Weekend Soccer on tap down in Winston – Salem for the U-19 VA Surge !

Sitting in a ball room that has been converted into a Basketball π Arena with 1,100 cozy seats.
When the chase of the November schedule π came to life last month, this is the one that we had circled with a Sharpe. Yes, there was Paris, France π«π· and two in Las Vegas, but the palace known as America’s Resort is a special, special place ! We were fortunate enough to celebrate our 30th Anniversary here just over a decade ago and we look for reasons to make the drive π through the Alleghany Highlands to get here.

Seth Greer brings his team on to Tommy Thompson Field with a sterling 8-2 mark and Northside sits at 6-4. This is the #4-#5 match-up and the winner π moves on to face the #1 – Magna Vista unless they are upset by #8 Abingdon.
What Greer and Company have accomplished in a very short period of time has been nothing short of spectacular ! The fresh air of the success wavers across the entire County !!

Captains Meeting – Photo π· Credit : Beth Bouldin.
Floyd County came to town Thursday night and both the Boys and Girls teams raced out to lightning π© fast starts and never looked back. The Cavalier teams will now look to catch their breath after playing 11 times in the opening 3 weeks.
Kris Richardson and his Girls opened the double header against the visiting πππ squad and Coach takes us inside the night π.
” Tough loss again tonight. We could have given up after they jumped up 12-0. We hung tough the rest of the 1st half and never gave up. Second half jitters got to us late in the 3rd quarter. After multiple turnovers, they started to pull away. I’m proud of their resilience. I keep starting different lineups to see if we can get a spark.
We will keep fighting and hopefully learn from our mistakes. It also hurts that Zari Cushman has missed all 3 games this week with concussion symptoms. Praying for a speedy recovery for her.”
The final score was 39-16 (20-5 at the half) and the bonus quarter went to Carroll County by a score of 9-4.
Tuesday evening is the next time that CCMS will return to action π¬ as the Cavaliers head over to Patrick County to face the Cougars.

Boys π¦ Game : Darian Brown coaches 15 hard nosed future Cavaliers and they play with a great deal of energy for all 24 minutes across a game. Gritty, determined, passionate, defensive minded are all ways one could describe the 6-5 Cavaliers. What the team lacks in size, they simply out hustle their opponent, but they struggled Thursday night versus the mass of the Buffaloes.
54-19 was the final score as Floyd County netted 27 points in each of the halves. The fifth quarter played to a 9-9 ,draw to end the evening.

I’m still hoping π to add some more information on the Boys game and get the thoughts of Coach Brown later today.

Coach Brown checks in with his thoughts on the night π,
” Those guys were big! Iβm a tall guy and never did I think I would be looking up to players while coaching middle school. Their starting 5 was bigger than our varsity but our guys didnβt back down. We battled the whole game and thatβs what Iβm most proud of. I think they ran away with it when the Harman kid drained 3 threes in the third. Itβs moments like those that we have to get better at preventing.
We are going to bounce back next week and try to go 3-0 through another tough week of games.”
Thank You Coaches !

The Cavaliers just completed an impressive 8-2 season that earned Seth Greer and Company a home playoff game against #5 seeded Northside Vikings.

All five of our College Basketball players have the night off but its the calm before the storm as they’re will be six games over the weekend !

A talented 3-0 WVU team will be waiting for the Blue Devils tonight.

Psalm 68:19 Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah.

Have yourself a Blessed Day π
Note π – still looking for the Box Score from SWCC – GTCC Men’s Basketball π last night π

At the end of regulation in the Georgia State – Furman game, Alyssa Ervin had held her own against the Panthers. Six points scored and a handful of rebounds, assists and even a block. But Coach Pierre Curtis had her back out there for the final 5:00.
Ervin worked herself open three times in the opening 80 seconds but none of the three efforts found the bottom of the net. It would have been oh so easy to shy away from a fourth attempt but that’s not the Lady Cavalier turned Paladin mindset. Not even a little.
2:53 – Scored a lay-up
2:11 – won a 50-50 Ball that gave Furman possession.
0:52.6 – fouled on a lay-up, swished both free throws to tie the game at 85-85.
0:42.2 – see above line !!!
0:11.0 – Fouled again, popped the net for a fifth straight time before missing one. Furman led 90-87 and held on for a thrilling 90-89 victory on ESPN+..
The totals for the night π were 13 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assist and a blocked π« shot.
But the telling number is the number of times that the Sophomore had the ball in her hands β at the end of the game and how comfortable she looked doing it !
The young Lady π©, who was discovered by Marion Harris, coached up by Kris Richardson and then Ed Robtison before leading Marc Motley’s team to three straight State Tournament appearances.
Yes, that version of Miss Ervin was back on display Thursday night ! The other night at Vanderbilt University, Ervin scored 16 points by making 4 of 9 from deep. Tonight she scored 13 points by stepping up and leading a team.
It didn’t hurt that Clare Coyle was on her team as the tough as nails Sophomore from Jacksonville finished with 22 points and 17 rebounds.
Campbell is next up with the game beginning at 7pm on Sunday evening.
