One more look back at the evening that was on the Hill !

With this Ring 💍 I ……..

One never knows about the quality of an event, game, match until its over. Last night 🌙 it was safe to assume that there would be Emotion in the Air as the Class of 2022-2023 returned home 🏡 for one more moment. Cordy (Chicago), Bella (East Tennessee), Ashton (Radford), Lauren (UVA-Wise) all returned from various distance to join up with Kaylee and Jaelyn.

The group of Six had it a little easier then the four young Ladies still wearing their Cavalier jerseys. Alyssa, Katie, Madison and Sarah had to both embrace the moment and immediately prepare to play an incredibly balanced Tiger 🐅 team.

Matching sets of acknowledgment for 10 young Ladies and their Staff to treasure forever !

Allen Worrell will have a Game Story available at the Carroll News so we can just highlight some moments from the 60-56 victory over Honaker.

The Cavaliers trailed twice in the game at 0-2 and later at 42-43. Let’s begin with the 42-43 score near the end of the third quarter. CCHS was trying to run down the clock ⏰ before taking a final shot just before the Buzzer. Honaker was determined to force a player other than Ervin to take the final shot, double teaming the Senior. Ervin just continued to step 🚶‍♂️ back and eventually launched from a distance that would have made Steph Curry blush. The ball found its way to the bottom of the basket 🧺 after the horn sounded to give Carroll County the lead back at 45-43.

Another sequence that stood out took place earlier in the third quarter. The Tigers 🐅 opened the second half on a 9-3 run 🏃‍♂️ to tie the score at 35-35. Katie Lam connects on one of her two made 3-pointers ahead of Ervin getting fouled on a drive to the basket. Ervin misses the Free Throw but grabs her own rebound to complete a four point possession. That seven point spurt was needed as the Tigers 🐅 poured in eight straight to briefly take their only lead of the second half.

Honaker trailed 59-56 after Lam converted her second free throw attempt with 0:18.6 remaining. The Tigers were looking for a game tying 3-pointer but a defensive shift forced a travel call ahead of a made two pointer.

The box 📦 score will show that Ervin carried the offensive load but the Cavaliers played solid team defense throughout 👏 and it really paid off in that last possession.

Ervin would be fouled once more and the first made free throw made it 60-56 but the second attempt was waived off due to a lane violation. That point would have tied the School scoring record but the first one sealed a hard fought victory of a talented team.

Both Varsity squads will head into the Christmas 🎄 break at 5-0. Not sure if that has ever happened ?

Thanks so much to all of the folks that contributed to our efforts last night and enjoy the Allen Worrell Game story !

The games have gone final, the Rings 💍 have been distributed and we have coverage from Marion Harris, Kris Richardson, Kevin Burress, Allen Worrell and yours truly. Everything will end up in this one Post 📫 as the night 🌙 plays out. Our next stop is out in Utah so getting everything together will take a bit so let’s start with Allen showing us the Bling !

First up – Kris Richardson sends in some photos 📷 from the Ring 💍 Ceremony

Last year’s on the Left & This year on the Right.

Thank You Kris !

Next up – Allen Worrell made the effort to sneak me to photos 📷 of his photos 📷 earlier and he will send more of his “leftovers” tomorrow. With his quality of camera 📷 his unused ones making it in our direction is like Christmas 🎄 Morning 🌄

Thank You Allen and Miss Easter !

My page of mini-notes 📝 breaking down the contest that will be transcribed before its all over. A gamer of sorts will accompany the coverage as Allen being in the Gym = Carroll News having a Game Story.

The first thing that we received from Marion Harris was snapshot copies of the score book 📖. The one that showed Alyssa Ervin with 43 of the 60 points!

_________________________

Thank You once again to Kevin Burress 🙏 for covering the JV game and I encourage you to fall back and post 📫 or two to take a look see.

3-Pointers (8) – Ervin 5, Lam 2, Alderman 1

11 Two point shots made - Ervin10, Burnett 1

Not sure if the Varsity Girls and Varsity Boys Basketball teams have even been 5-0 at the same time ???

Thank You Brandi for the Box Score !

