Tazewell is kinda on the way home from Beckley, but no, not really…

Our JV Lady Cavaliers are tied up 2-2 at Tazewell High School in the bottom of the third inning.

Go Cavs !!!

Bottom of the 3rd inning ends on a shoe string catch by the Cavs !!!

We now know that the game plan has switched from two five inning games to one seven inning contest.

RBI single on this very pitch ! Carroll County leads 3-2.

RBI triple makes it 4 – 2 !!

Mr Dave Quesenberry has bus driver duty today !

Carroll County faithful !

RBI double with two outs makes it 5-2 !

Hearing no sound at a ballgame is just unnatural.

Infield single makes it 6-2, that one belonged to Molly.

Middle of the 4th, Lady Cavs leading 6-2 at 6:20 pm

Another shoe top grab by our rightfielder, Miss Parker !

As you can tell, I’m doing this on the fly and playing catchup.

Ava Beamer is pitching. Miss Moser is playing first base, Miss Lineberry is playing 2nd….

A Beamer strike out of a Bulldog ends the bottom of the fourth inning.

Miss Mylie Crook (#13) leading off the top of the 5th, followed by Maeli Parker (#12). Infield single for Parker, Miss Aspen Aldred (#16), in the box πŸ“¦ now. Parker advances on a wild pitch and a swipe of 3rd base.

Parker scores on a misque by the short stop. #6 now in as a pinch runner, our Miss Aleigha Beamer. Kiley Lineberry at the plate – walked πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈ. Next up, Miss Addisyn Lineberry rips a two run triple. Up 9-2!!

Three more runs in the top of the fifth inning make it 9-2.

Defensively – Parker in right, Parker in center, and Montgomery in left.

3B – Aldred, SS – Campbell, 2B – A. Lineberry, 1B – Moser, C-K. Lineberry and P-Ava Beamer.

Tazewell has plated two in the  bottom of the fifth, still batting.

Strikeout leaves two stranded in scoring position, 9-4 as we go to the sixth.

Now that I’m caught up, I’m lying down in the outfield grass. My wife cracks that I might live here now – she’s just mean.

Top 6th – Lady Cavaliers touch home plate SIX and now lead, 15 -4 !! Six hits and 1 walk πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈ.

Three outs away from a run rule.

Lady Cavaliers win 15 – 4, at 7:13 pm

Golden Bears 🐻 storm back to defeat Bluefield University 10-9, winning on a walkoff single !

Beckley, West Virginia – West Virginia Tech University trailed 6-1 entering the bottom of the sixth inning at home on Tuesday, but the bats woke up, allowing the Golden Bears to escape with a 10-9 victory.

Angel Leiva ripped a two out single to score Brayden Kiblinger from second base to send the fans at Lunda K Epling Stadium home happy.

Kiplinger coaxed a walk from Noah Burtner after two were out. Burtner hit Nolan Copeland with a pitch to move Kiplinger into scoring position and set the table for Leiva to play the role of hero.

Jordan Ramsey opened the game for Bluefield by depositing the first pitch of the game over the left centerfield fence. WVU-T bounced back in the bottom of the inning, tying the game on an infield single from Cody Cooper. But the bats went quiet over the next four innings, leaving the home team down 6-1, heading into the bottom of the six.

Nate Wolfe led off with a triple and three batters later, Kiblinger added a rare second triple of the frame. By the time the Rams recorded the third out, seven Golden Bears had touched home plate. Skipper Lawrence Nesselrodt sent 12 to the plate during the uprising, and five Golden Bears picked up an RBI.

WVU-T protected their first lead, 8-6 until the top of the eighth inning. Bluefield regained the lead on a 3-run inside the park home run from Shawn Cherry.

Trailing 9-8 heading into the bottom of the eighth, Nesselrodt pulled out all of the stops in hopes of evening the score. Gabe Templeton led off with a single, and JJ Polvinale laid down a perfect bunt to move Templeton into  position. Bluefield threw behind him, and the error moved him to third base. Carson Brown executed a textbook suicide squeeze, and the teams headed to the ninth at 9-9.

Clayton Hargus took the mound as the ninth WVU-T pitcher of the day and pitched around a runner on third base to position himself for the victory.

The Golden Bears return to Epling Stadium on Friday to open a three game set with River States Conference rival, Rio Grande. The first pitch is slated for 3pm with a doable header set for Saturday at Noon.

Bluefield University … 132 000 030 – 9   15

West Virginia Tech….   100 007 011 – 10 14

Two out when winning run scored.

You never know who you might meet at the ball diamond πŸ’Ž, today presented 10 good minutes with Mr Tyler Rakes from The Hill !

What a great conversation with this impressive young man πŸ‘¨ and I will need to circle πŸ”΅ back to write the story as we are just moments away from first pitch.

Rakes and his Bluefield Rams 🐏 are our opponents today, and it led to a brief interaction with the former Cavalier..

