Welcome πŸ™ to the VHSL Scholastic Bowl πŸ₯£ Regional Tournament ! Day Long Post πŸ“«

It’s not very often that one School is competing in three Regional meets in one day but that’s where we are today.

Wrestling is on its way to Staunton River, Swimming πŸŠβ€β™‚οΈ is on their way to Christiansburg and here on The Hill we are hosting the Scholastic Bowl.

Our Academic correspondent, Mrs Shannon Dalton is on her way to Christiansburg with her Son and the Swim team. This is relevant because I was going to frame up whichever event she would not be at.

Hence, I will do my very best to write ✍ about what is going to take place here today and while I can pen πŸ–Š most stories with my eyes πŸ‘€ closed, this one will very much be learn as you go!

Ten teams were set to compete today but Magna Vista was forced to drop out as two of their five players have become ill.

The format is a carbon copy of Basketball with the opening round being play-in matches.

7 vs 10

8 vs 9

The second round will be the quarterfinals : 8/9 vs 1, 7/10 vs 2, 3 vs 6 & 4 vs 5.

The Schedule

Taking a look at the roster for Carroll County, there are 14 Cavaliers that compete on the team. Two of the team members are with the Swim πŸŠβ€β™‚οΈ team ( Ethan Edwards and Bradley Dalton) and one is with Coach Long ( Trenton Newman), leaving 11 available.

From that list, six are chosen to compete with four playing at all times. Players five and six are eligible to be subbed in when needed.

Getting ready in the Cafeteria, home base for the nine schools 🏫 attending.

Everyone here has been incredibly helpful in helping me create the framework for this day long story.

Four different places inside of the School 🏫 will be used after the opening round. The Library, 111, 102 and 236.

The Library

Today is a big day on the Academics side of the building and we hope to do the day justice βš–.

Please check back as often as you like !

WVU TECH-Lourdes Baseball 2/15/25…
-We are canceling today’s games

Text message making it official…

It was pretty much a forgone conclusion that we would not be able to squeeze in games 3 & 4 of our weekend series but we still have to wait until its official and now it has !

The team could have built on the sweep of Friday’s double header but Mother Nature had other plans.

Next up on the schedule πŸ“… is a home game on Tuesday versus Kentucky Christian ✝️ University but there’s no guarantee there either.

It’s a Great Day to be a Golden Bear 🐻, even when its no longer a Game Day !

Good Morning πŸ™ and Welcome to Regional Day x 4 for our Carroll County High School 🏫 Cavaliers: Part One – Wrestling

CCHS has four CavaliersΒ  ( pictured above) that have already πŸ‘Š punched their tickets 🎟 to a State Tournament. Today a large number of fellow students will give it their best shot to add to that total and we will do our best to shine a light on their efforts !

The sites involved include Staunton River High School, Christiansburg Aquatic Center and Carroll County High School

As the clock ⏰ strikes 6am now, we start with the journey about to begin for West Long and his Wrestling Cavaliers.

The level of dedication that it takes to Wrestle at the High School level is pretty much overwhelming at first glance. The team is getting ready to head up to the School 🏫 for the 7am sharp departure time.

Some of the group will get to have breakfast while others will have to ” make weight”. Next step in the process will be a lengthy Bus 🚌 ride up to Staunton River High School.

Once there, each Student Athlete will begin the process of hitting the calibrated scales βš– in order to qualify for the event. With a dozen schools competing and 14 classifications per team, this takes a bit.

Once everyone clears that hurdle they will begin the wait part of the day. The actual Wrestling doesn’t begin until Noon so in six hours from now, the initial matches will begin. Three periods of two minutes is the high end of time each grapler is looking at and each competitor is guaranteed two matches.

Quick Math tells me that 12 minutes of action 🎬 is all that everyone is guaranteed and that’s if they don’t get pinned before the end of that. Don’t forget that they get to ride home once the meet is over but at least then they can eat food !

Seniors !
Coaches

West Long is a focused young Man πŸ‘¨ with a vision that is laser focused to say the least. He’s easy to pull for and today is the Day that his group has waited for all season.

There’s no reason for a member of Cav Nation to give up their entire day to drive up to the meet in hopes of cheering on our Student Athletes compete in a sport that most cannot relate to easily. But there is a reason to know that they are doing this for themselves, their families, their teammates, their School 🏫 and Community!

We will keep this Post πŸ“« open throughout the day and add to it as information becomes available.

Before Friday night πŸŒ™ becomes Saturday morning πŸŒ„ we call it a Day with a Golden Bears 🐻 Baseball ⚾️ double header sweep up in Charleston, WV !

A planned four game series on Saturday and Sunday was crunched down into a makeshift Friday double header in a Stadium 🏟 one hour up the road.

But the great news is we swept the twin bill !

We were set to host Kentucky Christian University ✝️ in Beckley on Tuesday afternoon but Mother Nature is saying Not So Fast. It’s funny that Mother Nature sounds like Lee Corso.

Life in NAIA baseball ⚾️ moves at a rapid pace. When the day started on Thursday I had five home games in Beckley to plan for and just like that, poof, what was five looks like Nill.

But tonight we celebrate wins #1 & 2 on the season !
