Sometimes, a random act of kindness has an expiration date, while other times, it will last a lifetime ! It’s Boulder City Day, and that will always mean just one thing…

November 4, 2022, was the last time that Matt and I were in the same room. It was at his home in Western Massachusetts, and I had driven there after watching Duke University play football at Boston College.

We first met years earlier out at Hoover Dam while we were on a tour bus 🚌 heading out to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon.

My traveling party that day included my late father, wife Linda, and Christopher, while Matt was flying solo. Chris and Matt are close in age, so they hit it off almost immediately. In fact, I am not sure but feel pretty comfortable about the fact that shared a drink or two on the return ride back to Vegas.

While I happily share my own challenges in life, I am more protective of stories that belong to other people. So, I will just summarize that point in life by saying that Matt was in need of a friend that day.

We struck up a conversation about the circumstances, and I agreed to pick him up the next morning in hopes of completing his quest. It took a bit to accomplish it, but the experience created a memory that I still treasure today.

Matt is in a great place, with a beautiful bride and lovely children. I’m not sure that our paths will ever cross again, but I am thankful that they did back then.

Today’s magical moment starts at the Boulder City Airport πŸ›« as Tracy Mellis is about to go all Big League on us !

7:00, a departure from Boulder City with the destination of the Grand Canyon floor ! Once there, you step out and soak it all in ( I hear that they pop πŸŽ‰ a bottle of 🍾🍾🍾 to celebrate the occasion.

Once in a lifetime moment for sure, and they six passengers have just finished watching πŸ‘€ the safety video πŸ“Ή and the pre-flight weigh-in is also in the books πŸ“š..

I am truly looking forward to hearing all about it when she returns….

Let’s talk about the beauty of “chalk” ahead of the World Cup Final Four….

The four best soccer ⚽️ clubs in the world 🌎 remain, and that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. What we have is the equivalent of an NCAA Men’s Basketball tournament where all four #1 seeds took care of business in reaching the promised land.

Argentina πŸ‡¦πŸ‡· needing three goals in the closing minutes of play against Egypt πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡¬ was thrilling television for sure. There have been plenty of WOW moments over the past month, and getting to attend a match in person was an unexpected experience.

Now we have the team from South America needing to defeat two European πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡Ί clubs to defend their title, something that happens once in a blue moon. Lionel Messi plays the game at a level that few could ever envision, and if he caps off his brilliant career with Back 2 Back πŸ†πŸ†on the biggest stage, the world 🌎 has to offer it would be epic.

Thank you, Norway πŸ‡³πŸ‡΄ and Scotland, for leaving your mark on this tournament. Know that your time here will not be forgotten anytime soon.

The remaining questions are as follows :

#1 – Who are you pulling for and why ?

#2 – Who do you think will win the Cup ?

I have to acknowledge that Messi & Friends winning it again would be the mother of storybook endings. The easiest path is to hope for that outcome, but listening to 60,000 fans sing ” Hey, Jude” after Bellingham put the biscuit in the basket 🧺 twice again…..

It’s been a fun, fun ride that included a FIFA ⚽️ watch party for a match, attending a match, a Canadian watch party for the Canada πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ match, and listening to Chris talk about the Scotland versus Brazil πŸ‡§πŸ‡· match.

Don’t forget about all of McDonald’s World Cup meals….

The stage is set and should be a great watch !
