Let’s take a look inside the lines with the New River Community College Muskies and the Carroll County High School 🏫 pipeline that leads up to Dublin

Pulaski County – Wes Adcock has been putting his degree from Virginia Tech University to good work in Dublin since 2000. The Muskies head coach is also an instructor at New River Community College in Dublin ( founded in 1959), and the future of his baseball program is getting brighter by the day.

Today, the Muskies are hosting the University of North Carolina – Greensboro Club Team at Motor Mile Field inside Calfee Park. The scheduled doubleheader will end the regular season for the team, but now the year because the 35-win team is heading to the playoffs as either a one or two seed with the games to be played in Charleston, West Virginia.

Adcock couldn’t have been any Kinder to someone whom he was meeting for the first time, and the roughly 30 minutes was enlightening and them some. Coach was quick to credit his #2 for the current talent level at NRCC.

” Once Chris hit the recruiting trail, we went from having 13 ballplayers to having 36 of them,” Adcock said. ” Once we gained momentum, everything started to fall into place.”

Coach Campbell was equally excited about the program and just as personable. Chris did offer one thought that was a very pleasant surprise.

” Everything we have accomplished as of late was due to the signing of one player,” Campbell said. ” When you sign someone of the caliber of Lance Burnett, it gets the attention of other talented players from the area.”

Let that one sink in for a minute or two, at least, that is what I had to do. During the drive down from West Virginia this morning, I wasn’t sure exactly what to find when we arrived at the ballpark, but having two coaches tell me that Laiken’s Big Brother was the first domino to fall that set the record breaking season in motion.

Burnett has made great use of his time in Dublin as the sophomore is collecting school records at the speed that a youngster eats Skittles. It will be interesting to see what pitching records Burnett doesn’t hold??

Freshman, Cody Reece, taking care of business at the Hot Corner

Calling game 1 from behind the dish, our third former Cavalier, Britt Berrier.

The transition from Head Coach Kevin DeHaven to Casey Burcham has appeared flawless back on The Hill, and I would have to imagine that both of our leaders back home our smiling today.

Berrier and Reece are batting third and fourth in the lineup in game one.

Today is also Sophomore Day for the Muskies, and Coach says that they have nine players at the end of their path, but he also mentioned that he would welcome a third season with Burnett.

We aren’t the only folks up from The Hill to cheer on our former Cavaliers !

In just a few days, the team will head up the West Virginia turnpike to chase the dream of reaching the World Series. Win or lose, know that three young men will be out on the Diamond πŸ’Ž , playing under the tutelage of Coaches Adcock and Campbell.

Those same three young men learned the game under the guidance of folks like DeHaven, Burcham, Steve Combs, Adam Nester, and Company back on The Hill.

Berrier second at bat in the bottom of the third inning.

Britt drew a base on balls to load the bases for Cody Reece in a scoreless game. That would be too much of a Hollywood ending , right ? Our Rooster πŸ“ with a 2-run bingle !!! Not done yet, Cody steals home as part of a double steal. Muskies lead 4-0 after three innings.

We are closing in on the time to head down Highway 100 to help Coach Vickey Ritchie with her Special Olympics Basketball practice, but know this about our trio of Carroll County High School graduates πŸŽ“, they are still chasing education and Baseball dreams.

After meeting the Muskies coaches, I can safely say that our Cavaliers are in excellent hands !

Berrier is batting for the third time in the bottom of the fourth… walked again.

Reece, with the score 9-0, at bat #3 three, walk πŸšΆβ€β™‚οΈ.

Proud Papa Club !!!

Natalie Harris has reached the end of the road after a decade of representing her school with a combination of class and toughness !

From Middle School 🏫 to High School and finally the campus of Emory & Henry, Natalie Harris has laced them up in a number of sports across the past decade. Basketball, Volleyball 🏐, Soccer ⚽️,  Swimming πŸŠβ€β™‚οΈ and LaCrosse are just some of the stops βœ‹οΈ along the way.

Each school 🏫 and each sport received 110% of what the middle Harris daughter had to  give her coaches and teammates. The future is bright for this one !

As Sherry Slaughter does to the east, Maleah Neely has dual citizenship from the west. Any day that includes a Ms Neely smile is a great day !

Maleah, Marion Harris, and Adrienne Harris McGuire. Two shiny examples of what the combination of a CCHS and E & H education will get you !

Maleah Neely returned to The Hill yesterday afternoon as a member of the coaching staff of the Galax Middle School 🏫 Soccer team.

Neely starred on four straight Cundy Edwards led Carroll County High School Volleyball 🏐 teams before taking her love for the game over to Emory and Henry.

To give you an idea πŸ’‘ of just how much game this  graduate πŸŽ“ of CCHS has, here is the capsule from E & H.

My favorite part of her is that she has a heart of gold !

Neely has remained a part of CCHS volleyball for roughly 20 years now, and while her day job requires her to work on the west end, this outstanding young lady will always be part of The Hill !

Good luck with the rest of the season, and please πŸ™ keep being who you are !

Pop Quiz : Which part of this story is cooler ? The fact that three players from The Hill who played under two coaches as Cavaliers are now playing as teammates on a team ranked in the Nation’s Top 20 !

It’s a trick question because everything about this story is AWESOME !

Sophomore Lance Burnett recently took over the top spot in All-Time wins at the school 🏫 and now the program sits at #14 in the Country !

Burnett played in the final season of Kevin DeHaven being at the helm while Reece and Berrier graduated πŸŽ“ from the first year of Casey Burcham as Head Coach.

Upcoming schedule for the Muskies, and you will notice games slated for both Dublin and Pulaski !

Congratulations, fellas, and thank you for representing Cav Nation in such a great manner !
