Big Time Soccer ⚽️ Match is on tap for tonight at Luray Middle School 🏫 as the Page County Rec League Hokies take on the Cavaliers at 5:30 pm!

The Hokie  team is coached by Chris Carter, and the roster is full of 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders.

Twelve players dot the roster with the makeup ➗️ between boys (7) and girls (5). One of the five girls 👧 is one of our nine grandchildren, Maddie.

The group plays in two different seasons of the year, so this is the seventh time that Chris has coached this particular group of youngsters.

8 years old and in the 3rd grade

Math 🧮 is her favorite subject in school and recently landed on the AB Honor Roll. Proud moment recently when Maddie had an essay published with the subject being Martin Luther King and kindness.

The drive from Luray to Beckley will be 3 & 1/2 hours and will begin shortly after the end of the second 20 minute half..

The we love ❤️ Maddie Fan Club will include her mother 👩 Christina,  Great Uncle Wayne, grandfather, and two sisters, Ana(12) and Melody (11). I guess we like her head coach as well!

Tonight is the first match of the spring season, and we are excited about being in attendance !

Ana is home 🏡 from school 🏫 and ready to cheer on Maddie ! Seven grader, so the game will be taking place at her school 🏫
Melody

Meanwhile, over in Beckley, our Golden Bears 🐻 Baseball team got off to a rather rough start against Midway University.

Diamonds 💎 are a Girls Best Friend : A tragic reminder that Life is too short and we should embrace it everyday because there are no guarantees.

The photo 📷 above is of the four young ladies that graduated 🎓 from Page County High School 🏫 at the State Championship game at Radford University.

.A few days ago we lost one of these impressive young Ladies in a tragic automobile accident.

Obituary clip from the Page Valley News

Born and raised within shouting distance of the High School in nearby Stanley, Virginia, Cassie was a key part of the back 2 back Lady Panthers State Championship teams and left an impression on the community, both on and off the Diamond.

Thoughts and Prayers to her Family and friends 🙏.

Diamonds 💎 are a Girls Best Friend : Roy Cardin Senior and his 30 years of Volunteer work with the youth of Shenandoah, Virginia help create the 40+ year run of Lady Panthers Softball program!

Celebrating the Life of Roy Cardin Senior with Brian “Big Daddy” Hendrick, Alan Knight and Linda Carter

Roy Cardin Sr was a throwback to days gone by, very much like Moonlight Graham was described in Field of Dreams. Roy gave of himself for just over three full decades and was the mentor / pitching Coach for the program for ever and a day.

We are dedicating the Page County third of our Book 📖 to the memory of Roy, who was famous for his Secret Sauce for his fund raising Bar – B – Que Chicken 🐔, his kind heart, caring voice and never take a dime for a lesson mindset.

There’s a youth ballpark in the town of Shenandoah that will forever have Roy’s name on it. Field #2 will remind every child learning the game today, that the facility is named after a Kind, Kind Man that touched the lives of thousands.

The opportunity to see 👀 our Son, Chris coach up one of his youth Soccer teams did the heart ❤ good !

The next few days will be spent up here in Page County as we gather information about the Lady 👩 Panthers Softball program. The bonus being time with four of our nine Grandchildren, one of our five Children and one of four In-Laws !

Hoping that the Powder Puff game is going well and Fun is in abundance !!

There was one other significant thing about Saturday, September 13th as it capped the chase for parts of the story in Diamonds 💎 are a Girls Best Friend

Velvet Leonard Photo 📷 of Dakota Walls Racing 🏎 , both the current Lady Cavaliers and the returning Alumni.

The effort to gather up all the information available to me and start the transcribing has officially begun. The Alumni game event was the ideal cap for telling a story about how Cavalier Park came to be, from the beginning to the current day facility.

Cavalier Park 2025

There is still a bit of circling back to check with some folks about what they would like to submit and hopefully we will pick up a few more items here in the next few days.

The interactions with Eddie Vaughn, Brad Nester,  Darrin Mathews and Justin Quesenberry added layers to an already neat story. Cheyenne Strickland Marinus provided such a great look into the mindset of what it takes to be a Student Athlete at both the High School and Collegiate level.

Looking forward to seeing what the next few months hold in regards to the story !
