Carroll County JV Girls πŸ‘§ Basketball hold off visiting Cave Spring High School 35 – 34 Monday night on The Hill !

The Hill – Carroll County JV Girls Basketball improved to 7-1 on the season Monday night with a thrilling 35 – 34 victory over the Knights of Cave Spring.

Playing for the first time without leading scorer, Kate Holderfield, Head Coach Hailey Cushman and her Lady Cavaliers were going to have to play with the mindset of next Man Up and the team did just that. Holderfield is recovering from an ankle injury suffered late versus Pulaski County.

” The girls stepped up in a big way today. I’m so proud of them and the grit they showed tonight, ” said Cushman. “We told the ladies if they will believe in themselves the way we as the coaches believe in them we can accomplish great things. On to the next!”

Milli Parker stepped up in a big way, scoring the games first six poins (with a 1,2 and a 3-pointer) and finished the first quarter with nine of her team high 14.

Carroll County rebounded from a tough second quarter by doubling up on the visitors in the third quarter. The key possession came when Parker was fouled shooting a 3-pointer and made the first two shots before CCHS grabbed the offensive rebound and Hayden Heflin scored to complete a four point trip down the floor. The Lady Cavaliers led 22-20 at that point and held on to secure the victory.

Heflin ended the game in double figures with 11 points, including key πŸ”‘ buckets down the stretch.

The beauty of writing ✍ for oneself is getting to add a quote from a very proud Mother πŸ‘©!!

” The girls played amazing tonight!! My Hayden made 11 points!!!! She was on fire tonight, as were the other girls!! I am so proud of them all!!! They didn’t have Kate and they were all worried but they all stepped up! And what a game!! Proud of that win for sure!!”

The Line Score….

Cave Spring     JV…… 8  9.   6.  11 – 34

Carroll County JV…. 10Β  3Β  12. 10 – 35

Rylee Woodard and Maci Melton both added four points with Maeli Parker rounding out the scoring with two points.

Carroll County returns to the court Tuesday night at Floyd County High School.

Note πŸ“ on the scoring :

In the AI breakdown of the game, it gives Madison Adkins credit for one of the two made three pointers. But both the scorebook and my notes show both belonged to Milli.

Whether its a computer πŸ–₯ error or human error πŸ€”…..

Here we go….

First thing is after paying $5.00 for a bag of Chips and another $4.00 for a 12 ounce can of Soda here at the San Francisco Airport, let’s say Thank You to the Carroll County Athletic Association for providing folks with reasonably priced snacks and beverages !!!!

It’s a first, even for me. Providing coverage from the shadows of the Golden Gate Bridge…

So one day in the distant future, one of our current JV Lady Cavaliers will be able to say that someone who was in California cared enough about my game to write ✍ about it !!

Be nice, Take 2 : I was being chased down by Airport Security and wen he caught up with me ( we are both a little slow 🐌 a foot…… He said he only had one question he needed to ask me…In fear 😱 for a second, he asked his question ????

” Do you really know Marion Harris ???”

Hailey Cushman, her Assistant Coaches and their πŸ‘© Cavaliers.

Be Nice, Take #3

We see πŸ‘€ tonight as a double header but it should be viewed as a Triple Header to show appreciation for our Rossie Gravley led Carroll County Cheerleaders !!

I was able to have a great exchange with Mrs Gravley earlier today and I’m looking forward to the next one !

5:30 is tip time (2:30 out here ) so there should be plenty of time to report on the first half before we board the first of our two flights✈️. We will pick it back up when we land at LAX.

In no particular order, here are your Junior Varsity Lady Cavaliers……

We will pick this back up in a bit as the Security Guard πŸ’‚β€β™‚οΈ wants to know more about Marion Harris….

Look a Lin with the photo bomb πŸ’£

Carroll County calls πŸ“ž a TO at 3:07, trailing 17 – 10.

Heading to the half…

Cave Spring 17, Carroll County 13

Time to board the ✈️✈✈️ …

Will pick this up later.

