Carroll Wellness Center was full of smiles and joy as the Nester Family hosted their season ending gathering under one of the Pavillions on Wednesday evening.

Rick, Donna, Adam, and Kayla Nester ➕️ the three little ones that have been given credit for softening Papa up, were gracious hosts across the 90 minutes of celebration.

Principal Chuck Thompson joined the group, and while it is difficult to ever bat 1,000% with the planning for a large group, the Lady Cavaliers flirted with perfect attendance. Assistant Coach Travis Leath and recent graduate 🎓, Laiken Burnett, were two of the notable absentees. Bree Campbell was also unavailable due to another commitment.

Terry Warf stepped up to assist Coach Nester with his presentations, and the duo teased the gathering with a Guardian of the Galaxy style Dance 💃 off but a game of rock 🪨   , paper 📃, scissors ✂️ settled the question about which of the six seniors went home with the team banner… [Madison Coleman 👑]

If you add the fact that Addie Greene was gathering the items for Miss Burnett in addition to her own awards, the family car 🚗 was loaded down a bit.

The opportunity to share a word or two with so many members of the Softball family was certainly a treat. Six members of the team were participating in their final official act as a part of the program and they will be missed !

Kelsey was leading the WNBA in scoring for the first time in her career when her untimely injury took place. She has missed so many games that she doesn’t appear on the scoring list but would still be second right now behind Aja Wilson. It will be great to have her back out there!

Myranda Burress, Allison Dalton, and Velvet Leonard will take over as the Moms in the Softball room that are starting their senior year journey. Myranda might can lean on her good friend Velvet as this will be the first of three while Laynie-Jo will conclude the process for the Leonard family.

While I’m sure that the Dads in the equation will be feeling more than a few things as well, I believe that it is the Moms 👩 who are wondering how this happened…..

For the six players and families that experienced the emotional roller coaster in 2025 – 2026, it will be one final opportunity to share the same space as a group.

A couple of days ago, I was watching 👀 the movie ” Draft Day ” with Kevin Costner and Company. The term ” On the Clock ⏰️” was used quite a bit, and it’s fitting for Mr DeHaven as of yesterday afternoon.

The Carroll County golf ⛳️ team practiced yesterday afternoon out in my neighborhood at Olde Mill Golf ⛳️ Resort. It is the official mark of the beginning of a 9-month rodeo that is High School Athletics.

In a lifetime of dealing with Athletic Directors at both the high school and the college level for over five decades, DeHaven is as easy of like as I have found. From the school 🏫 and displaying leadership at every level is an accomplishment that can be a great challenge.

37 years have passed since a freshman attended his first class on The Hill, and First Class has been the manner that DeHaven conducted himself. Now, as we enter the next year of the AD stage of the journey, one would think that the DeHaven family is ready for the next 270 days.

The unofficial number of teams that fall under the jurisdiction of DeHaven is 27. What is the biggest difference between the AD’S in college and high school ? STAFF and MONEY 💰. College has both and high schools do the best that they can with what they have.

The best example might be the buy-out currently taking place at the University of Michigan. We will be fortunate enough to have DeHaven for decades to come, but I’m fairly certain that when our guy steps aside, he won’t get $100 million dollars and golfing privileges as a parting gift.

Bluefield College became Bluefield University five years ago, and I’m very familiar with the Rams 🐏 , at least from the standpoint of the baseball ⚾️ program. We ( West Virginia Tech University ) compete with our neighbors to the South every season.

DeHaven is far from the only person to further his education as a Ram. Over the years, a number of Cavaliers turned Rams have found success in the border town.

The movie 🎬 turned out to be a bit too different for my taste, but that is the beauty of the membership. If a movie isn’t what you would enjoy, it’s okay to tap out and wait for the next one. In the meantime, how about the pipeline from Carroll County up to Bluefield University…

While Ethan Richardson is not competing in Athletics at Bluefield, the recent graduate of CCHS is flourishing as a Ram !

Ethan is a second-generation Ram as his mother, Paula Nester – Richardson, played a mean game of basketball 🏀 back in her day !

Jason Stockner found a great deal of success on the hardwood back in the late 1990’s with the point total finishing North of 1,000 points !

Marion Harris met Shelia Bunn on the Bluefield campus and managed to both graduate 🎓 and meet the love ❤️ of his life.
