We had plenty of highly regarded people in very visible places last night π in the Gym on The Hill.
Incredibly successful Carroll County High School Swim Coach Joi Ogle was in the house as was Girls Soccer β½οΈ Coach, Adrienne Harris McGuire. Hard working Athletic Director Kevin DeHaven and recently promoted to the Central Office, Jay Holderfield were spotted as was SRO Chris Mabry.
Maleah Neely was sparkling in the first row, a few seats πΊ removed from Shelia Harris’s Father – In – Law. Junior Varsity Baseball Coach Adam Nester and Trainer Nathan Jones were also spotted in the crowd.
Donna Nester was glowing after her recent trip out West and Softball was represented by her Husband, Rick.
Varsity QuarterBack Isaiah Easter and Mom, who played Volleyball π back in the day were also in the crowd.
One very zealous fan took the time to answer the burning Red Carpet question – Sir, what are you wearing ?
” Clothes”
On a more serious note π, Mr Osborne had this to say..
” When the team is throwing out volleyballs to their parents and their parents couldn’t bethere, you know that you have been Blessed when they pick you out of the crowd to make the catch!β€οΈ”.
Long time Volleyball π Coach Cindy Edwards was spotted as well but she looked way to busy to be bothered.
Thank You to everyone who joined us in the Gymnasium last night and we hope to see you again π on Monday night !
Howard Mayo checks β in with his Friday Food for Thought, ahead of tonight’s Varsity Football game versus Grayson County.
Don’t forget about the Bleacher dedication in addition to Week 2 of the season.
Carroll County (1-0) after an impressive victory over Christiansburg while the Blue Devils dropped a 28-21 decision at Alleghany High in Sparta, North Carolina.
Β In sharing a recap at 530 am with Mrs. Tammy Quesenberry about last night in the Gym ( Tammy was celebrating her Husband’s Birthday π), I described the evening as one full of positive energy.
Both teams were well represented and the action π¬ on the floor was entertaining and there was pride in the program on display.
Β Β The idea π‘ is to remember that we are all in this together and anytime that we can do something that reminds us of that, with little or no cost, in should be a No-brainer.
Β The natural next step would be to invite the Father’s down to stand with their Daughters on Monday night. Assuming that they all make it through Saturday and the All-Day Volleyball Fest over in Glade Springs !
The Carroll County High School Volleyball π program is very much about Family πͺ and it felt that way last night !
Hoping that someone π might send one in from the Junior Varsity team as well.
It will be hard to imagine that Cindy Edwards and her Lady Cavaliers will face a more experienced team than Patrick County as the Lady Cougars came to The Hill with a line-up that included eight Seniors and five Juniors.
Patrick County rode their experience to a 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 26-24) Three Rivers District victory over Carroll County Thursday night in the Cavaliers gym at CCHS.
The Lady Cavaliers (2-1,0-1) made a stand in each of the three sets but each time the visitors were able to answer the run. In the opening set PCHS led 22-13 before the Lady Cavaliers strung together four straight points, highlighted by a perfectly timed block from the duo Corrie Delp and Arizona Thompson. Ali Wright cut the deficit to 23-18 with a loud Kill before the visitors closed out the set.
The second set was back and forth as neither team strung together more than three straight points. Brooke Webb landed a Kill to pull Carroll County to within 21-19. Once again, Patrick County was able to regroup, closing out the set with a 25-20 victory.
In the closing set the teams were tied at 10, 11 and 14 before Patrick County explored for an 8-2 run. Trailing 22-16 and on the brink of their night ending, Carroll County made one final stand. Maddie Hyatt was at the service line for the 6-0 run that tied the set at 22. Wright connected twice for Huge finishes of great sets as the team looked to force a fourth set.
Wright tied the set again at 23-23 before the Lady Cougars closed out the night in extras, 26-24
Carroll County High School will compete all day Saturday over in Glade Springs at Patrick County High School. The annual Jamboree style event takes place beginning at 9:00 am with the Lady Cavaliers opening their day at 11am.
Nikki Heflin led her Junior Varsity team for the first time on the home court to begin the night. Aubrey Hanshaw capped a 3-0 run with a Kill to give CCHS an 11-10 lead in the opener. Later, Aaliyah Hampton landed an Ace to get Carroll County within 24-19 before the visitors won 25-19.
In the second set, another Ace from Hampton pulled Carroll County to within one at 13-12. At that point PCHS strung together the longest run of the night, 10 straight and closed out the match, 25-13.
“”The JV girls’ volleyball team played a great game; even though we didnβt win, we saw significant improvement ” said Coach Heflin. ” Iβm so proud of the hard work they have put in and how they played tonight!β
