Wytheville – Sam Johnson led the way for Head Coach Darian Brown and the Middle School Cavaliers by scoring a team high 13 points but the team could not overcome a balanced attack by the homestanding Scott Memorial Middle School.
SMMS scored 22 points in each of the halves and that proved to be just enough to escape with a 44-36 victory.
Five Cavaliers dented the scorebook on the night as Trenton Poe added eight points while Gibson Barr totaled seven. Grant Reed (5 points) and Caleb Hill (3 points ) rounded out the scoring for Carroll County

Carroll County (6-6) returns to the court for a third consecutive time this week when Radford comes to The Hill.
Hopefully, we can circle back and add some thoughts from Coach Brown π later today.
Β Game number six of her time as a Paladin of Ferrum University brought Alyssa Ervin as close to playing at π‘ as mathematicaly as possible. Forty miles was all that separated the High School where Ervin scored 2,000+ points and the home of the RU Highlanders.
While I was watching on my computer π₯ screen from Orlando, Florida, I wasn’t worried about capturing the action of the game itself. But to tell the story that I wanted to tell about the night π, I was going to need some help and it came in the form of Vickey Ritchie and Marion Harris !
The outcome of the game was pretty much decided after Radford raced out to a 24-4 lead early in the second quarter but that wasn’t the story that I was chasing with this one. The story here was Ervin was coming home and the community was given an opportunity for a group HUG!

Volleyball π Coach Cindy Edwards was in the house π to show her support as was Glenn Burnett and Family. Let’s not forget the Ervin family themselves, being they raised Alyssa and so willingly shared her with so many people.
Wednesday night π wasn’t about Basketball as much as it was showing appreciation for a talented young Lady that is starting down a path that will hopefully have three more years to it down in the area known as Upstate, South Carolina.
I will challenge anyone with a last name other than Ervin, that I’m the biggest fan of Miss Ervin. Being driven is a challenge and when you find others that are blessed / cursed with similar traits its a natural connection. The journey is just beginning in regards to wearing Purple and thanks to Marion and Vickey, we were able to capture π a glimpse of the evening.
From a Basketball standpoint, Ervin finished up with 7 points and now has 67 on the season after six games. Quick math shows that’s an average of 11+ points a game.
But the bigger story was how many of the announced crowd of 1,293 drove home down Highway 100 as they headed back to The Hill.
One day after a spirited effort at Patrick County, where CCMS fell just short, Coach Kris Richardson and his team earned its second victory of the season.
” Finally, I’m home before 10 pm and finally we got a victory,” said Richardson. ” Hats off to these girls for continuing to work hard. Perseverance pays off when you believe in the process and believe in each other. Great overall team win. We play tomorrow at home against Radford.”
Lynchburg – A college basketball π game has 40 minutes of regulation time and on Wednesday night Randolph College Junior Elijah Cox played just over 38 of them against Methodist University. The Wildcats picked up the hard fought victory but they needed all 40:00 to seal the deal.
Playing almost the entire contest is impressive enough but Cox β everyΒ π¦ along the way !
17 Points scored
6 of 7 from 2
8 rebounds
3 Assists
1 Steal
The team returns to action π¬ on Saturday down in Charlotte against Johnson and Wales at 1pm.
Congratulations πππ on both the Win and the strong effort πͺ
Still to follow : Boys Middle School π« Basketball, Girls Middle School Basketball and Carroll County was well represented Wednesday night at Radford University as Alyssa Ervin returned to the Area.

So much to go through on a Basketball π Marathon !!
Love π the folks in the Dedmon Center tonight!!!
The question of why would someone on vacation in Florida try to stay on top of five separate games being played around The Hill ??? Because each one of these games was important to the folks involved…..
We are all in this together β€ !
