In a life full of challenges, one Big one is not being from somewhere.. Today’s steps πŸšΆβ€β™‚οΈare going to be home grown !

We are getting ready to roll into our sixth year in the Village that we call home, Olde Mill. We love life in Olde Mill and often refer to it as our little Hamlet β™₯.

Olde Mill is a suburb of Laurel Fork and just like back on Waltons Mountain β›°, when we need to head to the Big City, its West to Hillsville or South to Mount Airy.

It’s okay that year six will begin without ” being ” from Carroll County. It’s simply a life long obstacle that traces back 62 years to my Father πŸ‘¨ being stationed in Lemoore, California. Little town with a Naval Base located just outside of Fresno.

Dad was sent to Virginia ( Tidewater) for the first time by my third Birthday πŸŽ‚, so the ties to California were pretty limited and since then its been a lifetime full of new locations. The first handful get pinned on the United States πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ Navy ( 11 schools 🏫 in 12 years), the next handful can be put towards trying hard to find ways to feed our Kids by going wherever there was an opportunity for work.

Category three falls under what I call having an expiration date on my forehead. My tendency is to wear folks out with my never being in a casual manner. There’s always an opportunity to make someone smile and lift their spirits with a random act of kindness πŸ’–.

Just a thought or two for some of the folks that have stumbled across our site over the past week. The idea πŸ’‘ is to create a “Safe ” place to visit and catch up on all of the wonderful events taking place in and around a place I like to call “The Hill “

With all of that said, let’s loop back to Carroll County by acknowledging that our Friend, Marion Harris had his first day of School 🏫 yesterday. Big Day for him but let’s switch to the Kiddo that I call Half Pint.

Here’s the list of things that Callie Harris has accomplished in the last 72+ hours. Getting her Dad ready for School has to be on the list but from there :

Played in the Fellowship of Christian ✝️ Athletes All-Star 🌟 game under the guidance of Cindy Edwards.

Performed on Saturday night πŸŒ™ under the guidance  of Patricia Lineberry
On Sunday, performed in a Church β›ͺ play
On Monday night, scored a career High of 21 points to lead the Howard Mayo coached Lady πŸ‘© Cavaliers to a victory !

Gotta get back to my steps πŸšΆβ€β™‚οΈ but that was a fun recap of a neat young Lady and her 72 hours !!

Carroll County High School 🏫 Girls πŸ‘§ Basketball πŸ€ kicks off the delayed Home schedule in style, sweeping Patrick Henry – Glade Springs on The Hill!

The Hill – Carroll County Junior Varsity improved to 2-0 on the season with an evening opening 48 – 16 victory over visiting Patrick Henry – Glade Springs Monday night.

Head Coach Howard Mayo sent his 2025 – 2026 version of the Lady πŸ‘© Cavaliers out on the floor in front of the home fans for the first time and they responded well on both ends of the court in their 67-49 victory.

Starting with the defensive side of the court, Carroll County limited their guests to just five points across the opening eight minutes. CCHS led 14-5 heading into the second quarter and this time it was the Lady Cavaliers offense that put on a show.

Callie Harris and CC Mitchell both finished the contest with career highs. Harris dropped 21 points and Mitchell was close behind with 18. To add to the impressive numbers, the team posted 23 points in the frame !

**** Where the story goes from here is I take any thoughts that both coaches have on the efforts  they received and if I’m lucky, someone will send in a pic or 2.

For the time being, the Lady Cavaliers put on a show for the home fans who waited patiently for the weather to allow games to be played !

Here is the first of 3 pieces to the puzzle !!

From our Junior Varsity Head Coach :

” We are so proud of the JV Lady Cavs tonight. They continue to improve each day and put in hard work. We talked a lot about finding our identity as a team this week and I think we are on the Path of getting there. We competed as a unit today and moved the ball really well. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for these ladies!

Here is the Easy Stats write up:

The Carroll County JV Girls delivered a commanding 48-17 victory over Patrick Henry at home, improving their perfect record to 2-0. This dominant performance showcased the team’s balanced offense and tenacious defense, as they controlled the game from the opening tip and never allowed their opponents to mount any serious threat.

Carroll County established their dominance early, with Kate Holderfield leading a first-quarter surge that put the team ahead 16-2. Holderfield opened the game with three consecutive two-point field goals, then capped off her stellar quarter with a three-pointer to give her 9 points in the opening frame. The team continued their offensive onslaught in the second quarter, extending their lead to 27-6 by halftime. Holderfield remained hot, adding 6 more points, while Madison Adkins contributed with a clutch three-pointer to help build the commanding advantage.

Kate Holderfield’s exceptional performance was the story of the night, as she finished with a game-high 28 points on outstanding 13-19 shooting from the field. Her consistent scoring throughout all four quarters kept Patrick Henry at bay and demonstrated her versatility as a scorer. Milli Parker provided excellent support with 11 points, including two three-pointers that helped stretch the lead at crucial moments. Hayden Heflin was highly efficient with 6 points on 3-4 shooting, while Madison Adkins added 3 points with her three-pointer in the second quarter.

The team’s depth and balanced rotation allowed multiple players to contribute meaningfully to this impressive victory. With strong defensive play limiting Patrick Henry to just 17 points and an explosive offensive display that saw them score in double digits in three of the four quarters, Carroll County continues to show why they remain undefeated and are building excellent momentum for the season ahead.”

Thank You Ma’am !!!!

Varsity Head Coach Howard Mayo checks βœ” in with his thoughts :

” We are excited about our performance tonight. We had 3 players in double figures along with another one who had 9 points. Each player had a positive impact on the game. Wheeler it be points,,rebounds, assist or steals. We had 15 assist which shows how well we shared the ball tonight . We are looking forward to practicing the next couple of days and getting better.”
