Shawn Montgomery returned to the cross-country course Wednesday afternoon, this time up in Daleville.
Once again, all four of our teams were in action 🎬 and another large field. Both the Varsity Boys 👦 and the Middle School Boys 👦 finished up in 11th place.

Raylee Goins falls into a unique category of throwback student athlete as the Carroll County High School junior both plays and excels in each of the three seasons of high school sports.
Whether it is lacing them up for Cindy Edwards in the fall, Howard Mayo in the winter, or Rick Nester in the spring, Miss Goins has game that she happily shares with her coaches, teammates and fans on The Hill.
It wasn’t that long ago that high school athletes were visible in all three sports. Both boys and girls were prone to compete year-round. Then travel ball came along, which in turn made playing each sport a year around challenge.
Kayla Goins ( Nester ) was a similar ball player at Carroll County High School before taking her love of basketball over to Ferrum College. From 2010 to 2014, she helped lead the Lady Panthers in a manner that led to some banners being hung in the gym.
Just over a decade later, Patti and Scotty have yet another opportunity to watch one of their children compete wearing the school colors, ALOT. There might need to be a color coded calendar on the refrigerator to enable them to keep up with where they need to go on a given night, but nothing trumps the pleasure of watching 👀 your pride and joy do the things she enjoys doing.

Life was simpler back when that’s for sure. Sadly, there is no place where that is more true than the world of sports. Nowadays, the new world 🌎 look at athletics has reached às far down to include the pee-wee level.

There is no doubt at all that I am grateful to be nearing the home stretch of life now because things are changing in a drastic manner. It started with 24/7 coverage from ESPN, took a turn for the worse when Sports Talk radio 📻 reached its next level, and when you added legalized gambling and social media, you have a full fledged circus 🎪.
Millions and sometimes billions of dollars 💸 are changing hands on a daily basis. We can pay an MLB player $400 million, but we can not afford the Pulaski team and the rest of the Appalachian League teams to remain part of minor league baseball ???
Hot takes, police 🚔 blotters, and people being paid by the truck 🚚 load to get you mad about something. Youth officials are coming under attack, literally under attack. The WNBA right now is going through its own circus, and it’s not helping the sport of basketball in any way, shape, or form.

Yes, I am just a dinosaur 🦕 who is swimming 🏊♀️ upstream, trying hard to shield 🛡 some of our youth by providing a safe place to say things like – this is little Johnny, and he is a baseball pitcher. His dad is a police officer, and his mom works down at the central office.
Blind support for folks who work for a living and are trying their best to raise their children in the best way they can is the mission. The world 🌎 is full of people like the ones I just described, and they deserve as safe of a place as possible to make it work.
