Our soccer ⚽️ programs had an interesting night on The Pitch, and we simply have to lead off with Forrest Johnson and his tribute to the late Gustavo Munoz

The well written letter created by Forrest, and I added a bit here and there in hopes that the message could ring with sincerity for the Family.

The ceremony took place just before 7:00 pm, and it was wonderful to see so many family members in attendance for the moment. Let’s add a nod to the folks from Patrick County as they were both respectful and patient. I hope that the message was soothing to those it was intended for, and I considered it an honor to be the one trying to have my voice reflect what this young man meant to Coach Johnson and his program.

Prior to the ceremony, Jeremy Puckett and his JV Cavaliers pitched a 2-0 shutout with the goals belonging to Alex Esquivel and Christian Solis-Ruiz.

Congratulations to Coach Puckett and his crew !

The Boys πŸ‘¦ Varsity game was first interrupted by rain at 7:11 and then halted by the first sight of lightning 🌩 seven minutes later. Roughly 24 minutes of game time was played, and Carroll County was leading 1-0 at the time.

The scoring play was started by Evan Conner with a direct kick that found Christian Cruz, who then fed the ball to Aiden Puckett. The Junior then put the biscuit in the basket 🧺 and my booth partner for the night, Hez Mejia, nailed the call on the goal.

After almost an hour, the decision was made to postpone the game until tomorrow night with a restart time to be determined.

The Varsity Girls contest over at Patrick County High School stopped βœ‹οΈ in a similar fashion with the teams still tied, Nil – Nil. The decision on when to resume the match is still to be determined.

That leaves us Brittany Kinney and our Girls JV. Their match with the Cougars was played prior to the varsity match, and once we know that result, we will circle πŸ”΅ back to add it here.

Another night πŸŒ™ with JV Softball at Cavalier Park and first things first, thank you to Linda, Kevin Lineberry, and JJ Montgomery for taking the wheel πŸ›ž at 6:30 pm! Chilhowie wins 15 – 8, but know that our Lady Cavaliersi have plenty of spunk !!

Chilhowie HS ….. 320 323 2 – 15

Carroll County … 005 021 0 – 8

First up – getting to visit with the group from our Future Farmers of America was an absolute pleasure ! They were running our Concession stand tonight, and for that, we are grateful πŸ™.

Next , Angel Campbell won our Foul Ball contest with ticket 🎟 number 13. When I headed over for the ceremony at the Soccer field, I asked my wife to stay behind and make sure that part was handled correctly. Quick instructions on the fly were to ask the desired shirt πŸ‘• size, try and grab a name, and photo.

Lin crushed that part, βž–οΈ getting her name. We shared a laugh when we realized that Angel was wearing her school ID. So, thank you for that.

This was the ceremony to celebrate the life of the late Gustavo Munoz that required me to depart early.

Batting third – due to lightning 🌩 being in the area during pre-game, our Lady Cavaliers were forced upstairs for a spell. This presented an opportunity for a handful of live interviews with three of the young ladies that proved to be a treat for everyone involved. Ava, Kylie, and Miss Cochran, who described her mother very elegantly.

Hitting clean up – The Lady Cavaliers trailed 5-0 headed into the bottom of the 3rd, but the first display of Spunk took place. Millie Parker led off with an infield single, and Cochran moved her to second with a base hit. Bree Campbell and Molly Montgomery both reached on misques, and then Kyra Moser drilled a double ( aided by her little sister announcing her name ) . All five of those Lady Cavaliers came around to score, and we headed to the fourth inning knotted up at 5-5. Mylie Crook and Maeli Parker both added RBI ground outs.

Over the next two innings, the Warriors plated their next five runs to take a 10-5 lead, but once again, the spunky Cavs battled back.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, CCHS added two runs back as Moser scored after being hit by a pitch.  Crook beat out an infield single and touched home plate when Aspen Aldred singled.

At the top of the sixth inning is when the back end of the 90 minutes expired and Mr DeHaven wisked me across the Boulevard. I can tell you that the visitors outscored us 5-1 to close out the game with Campbell plating the final run.

The Warriors swung the bat as well as anyone I’ve seen so far, which put our Ava Beamer at a disadvantage in the circle. Chilhowie was incredibly disciplined at the plate from start to finish. But Beamer and Company played with plenty of heart ❀️.

In the National Basketball Association, there are players that need rest versus playing back to back nights πŸŒ™. Our kiddos played at Tazewell last night, rode a school bus 🚌 home, and then went to class this morning before returning to the Diamond πŸ’Ž to play again.

Yes, we lost the battle tonight, but know that these ladies have spunk !

Being in the press box πŸ“¦ limits my ability to take photos, so if I have a parent out there willing to share a couple, it will add Pop to the story.

Thank you, Linda, Kevin, and JJ !

7:18 pm Update :

Here at Tommy Thompson Field, we have just entered into a lightning 🌩 delay. We are in the first half of the varsity match with Carroll County leading 1-0.

Boys πŸ‘¦ JV Soccer ⚽️ defeated Patrick County, 2-0.
