Next Stop βœ‹ Williamsburg ! Scholastic Bowl πŸ₯£ Regional efforts earn team a trip to State !Part 1 of 6 in a Series titled 36 hours in the Commonwealth

Coach Paxton Berrier and a dedicated team of Students accompanied something on Saturday at Carroll County High School 🏫 that has earned them a trip to Colonial Williamsburg on March 1st.

Hosting the Regional tournament and having earned the #2 seed for their efforts this season, the Cavaliers held serve and earned the Runner Up trophy πŸ†despite competing without three of their Students due to other Regional events being played at the same time.

Early Morning warmups

The first piece of business is to congratulate the entire group and the roster has 14 names on it.

Bradley Dalton and Ethan Edwards were at the Swimming πŸŠβ€β™‚οΈ meet and Trenton Newman was competing at the Wrestling meet at Staunton River High School.

Conner Beasley, Cameron Cooke II, Cameron Crockett – Brown, Caylee King, Julia Largen, Zoe Martin, Joseph Rash – Roward, Jacob Roberts, Sadie Spence, Jacob Talbert and Terry Woods II all gave of their time to compete for their Coach, Principal Chuck Thompson and their classmates

Mr Kevin DeHaven, seen here holding the πŸ†πŸ†, was on site to welcome the other Schools and oversee the event.

Not only would I like to say Congratulations to Coach Berrier and the entire team, I would also like to extend an invitation to anyone who would like to describe their take on Saturday and / or the upcoming trip to Williamsburg.

Congratulations Coach !

Welcome πŸ™ to Virginia Tech, the Land of Hokies!

You will notice that I will share less Photos πŸ“· when around Vickey Ritchie and its because she educates me on the challenges that she faces everyday in regards to her program.

10:00 am is the start time for Team #1 of 2 and the festivities will be going on throughout the day !

The Lady πŸ‘© that captures every moment β™₯ possible !

How this works is that the team consists of two ” Partners” and three Players at all times. Dr David McPherson and Mr. Jason Burnette are the partners for this group. They stay on the court from start to finish, acting as Governors of the team.

We are late in the fourth quarter now of the first of many games and the reaction of the players when they score is priceless !!!!! Please know that the names of the players not appearing is for good reason. Carroll County 30-20 in the opener. It’s worth noting that Linda became the Water πŸ’§ Boy for the game.

At High Noon our second team, the Sureshots, will take the court for the first time.

11am – 11:45 is Lunch time in Section 113. Great to see so many caring people who are taking care of others.

Well, its now 1:40 and a few things have happened since 11:45

First thing being I was promoted to Assistant Coach of the Sure Shots. We ended up winning our game with a late basket 🧺.

Using the Kenny Chesney song 🎡, now I know how Kris Richardson feels !

1pm – 1:30 was the Opening Ceremony, including the lighting of a torch πŸ”¦.

3:00 pm will be the next action 🎬 and it turns out that both of our teams are set to play at the same time. Hence, the need to be the Assistant Coach for Game #1

After a Day of Emotions and Dreams on Saturday, its the same for Vickey Ritchie βž• our Special Olympics Basketball πŸ€ program on Sunday

Sunday is a time for worship and Prayers so πŸ™ if you want to add one to your list, please let it be for Vickey Ritchie and everyone involved with the events taking place at Virginia Tech today.

The post πŸ“« she shared up top shows a little bit about the schedule for our two teams throughout the day but it cannot possibly show how important the day is to the group as a whole.

Just days removed from Tim Tebow and his annual Celebration, A Night to Shine, Carroll County Special Olympics Basketball πŸ€ will spend today on the campus of VT playing hoops with others from across the Commonwealth.

Everything Vickey Ritchie does is about inclusion and today is about that in Spades ♠️. All of the Sunday afternoon practices and the Basketball Classic, its all designed to prepare everyone for today.

Yesterday morning πŸŒ„ when I wrote the Wrestling preview, I mentioned that folks didn’t need to block off their day and drive up to Staunton River High School to watch the day long meet but being aware of the level of commitment involved with the Student Athletes participating would be Awesome. Today is the same type of day, just a different group of young people that are getting ready for their version of the Super Bowl.

Let’s hope that the unbelievable amount of rain that has fallen in our area doesn’t prevent everyone from being able to experience their day of their Year.

The beautiful thing about Vickey is she has so many people who are assisting her with this today that when the dust settles she will be able to craft a message that will guide you through the adventure that is about to take place in the Land of Hokies.

πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™

Carroll County High School 🏫 showed they can Think, Wrestle and Swim πŸŠβ€β™‚οΈ with the Best of them today in Mega Regional Tournament Day!

There are a number of impressive stories to be told about the efforts of our Cavaliers today and if I ever make it back home 🏑, I will start the typing !

Thank You to Kevin DeHaven, Shannon Dalton and everyone who I met at the School today before heading out.