Baseball ⚾️ is a family thing, and it turns out that Tyler is related to a number of folks back home and we will start the list with his little brother, Chanson, who is the Varsity catcher for Head Coach Casey Burcham.

We are both HUGE fans of Coach Burcham and the things that the Burcham Bunch is getting done on The Hill !

Both equally proud of The Castle 🏰 and Tyler uses it to throw during the summer.

There is plenty more to come here, but it is time for me to start announcing the game.

When he played at Bill Worrell Field he did so under the guidance of current Athletic Director and former head coach, Kevin DeHaven.

” Tyler was a great young man and still is, said Mr DeHaven. “He was a competitor who gave you everything each time he stepped up to the plate or on the mound. I’m very proud of his continued work ethic, which has led him to be the young man he is today.”

Back on March 3rd, Rakes pitched against our Golden Bears 🐻 at the Rams 🐏 home park, an incredibly beautiful and historic place down on the State Line. The Golden Bears prevailed in a shootout that day, 10 – 8.

Bowen Field

Looking back at his time on The Hill, Tyler was quick to point πŸ‘‰ out his favorite memories are the teammates and the camaraderie, especially on the road trips.

Bluefield picked up three runs in the top of the second and now lead, 4-1. I’m really hoping πŸ™ that Tyler might make a relief appearance later in the game.

Tyler’s Rams 🐏 lead our Golden Bears 🐻 6-1 in the top of the 5th inning.

Tyler spoke highly of his younger brother, Chanson. The younger Rakes was called up to Varsity during his freshman season and figures to hold down the starting catcher spot for quite the spell.

Two other family members who Tyler was quick to talk about are cousins of his. Turns out that Christy’s Girl πŸ‘§ and Tyler are close, so those two minutes of the conversation were a bonus. The opening game of the SoCon tournament came up quickly.

It turns out that the young man who sits in the press box πŸ“¦ at Bill Worrell Field is kin as well ! Deana’s Boy πŸ‘¦ is an impressive young man and does a terrific job with his announcing of the Cavalier home baseball games !

Kudos to the Rakes for raising such an impressive young man ! Tyler is well-spoken, considerate, and proud of his family, which makes him yet another great ambassador for The Hill !

We have rallied here in the bottom of the sixth inning with three runs to pull within 6-4. This is only relevant to this story because I would love ❀️ to say that now pitching for the Bluefield University Rams is #25 , Tyler Rakes from Carroll County, Virginia.

The Rams just put in their fourth pitcher of the game, so there’s a chance.

We plated seven runs πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ in the bottom of the sixth and now lead 8-6. I’m still hoping to see our boy πŸ‘¦ pitch.

The fifth pitcher for the Rams 🐏 is in, but sadly not Mr Rakes.

Rams 🐏 retake the lead on a 3-run inside the park home run. Now 9-8, Bottom 8th.

Golden Bears 🐻 tie it at 9-9 on a suicide squeeze ! Headed to the ninth inning.

9-9, Bottom 9th, Rams put in their sixth pitcher. Noah Burtner.

Golden Bears win 10-9 on a walkoff single by Angel Leiva !

Bummed I didn’t get to say, now pitching for the Rams, #25 Tyler Rakes but getting to meet the impressive young man was awesome !!!!

Time of game – 3:02

What could be better than spending an afternoon announcing baseball ⚾️ and writing ✍️ about yet another successful former Cavalier from The Hill !

Editor Note πŸ“ – apologies for looking like a hobo in the picture, but there wasn’t much downtime between last night at Cavalier Park, writing stories, and driving up to Beckley.

Today’s workplace has an uplifting πŸ™ effect when you walk through the gates ! Welcome to Linda K Epling Stadium, home of the Bible Verses…

When I first had the opportunity to ask Mr Doug Epling how he got away with having Bible Verses all over the outside walls 🧱, I loved his response.

” When you build something with your own money πŸ’°, you don’t have to hide from your beliefs.”

In a world 🌎 engulfed with political correctness, it’s a breath of fresh air to see someone who is able to stand for what he or she believes in !

Bluefield University has arrived, so its time to go over and read their roster withΒ  their Head Coach.

The first pitch is set for 1pm, and it’s a beautiful day for a baseball ⚾️ game!

Just the latest reason β™₯️ for feeling blessed to know the young lady I proudly call our 3rd daughter….

Yesterday afternoon, our Lady Cavaliers were hosting a softball game, which meant that both Velvet Leonard and I had things to do, but Coach McGuire was hosting Grayson County in a tennis match in the same parking lot.

I had stopped by on my way in and visited and promised to do the same on the way out if we finished up first.

To quote Eddie Walls, ” We are all in this together.”

Velvet Leonard does her heavenly work with a camera while I do mine with a microphone 🎀 and writing ✍️.

The fact that Kiddo saw πŸ‘€ a group of Cavaliers playing for our school 🏫 and couldn’t just walk past them either brings joy to my heart !
