In a game that I have always called ” Rest Area Leap Frog 🐸”, I will add thoughts about today at each available Rest Area along the route.

Stop ✋#1 – Radford area(MM 108)…. Starting out with the Who, What, Where, Why , When line of questions….

Who : Britt Berrier just graduated 🎓 from Carroll County High School and is preparing to start college as a Student Athlete with the sport being Baseball. While at CCHS he played under the guidance of Kevin DeHaven and in his final season, Casey Burcham.

Where : Charlottesville, Virginia or as I call it, Hoosville. Our youngest of five graduated 🎓 from UVA so its near and dear to us.

When : Today, beginning at 3pm, with the first pitch set for 6pm. Weather permitting has to be added.

What : Virginia Baseball Coaches Association All-Star 🌟 game in which the top players from each of the six classes are invited to showcase their skills.

Why : in regards to this one, my quest is to gather up enough information throughout the day to create a story for Allen Worrell to run in The Carroll News. The story is about a young man 👨, who I don’t personally know, that wore our colors across four years and did so well enough that he was invited to UVA.

Ideally, we will get a quote from both of his head Coaches and maybe even Father and Son. It’s a Big Day for a Cavalier and the goal is to properly frame it up for him!

Funny thing happened on the way to the second Rest Area….Coach Burcham received an email 📧 from the VBCA saying that the game has been postponed due to the Weather forecast and a decision will be made later in regards to rescheduling.

Coach / Athletic Director Kevin DeHaven took the time to offer his thoughts on this impressive young Man.

” Britt is a very knowledge young man of the game of baseball. He notices players swings and knows what pitches will work for our pitchers. But more importantly he is a GREAT young man. He goes out of his way to make teammates, even the young ones feel as they are part of the team. I will miss him!”

As we search for our forty folks / business to join us, I am happy to report that we have had eight people step up on Day 1!

This will be a quick process that we are hoping to wrap up by the end of the month. Once again, thank you to Hagen Giles and Olde Mill Golf Resort for teaming up with us on this one !

The triangle 🔺️ that OneofUs.Care is founded on consists of three things, Kindness, Volunteering and Bartering, with the goal of creating things that don’t already exist. Bartering is the one we will focus on today.

The glaring need in regards to High School Athletics is our Track. Patrick County High School is in the process of upgrading their facility which will leave our School 🏫 as the only one in the area with an asphalt surface. The reality is that the bag of cash 💸 needed is beyond anything that I can help create, it has to come from a higher source.

  Things brings us to the next biggest thing that Head Coach Shawn Montgomery and Assistant Coach Jon Delp need to help keep our Track and Field program pointed in the right direction, a new High Jump area. The cost of this is $15,000.00 and with the  assistance of Tammy Quesenberry, Chuck Thompson, Samantha Reed, Hagen Giles out at Olde Mill Golf Resort ⛳, Kevin DeHaven and The Carroll News we will raise the $15,000.00 through Bartering.

  I am so sure that this can work for both the High Jump area and other similar costs for other ventures that we will be guaranteeing half of the amount – $7,500.00. Tammy Quesenberry will focus on the other half, with the Carroll County High School Athletic Association helping her side.

  We are looking for roughly 40 people from here in our Community who would be interested in joining us in this project and here’s a list of what they can choose from in return :

Write a check for $100.00 ( to Carroll County High School) and in return you will receive both a Good Feeling and a round of Golf and Cart at Olde Mill Golf Resort.

Write ✍ a check for $150.00 and you will receive those two things ➕ a copy of the Basketball 🏀 Book created after Carroll County won 🏆 back 2 back State Titles.

Write a check ✔ for $250.00 and you will receive those three things ➕ getting a space the size of a business card in the full page ad that will run 🏃‍♂️ in The Carroll News. The ad will be acknowledging OneofUs.Care, Olde Mill Golf Resort, the Carroll County Athletic Association and all that choose to play a role in helping the Team move this forward.

Brenden Fariss just finished up at the State Track and Field meet after qualifying in the High Jump for Carroll County High School. I was able to spend time with him in Lynchburg and it was then that I realized that he was having to travel down to Mount Airy to practice.

  Bartering is an Answer that I have used across a lifetime and I think its a viable solution here and not just for the High Jump !

Britt Berrier is set to wear the Carroll County High School colors one final time as the recent Graduate has been selected to represent Head Coach Casey Burcham’s program one final time. The game itself will begin at 6:00 pm on The Grounds at the University of Virginia.

Getting selected to any All-Star game is an honor but this one tops the charts because players were chosen from all Six classifications in the Commonwealth.

Virginia Baseball Coaches Association (VBCA) is an up and coming group designed to give a voice to Coaches across the Old Dominion, regardless of the size of their school. The annual Showcase Day is the centerpiece of their efforts.

Berrier will be representing the West squad after being a team leader across four seasons, while playing for both Kevin DeHaven and Burcham. The 2024-2025 team, the first under Burcham, set a school record for wins and Berrier became just the third Cavalier to reach the 100 Base Hit Club earlier this season.

Berrier was also voted as the Baseball Athlete of the Year in the Best of Preps Awards for the extended area that includes five Counties and two States. This came in addition to being named the Three Rivers District Player of the Year.

The ultimate goal for any sports teams at Carroll County High School is to move the needle in regards to the level of visibility for the program. Having Berrier selected to play in a game of this magnitude is yet another step 🚶‍♂️down the Yellow Brick Road for the Cavalier Baseball program.
