Stuart, Virginia – To say that the trip over to Patrick County High School hadn’t gone as Cindy Edwards had hoped would be an understatement. The program was without Junior Varsity Head Coach Nikki Heflin and three players as they took the floor against the Cougars.

Edwards joined Shelia Harris on the bench during the second set but couldn’t prevent the 2-0 sweep. Fast Forward to the start of the Varsity match and the team is playing without two starters as both Laiken Burnett and Ali Wright were unavailable.

Somehow, Carroll County battled to within 19-18 in the opening set before the home team closed out on a 6-0 run for a 25-18 victory.

In the second set Carroll County led 6-3 after a Corrie Delp Kill but PCHS scored 14 of the next 17 points to pull ahead 17-9. The highlight during the deciding run was Senior Callie Harris recorded her 1,000 career Dig, becoming just the second Lady Cavalier to reach that mark.

Patrick County closed out the second set at 25-16. Going back to being swept in The Hill earlier this season, Carroll County had dropped all five sets against a team led by eight Seniors. Que the opportunity to start looking ahead to the next match and making post match dinner plans.

Maddie Hyatt played the match of her season and the Junior was becoming more and more comfortable as the night played out. Fellow Junior, Faith Nicholson spent the entire match wearing the Libero jersey and she too played at a high level throughout the night.

The two Juniors teamed up to fill the gap created by the injured Burnett and it freed up Harris to take the big swings usually taken by Wright.

Trailing 6-5, Harris landed three Kills during a 5-0 run, led by Brooke Webb at the service line. The next 5-0 run had Nicholson at the service line and was sparked by a Hyatt Kill and a block from Hyatt and Raylee Goins.

Webb followed two more Harris Kills with three of her own and just like that, Carroll County avoided the sweep, 25-16.

Arizona Thompson, Corrie Delp and Clara DeHaven all had their moments in the victory but Carroll County still trailed 2-1.

Set #4 was tied at 2 thru 7 and again 10-14. Looking like it would go that way until the end, CCHS strung together Kills from Webb, Harris, Delp and Webb again to make it 18-14. At 20-19, Nicholson headed to the service line and finished with an Ace during the 5-0 run 🏃‍♂️ and just like that it was 2-2. Nice comeback and all but the fifth set would be a race to 15, where anything can happen.

Carroll County led 10-7 and just when it was okay to dream, the Cougars scored the next 5 points. Harris answered with both a Kill and an Ace to tie 👔 it at 13-13.

Goins made it match point with a Kill and the historical comeback ended when Goins and Webb teaming up for the clinching point with a picture perfect block.

The match was the first of the final six Three Rivers District matches for Carroll County. The team made the turn at 2-4 and were starring at four of the six being on the road. The difference between 3-4 and 2-5 heading up to Glenvar on Tuesday night is the same difference between the start of the match Thursday night and the end of it.

12-6 / 3-4 with five matches left to play.

For the second time in a matter of Days, we have a Photo 📷 fit for a Carroll County time capsule as four of the seven Lady 👩 Cavaliers to record 1,000 Assists / Digs under the guidance of Head Coach Cindy Edwards…Welcome to the Club, Half Pint Harris!

Earlier this week we captured Lady Cavalier Girls  Soccer Royalty up at Bluefield, West Virginia.

Callie Harris entered the match at Patrick County needing 15 Digs to join her Big Sister, Adrienne Harris McGuire as the only members in the 1 000 Digs club. Earlier this season, fellow Senior Laiken Burnett became the fifth member of the 1000 Assists Club.

The Moment

The Lady Cavaliers were trailing 1-0 and 15-8 when the DIG was recorded and then Harris finished the point with a Kill!

Carroll County JV Volleyball squad was down three players and their Head Coach, Nikki Heflin Thursday night at Pulaski County High School. The scorebook will show that the Lady Cougars defeated our Lady Cavaliers 2-0(25-11, 25-16) but progress was made in the second set.

” I was pleased with how the players responded in the 2nd set,” said interm Head Coach Shelia Harris.
” They came out and played hard and never gave up.”

In the opening set Carroll County struggled out of the gate and quickly fell behind 17-5. The Ladies caught their breath after that, playing 8-6 the rest of the way. Highlights in the opening set included an Ace from Willow Barham, service winner from Aaliyah Hampton and a Kill from Paige Ogle.

Trailing 7-2 in the second set, Carroll County began to look more comfortable. The teams were tied at 9-9 after a Morgan Osborne Ace and pulled within 14-12 after a Hampton Ace. Ogle added both a Kill and an Ace during the rally, before the Cougars closed out the match on an 11-4 run 🏃‍♂️.

The team will be off until Tuesday night when they head up I-81 to Glenvar.

Get well soon, Coach Heflin 🙏 and Thank You Coach Harris…

Back amongst the Cows 🐄 and so much to share ! Let’s start with Middle School 🏫 Volleyball and their road victory over in Floyd County! I hear that they had an Excellent Bus 🚌 Driver in Jon Delp and they hit the ground running!!

Our Little Cavaliers ♥

From Head Coach Brittany Kinney !!

Tonight at Floyd:

We had the most fun and quickest night of volleyball tonight! Our match started at 4:30 and was over by 5:05.

Our girls were HYPE tonight and we were so happy for them! We came ready to play and you could tell the girls wanted this win bad.

Match 1: Our serving was amazing during this set. We are always excited to win that coin toss and get to serve first. Tonight we had some great plays on the floor. Laken led us in serving with (8) and 6 of those were aces! Briley was next in serving (7) and (3) of those were aces!! She has came a long way this season and has become someone we really depend on. Emma was next in serving with (4) and Mahala was right behind her with (3). We didn’t have very many errors this match; which is very impressive! We won 25-9.

Match 2: We started off in serve receive; which sometimes gets us in our heads a little bit. We recovered way quicker this match though. Briley led us in serving (7) and had 2 aces. Mahala was right behind her with 6 serves and 3 aces. Emma had 4 amazing serves this game with NO errors! Lily also served great with NO errors! Laynee, Peyton, and Kaebry all finished with 2 serves as well. Won: 25-14.

Overall, we had an amazing team win today. I didn’t get to sub as much as I wanted and Floyd didn’t want to play that third “fun/developmental” match. We are so proud of these girls. I know we are sad that their season is coming to an end.

Also—- please note that Kelly Holderfield is amazing. All of these detailed stats wouldn’t be possible without her. I’m forever grateful for her!!!

Thank You Coach and Congratulations 👏
