VHSL Second Team All Region 3D – Midfielder

Callie has been our rock in the midfield for our team on offense and defense. On offense she has been our playmaker she was our leading goal scorer and led the team in assists.

    She has been responsible for 73% of our offense this season, whether it was scoring or assisting. Out of the 44 goals we scored as a team this season, Callie finished with being a part of 32 of them, either scoring or assisting. Callie scored 22 goals with 3 hat tricks and had 11 assists.

  There were 8 games where she scored more than 1 goal and 3 games where she had more than 1 assist. Out of our 12 wins for the season Callie scored or assisted the game winning goal in 11 of the wins. The only game she did not have the game winning goal or assist was the game that Floyd forfeited and we did not play. Callie was one of our captains and did a great just being a leader on and off of the field.

  She finished her career 2nd all time in program history for career assists with (45) and finished 4th all time in program history for career goals with (48).

Savannah Swecker
(Senior)

1st Team All Three Rivers District – Forward


VHSL 2nd Team All Region 3D – Forward

Savannah was a key part of our offense this season. We really used her speed a lot up top. Her hard work and determination also helped her be such a huge part of our offense. She finished as the second leading scorer on our team again this season.

   Savannah scored 10 goals with 2 game winners and had 3 assists along with 1 game winning assist. She really stepped up for us this season on the field and off of the field. Savannah was one of our captains and did a great job of leading by example in practice and games. On the field, she has grown so much as a player. This kid has only been playing soccer since her sophomore year, but you would have never known that based on how she plays. She has learned the game so much and did a great job of knowing when she needed to stay up or when she needed to drop into our midfield to help defensively.

    There were some games we went into more defensive minded, and Savannah was always ready to drop in defensively if we needed her too. She always has a very positive and upbeat attitude, and it definitely rubbed off on all of those around her, which made a huge impact on our team. She really stepped up for us, especially during the second half of the season, scoring 8 of her goals during that time.

So, Kevin Costner, Tim Robbins, and Susan Sarandon came to the Bull City and changed our lives forever. The year was 1988, and the movie 🎬 was Bull Durham.

At the time, we had a single A baseball team that was only known for having a Bull out behind the wall 🧱 that read hit me and win a steak.

The movie became somewhat popular in the baseball ⚾️ world, and now we have the stadium 🏟 that Kevin Costner built in downtown Durham !

Now to the Softball part of this story !

AUSL softball made a HUGE leap this year as the league moved away from having one city hosting all of the games to having six local teams playing games at parks near them. Durham, North Carolina landed one of the six spots, and the Carolina Blaze were born.

Duke University has a moderately nice softball facility ( remember that Duke has only played the game for 9 years), and affordability had to play into the decision of Durham getting one of the six teams.

Marketing the team as Carolina was much needed because it makes it a regional team. Hence, the Carolina Panthers.

This weekend, the league is branching out, and the games are getting played over at the AAA Durham Bulls stadium 🏟!

Travis Leath and family / friends secured tickets 🎟 for the three days and are kind enough to take us along for part of the ride.

Jeremy Puckett is a serious soccer dude, so it’s no surprise that our #2 in Boys Soccer knows the sport !

Team to root for second – Brazil 🇧🇷

” I’d say France or Spain wins the whole thing, but who knows, maybe it’s our year.”

Myself, it’s Canada 🇨🇦 as my sentimental second pick, all day long. In fact, I hope to be watching 👀 them play from Nova Scotia fairly soon. Why not say USA as long as they are still alive ?

We will see 👀 if others in our Soccer ⚽️ community have a thought about it later….

The funds generated will be used to help fund Travel soccer ⚽️ expenses.
