S. Carter’s Perspective
I’m back in Lynchburg now having started my summer job. I’m bummed that I can’t be back in the valley doing the tour with Dad and Rebecca but I have to work on my thesis and continue my photography business. I really enjoyed my three day stint on the circuit and met wonderful people. From the beginning I’ve felt this was a great idea and appreciated my dad inviting me to work on this with him. When Jerry Carter promotes something he does it right! I appreciated his confidence in my ability, though I think I’ve surpassed his expectations, to design some great pieces for the campaign. I would like the record to show that I was the one who started the blog! I’m glad he’s found an outlet for all of his excitement and a way to show the world just what it is that is so great about the Valley League.
My experience as part of the traveling core of the promotion was memorable. I honestly can’t say that I expected to feel like such a welcomed part of each community. We fit right in among the Valley faithful. I was proud to be a part of what I consider to be an all-American summer pastime which promotes good sportsmanship, athleticism and community ties. I like that families host players who come from all around the country and have the opportunity to share a part of their lives for this short time. Our families player from last season is getting married in July and I was invited to take their wedding photographs!
I am glad to have been able to meet some of you and to join my family in what I’m sure we’ll all remember for a long time to come!

Central High School – Coach Jerry Walters & The Falcons Family Tree- Pics 1ST

After spending a couple of hours with Mr. John Galle of the Shenandoah Valley Herald in Woodstock I made the two mile drive over to Central High School. The Lady Falcons were playing Broadway and one thing you can always count on at Central is the chance to visit with some folks that will make you feel right at home.
Tonight was no different, except the opportunity to trade stories with none other than Valley Coaching Legend Jerry Walters. On our site, Jerry is also known as Jeff’s Dad, but for tonight, we will call him Coach. Coach spent 34 years working the sidelines at Central until his retirement following the 2004-2005 campaign. While I have known Coach for a few years, it wasn’t until Thursday night that I was able to spend what I would call one on one plus time.
Sabrena Carter Deal is our oldest daughter and the creator of our Around the Valley Logo. She has three degrees now, two of which came from Liberty University.

Rob Sisk also graduated from Liberty University and is as close to a fourth son as one can get. Rob designed our original OneofUs.Care logo six years ago !

The site that is shown here is still active and goes by OneofUs.Care’s Laurel Fork Coconut π₯₯ Telegraph. The pieces above are from that site, the original one that we created back almost 20 years ago. It still holds a treasure chest of memories, and that is why we still pay the storage bill for it.
We keep it active by adding photos that stand alone without needing a story attached. But if scroll far enough back you will find tons of early stories about the Valley Baseball League and Alan Knight and his Lady Panthers of both volleyball and softball !
Preserving as much of our history as possible is one of the reasons why we are working on book #6 !
