Travis Osborne with his Bible Verse of the Day:

Psalm 17:15Β As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness.

David Broyles is doing his very Best to keep The Carroll News afloat as the home office 🏒 down in Mount Airy search for a replacement for the recently departed Allen Worrell.

David was set to retire from the Newspaper πŸ“° at the first of October. We even honored that fact back on September 13th at Cavalier Park. We are doing our very Best to help him with his Sports section until someone new takes over as the person in charge.

Can you imagine going from working for a few more days as a writer to trying hard to create a Newspaper πŸ“° ????

Me neither…

Thank You Sir !

Have yourself a Blessed Day πŸ™Œ

As our departure date of November 11th gets closer we continue with our attempts to showcase some pretty cool folks one more time over the weekend πŸ˜Ž!

Kalee Bunn, Dakota Walls and Vickey Ritchie will be in our spotlight over the next 72 hours. βž• our beloved Duke University Football 🏈🏈🏈🏈 team.

Kalee Bunn in action 🎬

Carroll County High School graduate πŸŽ“ Kalee Bunn is closing in on adding Ferrum College graduate πŸŽ“ to her list of accomplishments ! Ferrum is now down to just five home matches and Friday night at 6pm is our best opportunity to show support for a former Lady Cavalier.

Noon Saturday – favored by 1.5 against an undefeated team ?!
Saturday Night Racing 🏎

The next stop βœ‹ will allow us to catch up one more time with Carroll County High School Sophomore, Dakota Walls. Dakota is coming off a 4th place finish last week at the same track.

Sunday afternoon will be spent at Hillsville Elementary School assisting Coach Vickey Ritchie with her Special Olympics Basketball πŸ€ practice.

Should be fun, as none of these stories are Newspaper πŸ“° type stories but each of them are important to people that are important to us.

Just for Fun – will Carroll County Volleyball 🏐 qualify for the Regional tournament this season ?

Please note πŸ“ – none of this is official, just taking a look see at other teams in our Region after being asked after the match tonight….

1st clarification – these records are on Max Preps, meaning they are not guaranteed. Our record of 13-8 is a great example because it doesn’t show some of our wins …

Here are the Upper teams –

Abingdon 22-2

Christiansburg 19-0

Hidden Valley 19-5

Tunstall 13 – 4

Have to believe that these would be the Top Four…

Carroll County gets Radford’s attention early before falling in four sets as Bobcats stay perfect in Three Rivers District play.

Radford – Carroll County Volleyball coach Cindy Edwards has been around the sport way too long the recognize ” moral victories ” but if she did, her Lady Cavaliers earned one Thursday night in Radford.

The scoreboard will show that Radford improved to 10-0 in the Three Rivers District and 17-1 overall by defeating Carroll County (13-8, 4-6) 3-1 (20-25, 25-17,25-17, 25-21). But the Lady Cavaliers battled their host from start to finish, despite playing without two of their four Senior leaders.

Laiken Burnett (hand) and Corrie Delp (ankle ) were both spectators. Add in that Radford is locked in to advancing to the State Championship in Salem next month and you have a perfect recipe for a 3 set sweep.

The opening set was tied at 18-18 when Faith Nicholson went to the service line and the Junior sparked a 7-2 closeout with an Ace and a winner amongst her six point stay. Callie Harris led the team in kills as the Senior finished seven of the 25 points. Brooke Webb added three Kills in the 25-20 winner while Raylee Goins mixed in 2 kills, a block and a service winner for the Lady Cavaliers.

Radford responded in a big way by scoring the first seven points of the second set. The lead stood at 15-6 when CCHS started to climb back into the set, beginning with a Webb kill. Five different players landed at least one kill and suddenly the deficit was just 18-15. This time the 7-2 close out went in the favor of the Bobcats.

Maddie Hyatt stepped up in the third set after Radford opened 4-0. The Junior finished a kill and added two points from the service line to change the momentum. Goins and Arizona Thompson pulled Carroll County to within 13-11 but Radford answered back with eight straight points to put the third set out of reach. The score was a duplicate 25-17 but Carroll County was far from done.

Brealeigh Love landed a kill to tie the final set at 11-11 and a Harris Ace gave Carroll County its final lead at 16-13. Radford relied on its big hitters to pull away with a 6-0 run and went on to close out the match, 25-21.

Carroll County will finally return to The Hill on Tuesday night and close out the regular season on Thursday night. Martinsville (Senior Night) and James River (Pink Out) will provide the opposition as the Lady Cavaliers are set to hold a Pink Out and then Celebrate Senior Night.

Radford captured the Junior Varsity match 2-0 (25-17, 25-19). Paige Ogle and Aaliyah Hampton led the attack for Head Coach Nikki Heflin.

The end of the Three Rivers District road trip gets underway shortly as Stop βœ‹ #6 of 6 gets underway at Radford High School 🏫 at 5:30 pm, Live for the Night πŸŒ™

Carroll County High School Volleyball 🏐 played Radford on The Hill back on September 23rd, 23 days ago. By the time they play again in their own gym next Tuesday night πŸŒ™ the number will reach 28 days.

Being that Martinsville is new to the Three Rivers District, its safe to say that the Volleyball team has made a bit of history by playing all six teams in road matches in one stretch !

9/25 – won at Martinsville (62 miles )

9/30 – lost at James River (99 miles )

10/2 – won at Patrick County (37 miles)

10/7 – lost at Glenvar (66 miles )

10/9 – Bye

10/14 – won at Floyd County (29 miles)

10/16 – playing at Radford (40 miles)

333 One way miles on a School Bus 🚌 since playing at 🏑🏠🏑. The team has gone 3-2 on the loop and a great deal has happened along the way.

Laiken Burnett was lost for the season with a hand βœ‹ injury.

Callie Harris joined the 1,000 Dig Club

Corrie Delp injured her ankle.

Through it all, the team has continued to bond with each other and players have adjusted to new roles. Faith Nicholson continues to grow more comfortable wearing the Libero jersey after trading places with Harris.

Next Tuesday night πŸŒ™ we should throw a Welcome πŸ™ Home 🏑 party for our road weary Parents and Student Athletes. Maybe hold it in the Gymnasium and invite EVERYONE to join the fun.

Maybe even celebrate Cancer β™‹ Awareness by having a Pink Out !

Just have to survive one more last trip and be thankful that Alleghany wasn’t on the list…
