Let’s call πŸ“ž this one : Practice what you Preach! Rough night for K Dawg but she’s still IT…

Two nights ago, the young lady, who I felt privileged to watch across four seasons at Hec Ed on the campus of the University of Washington, scored a career professional high of 43 points !

Included in that 43 was five points in the final minute, with the last two falling as the horn sounded and forced the contest into overtime. The Sparks won that night, but last night was in a word, painful.

Nine points before fouling out on a night. The team only netted 58 points, but Kelsey Plum is still my all-time favorite female athlete.

Today, she wakes up in the number two spot in the WNBA scoring race 🏁. That Wilson kid, she has game too !

It’s okay to still be proud of your favorites, even when the final outcome is less than desired !

We have today’s Motovational Nugget from Coach Mayo and a show of appreciation to the Man who sends it !

Normally, I would use a Photo πŸ“Έ of Coach to go with his Nugget, but today, it’s a picture of the dedicated young ladies who are working out back on The Hill.

Coach Mayo is a perfect example of someone who receives zippo, monetary or otherwise,Β  from sending us a Nugget every day of the work week ! Yet, he still does it anyway because, in his own words, He’s just doing his part !

We see you, Coach, and you are appreciated !

Marion Harris put this Nugget in our Mailbag, and it has to make you smile as another former Lady Cavalier is being recognized for her efforts ! We get to dust off our Saved by the Bell πŸ”” : The Cavalier College Years banner !

Congratulations to the new Mom and for being named the Coach of the Year in the Southwest District !!!

KK Newman is all grown up now and continues to make us proud here on The Hill !

If you cross paths with her Father, you will see a silly grin on his face that only comes with being a first-time Grandpa !

Thank you to the entire Newman family for representing us ❀️ in the manner you all do !

Post cards from New Bern, North Carolina… Greg Bolen as a college mascot ?!

After spending the better part of the past two days down on the Crystal Coast ( Morehead City / Beaufort / Atlantic Beach ⛱️), it’s time to shift the focus over to New Bern.

The tagline for Pepsi Cola has been ” Born in the Carolinas ” for quite some time now. It turns out that New Bern is the actual place where it was created back in the day.

You can actually visit the original shop, pictured above, and purchase a beverage in the same manner that they did in the beginning. A nod to Pappy Meade for pointing πŸ‘‰ me in that direction.

New Bern is on the water πŸ’§and has a number of elevated bridges that offer pretty views.

While it’s a great time for sports in North Carolina with the Canes hosting the Stanley Cup and the Heels in prime position out in Omaha ( don’t forget professional softball debuting in Durham), the local school is East Carolina University. ECU sits just 40 miles above New Bern, and the Pirates ☠️ nickname is in honor of Black Beard. It turns out that the notorious Pirate was from these parts.

The original nickname was ” Teachers,” and that makes me smile ! Anytime you can put teachers in a positive light is a great thing !

What would their Mascot have looked like ?

Thank you, Greg Bolen !

The Teachers would eventually lose out to the Pirates, so now we have our uplifting thought for today – teachers, don’t let anyone steal your joy, not even a Pirate !

It’s time to go exploring !
