Katie did play in the game but didn’t score any points. Still proud of another former Lady Cavalier !!!

We are closing in on our 41st Wedding π Anniversary and the main thing that works for us is Lin understanding my passion for helping others β€, whenever possible.
Furman University is facing the favorite in the Southern Conference ( Chattanooga) and on the road so we knew it would be an uphill climb. The Paladins trailed 31 – 12 before closing the first half on a 5-0 run to make it 31-17.

Working πͺ with Kristy Jones has been an absolute pleasure and getting to help West Long at the same time is a Bonus!
Wrestling will get its own post π« later but wanted to sneak in the picturesπ· early.
Furman University battles back and wins the 3rd quarter, 18-16. Cut the deficit to 40-30 at one point and trail by 12 after three(47-35).
The shots are not falling today for our Lady Cavalier which means dig deep and find other ways to help your team.

Chattanooga plays suffocating defense from start to finish, holding our Ladies to under 30% from the floor for the game.

Had to give Lin some space because she is about the Duke University Men’s program in the manner I am about the Football team and Women’s Basketball team.

More Saved by the Bell π: The Cavalier College Years coverage and it comes with a sigh of relief. Elijah Cox had been starting at Randolph College most of the season but his name was absent last time out, leaving me worried that something was wrong.

Great news in that Cox was back out there representing The Hill !

Whether its Ervin, Cox, Katie Lam or Bryce and Brayden Smoot, all five are former Cavalier playing at the next level. All five represented Carroll County High School π« in a positive manner and I do my best to show each of them that I still care about their future.
With that said, I have no inside information from the Colleges or Coaches as the season plays out. Just doing my best to show that we still see π them !!

Speaking of Miss Lam,

Her game will take place during our final βοΈ and I will circle π΅ back with some notes π

The family πͺ tree π³ of Lady Cavaliers is shown above and while the Kris Richardson led Middle School team is already dreaming about next year, Hailey Cushman and her JV team opened the road doubleheader in Dublin Friday night with yet another ” W”.
The margin of victory was a wide one as the Lady Cavaliers finished up with a 56-33 score. The only damper to the effort was a fourth quarter ankle injury that we will pray π involves a speedy recovery.
The team has suffered just one setback this season and will look to continue to build for the future next week ( Monday night at 5:30 pm) when Cave Spring charges The Hill.

Next up : The thoughts of Coach Mayo and the effort he received from our Lady Cavaliers.
” During our game last night we show some signs if becoming the team we can be. We got off to a sluggish start with Pulaski jumping out to a early double figure lead..then we set into the game and had the lead cut to 8 points in the 2nd quarter with possession of the ball and miss a couple of shots and Pulaski scored, taking the lead back up to double figures by halftime. In the second half Pulaski jump back out to a big lead. We struggle to make some shots against the zone. We compete for the whole game. We have a big week with 3 games next week. “
Pulaski County stared the game fast, applying pressure on the Lady Cavaliers from the get-go and as Coach mentioned, CCHS trailed by double figures before scoring their first points of the game.
Wow, would it have been easy to just lower your heads but what this group lacks in Basketball experience, they make up for it in toughness.
For those who are new to the game of Girls Basketball at Carroll County High School, its the Family πͺ in many ways.
Coach Mayo and a handful of others, including Ron Cochran, poured the foundation and built the House that is Lady π© Cavaliers Basketball. The top level of success, highlightd by the Back 2 Back State Championships, was not a case of overnight success. Coach earned a spot in the Carroll County High School Hall of Fame before moving on to find success at a few other High Schools. The victory total sits in the vicinity of 500 now and we are fortunate that he has returned in hopes of rebuilding the program.
We mentioned Family, Ron Cochran had a daughter (one of five Kiddos ) named Brandi (Cochran – Mitchell now). You cannot make a list of people who have worked non-stop for the good of the program and not have this former Hoops πin the Top 3. AAU leader and a lengthy run as Varsity Assistant Coach before adding possibly the most significant title, the one as Proud Mama of CC Mitchell.
Shelia Harris played for Coach Mayo back in the day and now supports her youngest daughter, Half Pint, from the bleachers.
Patti Goins is doing double duty as proud Mother π© of current Lady Cavalier, Raylee Goins and as Mom to another former star π β Assistant Coach, Kayla Nester.
Ms Whitaker is still playing a large role with the team as she has been for what seems like decades now.
My own personal description of Coach is someone that I wish our paths could cross on a more frequent basis. Coach is a basketball purist and as I type this on my way to Maples π Pavillion, he knows what the building means to the game that we both Love.
The βοΈββοΈ is about to land in Phoenix so I will wrap this up by typing this. Mayo didn’t win last night, might nor win on Monday night but don’t bet against him with folks like Cushman, Richardson and Cochran – Mitchell working with our youth !
In Mayo, We Trust….

Psalm 113:3 From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the Lord’s name is to be praised.

Tomorrow afternoon I will have an opportunity to watch a Basketball π game in the only venue on the West Coast that I haven’t visited over the years. Maples π Pavillion is home to the Stanford University Cardinal and #2 All-Time winningest Coach in Women’s Basketball.

Tara VanDerveer is now retired and Geno recently moved into the top spot overall but the program is still in great shape and tough to beat at Maples. They are 9-1 in front of their home fans.
Today is a get to Palo Alto, California day but I get to keep plugging along and as always, look forward to seeing what Kristy Jones sends in on the Wrestling team !!
β Coach Mayo was kind enough to check-in with his thoughts on his game last night up in Dublin.
Have yourself a Blessed Day π
