Have yourself a Blessed Day π and I will pick this back up later!
The Hill – Anthony Barnes and Jason Stockner sent our five Seniors out for the opening tap and 32 minutes later they celebrated a 49 – 41 victory over James River that keeps their Regional tournament dreams alive for another day!
The team will now bus π up to Glenvar High School Wednesday knowing that if they can complete the season sweep over the Highlanders that they will sneak into the post season.
Not only did the five Seniors start the game for Barnes but many had to carry a bigger load because the team was without both Hayden Jackson and Colton Gravley due to injuries suffered during last weeks five games in six days. If the work load wasn’t bad enough, the opposition was stacked with physical teams that are looking to make deep tournament runs.
Isaiah Easter and Trace Reavis were joined in the starting lineup by Kyle Bunn, Isaiah Leagans and Landon Phillips. The group enjoyed the moment and kept pace with the Knights as both the first quarter (9) and second quarter (21) ended in a tie π.
The third quarter played out the same until Easter ( game high 17 points) made two of three free throws to put Carroll County ahead 31-29 heading into the final 8:00.
Easter is the lone Senior that logged Varsity minutes across each of the past four seasons but if he was going to earn a bonus game (or more) he was going to need some help from his friends down the stretch.
James River busted out the gate in the fourth quarter, scoring the first seven points in just under 2:00. Trailing 36-31 and running πββοΈ out of time, it was Junior Blake Reed that stepped up first by drilling a 3-pointer. Just 15 seconds later, Easter stole the ball and created an And One opportunity with a lean-in that fired up the House π .
Easter finishing the And One with 5:36 remaining.
It took 15 seconds to erase the lead and then it was just lock π down defense that fueled the 18-5 close out that secured the first of two must have victories.
Β Bunn added a follow-up basket π§Ί and Reed (12 points)Β added another 3-ball to go with Reavis (12 points) and his perfect execution of a play that would have made Dean Smith smile. The Knights did not score from 3:04 until 0:14 and by then it was all over but the celebration.
Will Motley ( 4 points) and Landon Kinder ( 2 points ) rounded out the scoring column and both were crucial to the defensive side of the floor.
The Junior Varsity team had the night off as James River only fielded one team this season but both teams will head up I-81 Wednesday afternoon.
What does one do after winning a game that you simply had to win ? You share a moment with your Lead Assistant Coach, long-time friend and Co-worker, Jason Stockner !
After taking a moment to rejoice, Coach Barnes shared his thoughts on his Seniors and the victory.
” Man what a way to send the Seniors out. I was so proud of the first quarter, all Seniors on the floor , digging, working πͺ clawing to stay alive and have a chance to win on a huge night.
Proud of Cavalier Nation for supporting us and giving us the 6th man from the stands ! Yesterday in practice I really pushed the guys defensively and I’m sure they didn’t like it but it paid off tonight.
Β Β Β All my Seniors played apart in this win and I will never forget it. Isaiah Easter 17 points, 6 rebounds 3,assits .Trace Reavis 12 points ,6 Rebounds a steal. Kyle Bunn , Isaiah Leagans and Landon Phillips all sold minutes.
We played Team ball and executed down the stretch and really played some good defense, switching it up on them constantly, proud of guys talking and adjusting on the Fly. We have kept ourselves alive for now, on tomorrow to lockup with Glenvar in a huge match-up for us wanting to get into Region play.
Β Β How about the Cavs on Senior night, one to remember!”
Congratulations π Coach and go get one Wednesday night π!
All of my Photos π· tonight were sent to me by Vickey and Jeannie Ritchie. I am truly grateful π and if you would like to see more of them here is the live link.
