Over the seven years out here in the Islands, a typical Friday night would include reporting on the neighboring Friday Harbor High School football team. Orcas Island didn’t have enough players to compete in football, so a ferry boat ride deeper into the San Juan Islands was the remedy.
Following 11 hours of flights and picking up the rental car, I drove south from Vancouver, British Columbia, and noticed some stadium lights on in Blaine. It turns out that it is a 4:00 pm kickoff so that the Student Athletes from Friday Harbor can catch the last Ferry home tonight.
FHHS is 6-2, and this is their regular season finale
Blaine enters the night at 3-6. A nice diversion, albeit a chili one ! There are no visiting bleachers here, but stadium type stuff on the home side.
Let’s see how this one plays out…

Friday Harbor would appear to have 18-20 dressed players tonight, so we will certainly see multiple players going both ways.
12:00 on the game clock….
FHHS – 4 play scoring drive in just under 2:00 of game time. PAT blocked, 6-0 @ 10:13 (1).
Blaine – the home team answers back just as quickly, including two deep passes. PAT wide left, 6-6 at 8:25 (1)
Blaine recovers the squib kickoff and starts at the FH35. 34 yard pass on 1st play and 1 yard run on the second play. Only 4:12 off the clock, and we’ve had 3 TDs, 2-point attempts, fails 12-6.
FH – 1 play TD drive covers 45 yards…7:09 still on the clock, 2-pointer fails….12/12
20 – 12 at 6:10 (1)
At 2:15 (1), we have our sixth touchdown ! FH lines up for the point after attempt… 20 – 20… are the offenses this potent or is defense optional ????
Blaine starts this drive on their own one so if a fourth score is coming, it will be a LONG field.
4 : 36 pm – end of the 1st quarter, 20-20. This prorated out to a final of 80 – 80….
Breaking News : We have a defensive stop ✋️ and a punt !!! FH has the ball at midfield..
FH needed an actual drive 🚗 to punch it in at 4 :43. Once again, Blaine blocks 🚫 the PAT, 26 – 20 Wolverines
0:12.1 left in the first half, Blaine facing 4th and 7 in the red zone… pass complete down to 1, will they add 1 second back on ??? It appears so, one last play….Friday Harbor stuffs the run 🏃♀️
5:02 PST – 1st quarter had 6 TDs, 2nd quarter had 6 total points…..
