken Burnett at the plate 🍽

By the time the dust had settled in the top of the second inning, the Lady Cavaliers bad batted around twice over. I’m not sure if 15 runs in an inning would be a new school record or not, but one would think it would rank pretty high on the list.

Coach Rick Nester spent the off-season working on having his players be more aggressive at the platplate and against the Highlanders, they attacked like ants 🐜 at a church ⛪️ picnic would an abandoned piece of cake 🎂.

Velvet – post game with the 20 on the scoreboard in the background !

A total of five players recorded multiple hits ( because I’m not limited on space, I will list all five), including Holly Miller, Addie Greene, Natalie Burress, Emma Harman, and Brooke Webb.

Laiken Burnett was doing an impersonation of Aerosmith in her version of Walk 🚶‍♀️ This Way. The Senior added three free passes to her base hit, finishing up with an on-base % of 1,000.

Raylee Goins followed suit with one hit and two walks to join Burnett in the Three runs scored club. Greene was the third Lady Cav to find her way to home plate on the night 🌙.

Miller continues to cause problems from the leadoff spot in the lineup by going 2 of 3 with a walk, four driven in, and two runs scored. The team completed the game without a single strike out at the plate. Madison Coleman checked multiple boxes 📦 with a hit, RBI, and two runs scored.

Defense and pitching also excelled as Carroll County finished the five innings without a single misque. Greene worked 💪 from the circle 🔵 and know that it’s easier to do so when you have confidence in the gloves behind you.

Webb, Burress, and Bayleigh Allen combined to give the Cavaliers a trio of extra base hits as each player stroked a double during the contest.

Laynie-Jo Leonard took over at third base for Allen, and Ava Beamer did the same out in left field in relief of Webb. All 11 players saw action 🎬 in the victory !

The team can now return to the regularly scheduled 📅 Spring Break as they are off until next Tuesday night when Floyd County is scheduled to visit The Hill.

Some more notes 📝 – the story was set up by Donna and Tammy, keeping me in the know as it played out. Velvet sent me the exact number of pics I needed, and Travis provided me the stats.

The amount of trust that Coach and I have built up across six years allows me to write ✍️ the story, and then he can add anything that I might have missed.

The focus is always on the team first, and if something goes wrong, the misque can be acknowledged without assigning fault. Win 🏆 as a team or lose as a team, at the end of the day, it’s about the Team
