Head Coach Adrienne Harris McGuire watched anxiously as her younger Sister Callie Harris lined up to take a penalty kick with 10:00 remaining in the match and the score knotted 1-1.
” Half Pint ” Harris allowed her coach and Big Sis to breathe a sigh of relief by burying the PK, and the Lady Cavaliers finished up the 2-1 victory over neighboring Galax. While there isn’t an assist attached to a PK, one must tip the cap to fellow Senior, Savannah Swecker.
Swecker was the one that took the hit in the box, setting up the game deciding free kick.
The remaining 10 minutes were a showdown between keepers Alexis Sheffey and Galax’s Natalia Reyes Pineda. Both net minders were at the top of the game, especially when you factor in the 20-minute down pour at the start of the second 40:00.

Swecker factored into the scoring column at 9:45 of the first half when she put the biscuit in the basket π§Ί after a perfect feed by Yeili Urbina on a Carroll County Cavalier Corner.
Sheffey and her backline defense made sure that the 1-0 lead stood up until halftime. Shortly after the break, the skies opened up, and that sent the crowd scurrying for cover. But the two teams had no choice but to play through the conditions.
Shortly after the rain let up, Carroll County doubled up the lead only to have the officials rule the Lady Cavaliers offsides on the play.
CCHS continued to pound shots in the direction of the net, but Pineda was up to the challenge. Both Harris and Swecker were online, as was Bibiana Rojas Bautista, with her effort.
At the 12:00 minute mark, Keiry Pena Turcios took advantage of a small window πͺ in front of the net, tying the match at 1-1.

The next two minutes were intense, to say the least, right up until Harris scored her 38th career goal, and then Sheffey made sure the soaked crowd went home happy !
