Stuart – Zari Cushman exploded for 13 second half points for the Lady π© Cavaliers at Patrick County Tuesday night but the Cougars held on for a 36-32 victory.
Cushman scored 10 of her game high points in the third quarter as Carroll County turned a 16-9 deficit into a 26-25 lead with 6:00 left to play.
Patrick County rallied late in the game to earn the hard fought victory, leaving CCMS Head Coach Kris Richardson with dualing thoughts about the efforts he received from his team.
” We continue to play hard but we just cant seem to turn it into wins,” said Richardson. ” We were down 6 most of the game before we tied it up with around 3 minutes left. Too many mental mistakes late in the game along with shooting 6-21 from the free throw line. We look to continue to improve.”
Cushman had plenty of company in the scoring column as six other Lady Cavaliers scored at least two points. Kierra Robinson was next with five points, Briley McGhee netted four while both Jenna Bowman and Natalie Dalton added three each. Both Maddie Carico and Macy Lineberry finished up with 2 points.
The team will return to action π¬ on Wednesday at Scott Memorial Middle School in Wytheville.

I will admit to the fact that when Kris Richardson sent me the upcoming schedule for the Boys π¦ and Girls π§ Middle School season, I did not perform a deep dive into the information.
Now as we enter week #4 and are preparing for Games #12 tonight, I want to take a minute to applaud EVERYONE involved in the process π.
Once again, we are set to play games on three consecutive days. Where do we start in regards to our appreciation for this level of commitment???
The School π« Administration has to be stop β #1. If there are games being played, home or away, someone is on the clock β°. Ticket π takers, score keepers and Concession Stand workers will also fall in this category.

The two coaching staffs – Darian Brown and Assistant Coach Reitzel for the Boys and Kris Richardson & Assistant Coach Alley for the Girls + Mr Martin. We need to add the Cheer Coach to the list here as well. I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting the Coach yet but hope to at some point.
Next up has to be the players and the Cheerleaders. Roughly 40-45 Student – Athletes have to be prepared to bring it, ALOT.
π© and π¨, when we discuss the Parents, you have to add that the start times are considerably earlier than most games so the after work rush is a bit more intense at this level. 4:30 & 5:30 can get a bit tricky…
Last two on the list has to be the Siblings and the Coaches spouses.
We can only hope that they are understanding about how much time is being spent in a Gymnasium. Dinner schedules get upended and things can get frantic.
Mrs Brown and Mrs Richardson, God Bless both of you for sharing π your Husbands with us.

So, going full circle π΅, if you wonder why Beth Bouldin and I will do our very best again tonight to capture some of this, that’s a pretty long list of folks that believe that its Important.
End of 1st – Knights 16, Panthers 13…
Bankhead has made two more 3’s but from normal range.

Happy to get the lengthy story to our friend, David Broyles at The Carroll News!! Fun write β, being able to include positivity about sooooo many different Cavaliers.
Rumor has it, that David is closing in on his 2nd try at retirement from the Newspaper π°…. pulling for him to accomplish it this time !
Duke University Women’s Basketball π returns to the court on Thursday night against the University of South Florida in Tampa but we will keep busy until then.
Have a great evening !!
Simply a Magical weekend in the Land of Cavaliers, one that might stand the test of time !
