Match at Radford recap :

Our girls were pumped for their last game. I was a little nervous at first, we came out early with a few silly mistakes, but we were able to recover quickly. During our first match, Briley was our leading server with 8 serves! Laynee and Emma were tied with 5 serves each; Emma had an ace! Mahala also had 4 serves over with an ace! Peyton (7) and Emma (6) were our leading passers with the most passes closest to target. Briley had 8 great assists. Emma had 5 great hits with a kill! This match ended 25-22. Radford fought hard and had some good serves!

Match 2: We had really, really good energy to go into this match. The girls wanted this win…bad! Briley and Tihana led us in serves with 6 each; Briley had an ace! Emma had 5 serves as well with an ace! Mahala and Laynee also had some good serves for us and also each had an ace. We were having fun this match and you could tell because we were playing our best volleyball! Briley had 10 assists, Mahala had 5 hits with 1 kill, Emma (7) and Laken (6) had the most passes closest to the target! They were dancing and having the time of their lives after this game! I’m so proud of them.

Match 3: Our official last match as the 25-26 Middle School Volleyball team! Chloe had one ace and Emma led the team in serves with 4. Alexis had 10 passes that were closest to target. Kaebry and Jaylin both had two successful hits. Hadley had one successful hit.

Stay out of the Woods behind Hillsville Elementary School 🏫 because they are haunted and then some! Preparing the course for Saturday morning 🌄 as Boo Ridge 5K weekend has officially started.

Vickey Ritchie likes Halloween 🎃. The audience shouts back, ” How 🤔 much does she like it ?: The answer fills up a Box Truck 🚚!!

  While the event doesn’t officially start until 7:30 am on Saturday, the preparation begins as soon as the Elementary School closed on Thursday afternoon.

Four hours are blocked 🚫 off on Thursday (2-6 pm) and a full nine hours on Friday from 9am until 6pm. This much time is needed to strategicly place Spooky things throughout the 3.2 mile Trek.

Vickey is considering what life would be like if all of her tubs were full of truly haunted items. Each item would jump out of its container in a timely fashion and run out to the correct place on the course!!!!!

Until then, Vickey and her troop of volunteers 🙋‍♀️ will keep up the good fight and welcome others to join in the pre-fun!

Carroll County High School Volleyball 🏐 in one word : Homesick

Carroll County Lady Cavaliers Volleyball made it latest stop ✋ on its month long Commonwealth Tour Tuesday night at Glenvar High School. The scoreboard will tell you two things with the first being that the Highlanders swept the Cavaliers 3-0 (25-9, 25-20, 25-17) and secondly, the team is only halfway through its month away from The Hill.

Carroll County (12-7, 3-5) has four more matches left in the regular season but the next two are on the road. Thursday night is a bye for the team and then its off to both Floyd County on Tuesday and Radford on Thursday evening.

  The road trip now sits at 2-2 as the Lady Cavaliers swept the US-58 matches at Martinsville and Patrick County but the pair on I-81 ( James River and Glenvar).

Since they last player at home, the team has lost their floor leader Laiken Burnett to a hand ✋ injury and other players have lost time for various reasons. But Head Coach Cindy Edwards keeps moving forward with the next person up mindset.

Against the Highlanders, Carroll County looked a bit out of sorts in the opening set and the score reflected it as Glenvar rolled to a 25-9 victory.

Callie Harris and Faith Nicholson continue to split time at the Libero position. While no single person can easily replace the injured Burnett, a few of the underclassmen have certainly stepped up. Nicholson, Maddie Hyatt and in Salem, Alyssa Lawson had moments where she shined.

Brooke Webb held down the fort early in the second set before being joined by Ali Wright and Corrie Delp on Kills patrol. The Cavaliers kept Glenvar within sight before eventually falling, 25-20.

Flashback to last Thursday night in Stuart, when CCHS fell behind Patrick County 2-0 before storming back for a thrilling 3-2 victory. But while the Lady Cavaliers finished strong 💪, the Highlanders were able to close out the evening, 25-17.

Varsity now has one week off before heading over to Floyd next Tuesday night.

In the Junior Varsity match, Glenvar swept Nikki Heflin and her Lady Cavaliers, 2-0 (29-27, 25-12) but the Visitors pushed their host to the limit in the opening set.

” Our team played their best first set of the season, showing incredible effort and skill in a fiercely contested match,” said Heflin. ” It was a tough loss that took the wind out of their sails, and they were unable to recover their momentum in the second set”.
