On a day that our Alyssa Ervin started and dropped a College high of 22 points, we salute the young Man πŸ‘¨ that ” discovered ” her back in the Day

Marion Harris, as the story goes, saw a little Girl looking for something to do  Harris suggested that she give Basketball πŸ€ a try. As they say in Hollywood, the rest is History !

Now, getting back to the Day that Marion had on Saturday over in Southwest Virginia and then back on The Hill.

From Marion :

Yesterday was truly a great day for FCA All Star Senior Volleyball Games at Central Wise high school. Not only did we do one Senior All Star game, we did two! With nearly forty high school seniors from nearly twenty different high schools we did something we had never done.
It required much more work and coordination but with the help of many great coaches and volunteers God really blessed us. One of the highlights was our pregame devotions led by players themselves. They were amazing. Then the athleticism displayed on the court had the fans in awe. Talent and skill powerfully executed.

Four All Star Senior teams brought lots of friends and families together for one last opportunity for faith, fellowship and fun!
Thanks to all who played a part in one amazing day!
From Gary Maggard
FCA Rep and organizer of the games

When Marion isn’t discovering talent or helping run FCA events, he stays busy raising three Daughters.

After Volleyball 🏐 yesterday, the youngest of the Harris Sisters had to rush back to The Hill for her part in an ensemble cast for a performance 🎭 under the guidance of Patricia Lineberry.

More from Marion :

” Our three seniors helped bring together players from five different high schools. Our ladies played their hearts out. Two of the three played out of position and did not miss a beat. Callie Half Pint Harris played right side and teamed up with a future teammate of hers from Bland County Tinley Worley. Tinley was the 1A Libero of the year for VHSL.

Β Β Β  The two of them will be a great combo in the fall!!! Callie continued to play at a high level throughout the whole match.
Brooke Webb also was out of position but did not blink an eye and played lights out!!! She was able to shut down the offense of the other team with some great blocks!!!

Β Β  Her play lead to the coaches from Abingdon and Central to pick her as MVP!!! The last senior we had playing was Laiken Burnett. This game meant a lot to all these players but with Laiken this was a chance for her to finish her career on the floor and not in street clothes. She broke her hand halfway through her senior year and was cleared last week to play. She played great and even shared her story with the gym after the game was over!!!

And for our two coaches they had a blast bring five schools together to play a great game and to glorify our Lord and Savior on the court!! I also enjoyed reffing this game and just loved watching these great athletes play the game they love!!!!”

We will let Marion catch his breath and then we will see πŸ‘€ if we have everything as it should be.

This Just In : Alyssa Ervin is in the starting lineup today versus Mars Hill !

#Paladins

Furman University Sophomore and former Lady πŸ‘© Cavalier, Alyssa Ervin was in the starting lineup today and she wasted no time in taking advantage of the new found opportunities !

Twenty one seconds into the contest Ervin drilled a straight away 3-pointer and at the 8:00 remaining mark she added an offensive rebound and put back basket 🧺! Two minutes played and the score became Ervin 5, Mars Hill 0.

Mars Hill is a D2 School and Furman should secure a comfortable victory over the visitors in a game where both teams start the day at 4-6.

The game is being televised by ESPN+ for those who have the service.

Furman University leads 22-2 late in the first quarter.

Joshua 24:15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

Final

Wednesday Night πŸŒ™ Hoops with Elijah Cox and his Wildcats teammatesΒ  host Virginia Southern University. Our Cavalier is in the starting lineup tonight !! Saved by the Bell πŸ””: The Cavalier College Years!

FloCollege has the game tonight and while not everyone has two extra hours to spare, I do and will do my best to describe the efforts from our oldest College Hoopster..

Wildcats trail 11-6 at 15:57, clock ⏰ stopped for injury..

Randolph enters the night πŸŒ™ at 3-5. Cox is in his Junior season and his second one in Lynchburg.

Three point swish from Cox ties πŸ‘” the game at 11-11. Cox enters the night averaging 10.0 points per game and has seen an increase in minutes played as of late.

For those who aren’t familiar with Randolph College, its a D3 program that is located in Lynchburg, Virginia and competes in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. The home Gymnasium is small, with a capacity of 400 but can get loud.

Wildcats leading 22-20 @ Media TO (9:59).

If you are a fan of offense, this is your kind of a game ! Both teams running πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ up and down, hoisting plenty of 3’s.

Here for the evening so feel free to check back in later.

At the break, Wildcats leading 38-37 and Cox has 5 points, 1 rebound and 1 assist across 14 minutes of play ▢️.

Back from the break at 6pm sharp, 8pm in Virginia.

Why is Cox such a relevant piece of the Anthony Barnes story ? No one knows how long Coach Barnes will remain at Carroll County High School or how many players will move on to play at the next level but Cox will always be the first to play under Barnes on The Hill and then move on to do the same at College.

Cox has needed to retool his game at the collegiate level because 6’5 is massive in High School 🏫 but not so much in College. Going from playing with your back to the basket 🧺 to playing on the wing has been a challenge but so far so good.

Under 12:00 Media TO, Wildcats leading 58-57. Just a heads-up about FloCollege – they leave their πŸŽ€πŸŽ™πŸŽ€ hot πŸ”₯ during the breaks so you will hear plenty of background conversation.

Cox just drained another 3-Ball at 10:00 to spark a mini run πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ, lead now 69-61

13-4 run πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ across 3 minutes = 71/61!!

Shout out to the Family πŸ‘ͺ

SVU hits consecutive 3’s, lead down to four and Wildcats call TO at 6:48

SVU extends its run πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ to 14-0 and Wildcats call πŸ“ž another TO at 5:06

Elijah picked up his 4th foul at 6:19 and didn’t return until 1:39. Cats down 86-82.

Entering game now has 0:53.3 left at the home team trails 90 -85. Cats 🐈 will need to foul down the stretch.

Southern Virginia University will head back up the road to B-Vista with a 95-87 victory over Randolph College.

Cox finished up with 25 minutes played, 8 points, 1 board and 1 assist πŸ‘
