Friday Night πŸŒ™ thoughts from Lynchburg, ahead of Corrie Delp and the Long Jump portion of the State Track πŸ‘£ and Field meet. With Kelsey Plum and her LA Sparks as background noise.

Thankfully for Carroll County Junior Corrie Delp, her main event should get in ahead of the potential weather. Either way, it promises to be less suffocating than the heat and humidity combo from Friday afternoon.

The Schedule πŸ“…

The early guess for the first of the three attempts for Delp is 10am(ish). Class 3 will follow Class 4.

Friday was 100 Meters Day…
Brenden Fariss and Corrie Delp

Tomorrow morning will close the curtain on the 2024-2025 Carroll County High School year. Its only fitting that our lone Regional Champion gets the honor πŸŽ– of closing the show !

Day 1 of 2 at the State Track πŸ‘£ and Field meet is in the Books πŸ“š! Now there is just one Cavalier left to compete this Spring as Regional Champion Corrie Delp prepares for the Long Jump competition on Saturday morning πŸŒ„ at Liberty University.

Lynchburg – Brenden Fariss capped off a highly competitive second season on Varsity Track πŸ‘£ and Field Saturday afternoon at Liberty University by participating in the Class 3 High Jump.

Fariss started his Track πŸ‘£ and Field career as an 8th grader on the Middle School team coached by Shawn Montgomery and Jon Delp. Year three in the business ended with the Sophomore winning the Three Rivers District crown πŸ‘‘ and qualifying for State on the same day.

” Brenden is a well rounded athlete,” said Jon Delp. ” He would be a perfect candidate for a decathlon if we held those in high school. One day he just decided to try the Long Jump and he looked like a natural.”

Fariss competed but did not qualify for the finals in his event but was soaking up the atmosphere at the event. With Class 3 and 4 competing at the same time, the sheer number of Athletes is breathtaking.

” I wasn’t able to jump as well as I would have liked today,” said Fariss. ” But I am happy to have been able to reach this level.”

Corrie Delp ran in the 100 meter dash after having qualified  in the final spot at the Regional meet. The Long Jump is her bread 🍞 and butter 🧈 event, but getting to double dip was a little bonus for the Junior. Delp missed out on making it to the finals set for Saturday, the bright side of that being in won’t pull focus from the Long Jump trials.

Delp is three of three in regards to making it to State in the Long Jump but has yet to advance to the finals. That could very well change tomorrow as she is now jumping a full foot longer than last year.

Saturday morning at 9:30 will be the final time a Carroll County High School Student Athlete competes in a VHSL sanctioned event in the 2024 – 2025 season.

The end of the Carroll County High School 2024-2025 Sports season begins in a few minutes with Brenden Fariss and Corrie Delp on the center stage Liberty University!

This post πŸ“« will be a day long one and then it will be reduced to a story that will fit into the Carroll News later.

It’s quite an accomplishment for a Student Athlete to reach the highest stage and the goal over the next two days will be to capture as much of the event through the eyes πŸ‘€ of both Fariss and Delp as well as Shawn Montgomery and Assistant Coach Jon Delp.

Fariss qualified in the High Jump the day of the District meet at Floyd County High School. The day was a double scoop of joy as the Cavalier also won πŸ†the District Championship that day as well. His event will be right out of the gate today and in a matter of minutes, it will be over.

Our Coaches : Shawn Montgomery and Jon Delp

Here on our site, today will be a Track πŸ‘£ and Field ONLY type of day. Anything else that comes up will take a back seat πŸ’Ί until tonight.

Fariss in action 🎬

Corrie Delp is back competing in two events this season as the Regional Champion in the Long Jump snuck in the final spot in the 100 Meters at the last possible point, last week in Christiansburg.

For those of you not as familiar with Track and Field, today is both the Class 3 and Class 4 State Meet. Liberty University will be filled with some of the fastest and strongest πŸ’ͺ Student Athletes from across the Commonwealth. In the Field events, each athlete will receive three attempts in their sport in hopes of qualifying for the Finals.

On the track πŸ‘£ side, its a one and done with the same goal of qualifying for the finals. Schools 🏫 earn points for each athlete that places in the Top Nine after the finals.

Two years ago, then Senior, Elijah Smith reached the finals in his event and finished 10th in the State. One spot out of earning points for Carroll County High School.

Let’s look at some goals ahead of this afternoon. First, that both of our Student Athletes enjoy their moments in the Sun 🌞 (Temps in the High 80’s) and then that they perform to the best of their abilities.

For the Coaches, its my personal goal that Carroll County scores points between now and the end of Saturday afternoon.

Delp is primed to compete at the highest level and is jumping at her career best. Her latest mark of 17-7.5, 1/4 short of the School record.

More to follow !!! Much, Much more.

The tempature is flirting with 90Β° as the gates opened at 11am. One of the pics above shows this years design on the T-shirt πŸ‘• and then our two Athletes listed on the back.

Coaches meeting starts at 11:30 am

Side Note πŸ“ – its HOT πŸ”₯ here..

Mr Fariss and Coach Delp !

26 Class 3 Boys, starting with 5’11. Each athlete gets three attempts. Fariss faulted on attempt #1.

Farris faulted in his second attempt but will have one more shot at clearing 5’11.

Fariss had his best form of the day in his third and final attempt but unfortunately he clipped the bar on the way down with his ankle. Our Sophomore has completed his stay at Liberty University but love the fact that he will be staying with the traveling team until the end of the day tomorrow.

Next up will be Corrie Delp in the 100 Meter trials. Roughly 2pm – ish.