I’m being told Ervin finished 1 point shy of the School 🏫 scoring record with her latest effort. Three steals shy of what would have been a historic Triple Double.

Other than a 10-0 run early (0-2 to 10-2), the teams traded bursts throughout the contest. Honaker answered everything until the very end…

if not for the difference in Classification (CCHS – 3, Honaker 1) this level of match-up would certainly have been a post season preview.

The Cavaliers (5-0) will be on a break until after Christmas 🎄, returning to travel down to Charleston, South Carolina for a Holiday event. The team has spent the two previous brakes competing down in the Smokey Mountains.

Things are still going down in Charlotte but the Big Night on the Hill is getting ready to start and Kevin Burress has the Girls JV Game (Running for the Night)

Someone let the Grinch in the Gym ?!

Both of the Cavalier squads won nail bighters up at Honaker and will look to close out season sweeps. Stay tuned if you can’t make it to the Hill and enjoy yourself if you are already there !

Let’s play !

After 1 it’s tied up 11 to 11. Kayla Young leads the Cavs in scoring with 7. Laynie-Jo and Faith each have 2.

***** Down in Charlotte, Western Kentucky has rallied from a 28-0 deficit to force OT @ 35-35!

__________________________________

Honaker leads 20 to 15 at the half. Cavs struggling to get their offense going. Kayla leads scoring with 9 Laynie has 4 and Faith has 2. Cavs are perfect from the charity stripe making 5 of 5

___________________________

6:12 – The craziness is over in Charlotte as Western Kentucky has stormed back in OT to win 38-35.

___________________________

Kevin checks in after the 3rd quarter of the JV Game:

34 to 20 Honaker after 3. Offense is still a struggle for the Cavs.

Kevin checks in one Final Time :

Cavs split with Honaker. Honaker wins 44 to 32.

Kayla Young leads the scoring for the Cavs with 12 followed by Laynie-Jo with 9 Faith Clontz with 8 and Natalie Burress with 3. Cavs finish with 7 of 8 from the free throw line

Thank You Kevin Burress for keeping us in the know !

Still to come – Rings & Varsity !

Marion Harris and Allen Worrell are both in the Gymnasium for the Ceremony.

Allen took the time to sneak us a couple of quick picks !

‘Da Bling in all of its Glory

Miss Easter !

TRYING to watch the Varsity game from my Phone 📱 while trying to navigate getting to St.George, Utah ( next stop).

Carroll County took the opening quarter 15-11 and the second quarter 17-15 = Halftime lead of 32-26.

 More to follow !

One thing worth noting is that the Cavaliers suffered through a 2nd quarter stretch of going 0-6 from the line, allowing the Tigers 🐅 to hang close.

Swept the Season series against Honaker but both were down to the wire victories with tonight’s final being 60-56 !

Honaker High 11 15 17 13 – 56

Carroll County 15 17 13 15 – 60

We will start a wrap up post later tonight !

Going all the way back to 1970 for a Classic Lilly Tomlin skit ahead of tomorrow night 🌙

One ringy dingy, two 💍 💍ringy dingy is the opening to a Classic skit that one would have to be as old as Greg Talley or myself to fully appreciate. But its what comes to mind 24 hours ahead of the 2022-2023 Ring 💍 Ceremony tomorrow night 🌙 for our Lady 👩 Cavaliers Basketball 🏀 team.

The ceremony will take place between the Junior Varsity and Varsity games against Honaker High School. It’s not that often that a High School Student Athlete gets to celebrate a State Championship, let alone getting to do it twice. Carroll County is now in its 7th decade of existence and the School has captured a total of three team State titles. That fact helps put into perspective just how much accomplishment it has been for this group of Hoopsters ! Ten of the 13 young Ladies will have a matching set of Rings 💍 after tomorrow night. Four of that group dare to think about making a third run 🏃‍♂️ to Richmond.

How impressive is this group ? So much so that I think someone should write ✍ a Book 📖 documenting their story ! Oh wait, someone has done that….

Congratulations 👏👏👏 to the group of Coaches & players who brought so much Community Pride to so many people ! Enjoy your Victory Lap #2, you’ve earned it !
