Ryan Phillips in the center, Jabin Talley to the left and Cody Reece to the right, are all members of the Coaching staff under the guidance of Anthony Barnes in 2025-2026.
Two nights π ago we were able to share the Junior Varsity game score at Fort Chiswell High School because Mr Greg Talley passed it along.
It wasn’t until this morning that I realized the victory was the initial one in the Laurel Fork based coaching Tree planted by Paul Nester. Ryan Phillips nows fits into the same category as the following Paul Nester relatives :
Little Brother, Rick Nester
Son – In – Law, Kris Richardson
Nephew – Adam Nester
Niece ( In – Law ) – Kayla Goins Nester
Grandson – Ryan Phillips

The Fort – The Good News for Head Coach Darian Brown was that after four straight games lost to the weather, our Cavaliers were able to play a game on Wednesday at The Fort.
The Bad News was the team was a little rusty from the two week layoff, falling 32-23 against the Pioneers in the next to the last game of the season.
The defensive effort in the first half kept Carroll County in the contest as the teams headed to the lockeroom tied at 10 -10 but Fort was able to pull away over the final 12 minutes of play.
Five Cavaliers landed in the scoring column, led by Gibson Barr with 9 points and Jaxon Stanovcak with 6. Sam Johnson dropped four points while both Remi Millaway and Caleb Hill added a basket π§Ί
Back to the good news side of things, one of the four lost games will be made up tonight as the Cavaliers will have one more opportunity to gain some valuable playing time at Blacksburg.
Coach Brown took the time to share his thoughts on his team and the night π…
” Tonight was tough being we havenβt played a game since the 4th of this month. I told my guys thereβs an old saying βitβs hard to beat a good team 3 timesβ and that showed tonight. Fort is a great team and they are well coached. I think the weather has really hurt our momentum that we were building and that also showed tonight. At the end of the day we canβt make excuses and I told my guys that. All we can do is learn from it and move on.
Tomorrow we finish our season with Blacksburg and Iβm hoping that we knocked all the dust off tonight. Tomorrow will be our version of senior day for our 8th graders. I talked to our guys tonight postgame about it and we are starting our 4 8th graders tomorrow night. Iβm proud of how far theyβve come and the leadership theyβve shown this year. Our younger guys have learned a lot from them not only about basketball but how to be respectful young men.
No matter the outcome tomorrow night I have had the best year with this group of kids. I also want to shoutout my assistant coach Garrett Reitzel for all of his help and the countless hours heβs put in to these kids development. Go Cavs!”
Thank You Coach, for both taking the time at the end of a very long day to pen π your thoughts and for giving of yourself to this group of young Cavaliers!