Final update from the Plane, trailing 20 -16

As I was going to Airplane ✈ mode, we cut βœ‚οΈit to 20-18, not positive but I think that one was Miss Heflin

Four point possession as Milli Parker was fouled shooting a 3. Made two and then we scored n the rebound to take a 22-20 lead as they threaten to take my cellphone away.

  See you in LA…

Wheels down in Hollywood at 4:38 / 7:38 pm ! What did  I miss ?

Max Preps shows a narrow victory for our Lady πŸ‘© Cavaliers !!!!!

Carroll County High School 🏫 leads at the break !

Half Pint Harris with consecutive 3-pointers !!!, 26 – 20

End if 3rd !!!

Cave Spring High School earned a split in our double header after scoring 24 points in the final quarter.

Bree Campbell – Zendejas tied the game at 40-40 with two free throws and Harris tied it again at 42-42 at 2:20 before the Knights closed the game on a 9-2 run. Game was closer than the seven point margin shows as the Knights went 7 of 10 from the line once we needed to foul.

Where the story goes from here depends upon what information our Coaches choose to share once the dust settles. Plus any non – pics taken off my screen get added.

6:03 pm / 9:03 pm

Nice effort πŸ‘ from all 3 teams of Lady Cavaliers tonight on The Hill !!!

Answering a few questions about Isaiah Easter, Cavalier Basketball πŸ€ and the Carroll News before heading to the Airport.

Great capture of an impressive young Man πŸ‘¨ who I have watched go from an undersized Kid into the Leader that he is today.

Across myΒ  six years in Carroll County , I don’t know that I’ve spent more time around one Student Athlete than Isaiah Easter.

From the early days playing for Jason Stockner on the Junior Varsity Basketball team and I remember the day at the end of his Freshman season when Varsity Coach Anthony Barnes brought him up for the Cavaliers post season run.

That Spring, I remember him as a free spirited little Brother hanging out at Cavalier Park watching the youngest of his Big Sisters play Softball for Rick Nester. Kaylee Easter was an intense young Lady that helped lead Carroll County High School 🏫 to consecutive State Championships in Basketball and she played Softball with the same amount of determination.

This is young Isaiah Easter supporting me while I was supporting the Diamond πŸ’Ž Lady Cavaliers in 2023.

I watched Isaiah Easter play ▢️ a role in leading Carroll County High School to a spot in the State Tournament, alongside the Pic-6 of Seniors who had played together for ever and a day.

If this was Hollywood and I was just adding glitz to the storyline because I can, I would create a scene with Marion Harris talks Easter into giving football a try as he did with a seven year old Alyssa Ervin in regards to Basketball πŸ€. That second part is documented fact.

Enter a young Man who I have a boatload of Love and respect for, Mr Seth Greer. How much appreciation do I have for Greer ? I think we should get together a club of 31 people and we rotate days of bringing Seth his favorite flavor if Coffee β˜• and a Muffin every morning πŸŒ„ of every day for the Pride he has instilled back into our Community through his efforts as Varsity Football coach in just two years.

Greer has Easter as a wide out and defensive back his Junior season and during the off-season he also realized that Easter has the ” It ” factor and moved him to quarterback for his Senior year.

How did that turn out for Greer and Easter ? They did okay the writer says with a smile after they recorded the BEST season in recent history. Greer took no shortcuts and while he could have publicly complained about how empty the house was when he found it. It would have been justifiable for sure but wouldn’t have been helpful.

The last conversation I had with our friend, Allen Worrell before he retired from public life went like this…

Allen – When do we have to start considering Easter for the All-Time Mount Rushmore of Cavalier Male Athletes ?

My response – I guarantee you if he remains healthy, he will graduate πŸŽ“ with the single season scoring record for Basketball.

Over the years, we have connected to do live interviews during Volleyball 🏐 matches and the ease Easter speaks into a microphone 🎀 in front of a gym full of people is another great sign!

My favorite exchange between the Son of Vickie and Israel went like this ” Of all of the Easters, you are my favorite to which he responded, As I should be!”

Wonderful young Man we have the joy of watching πŸ‘€ on The Hill!!!

Now, let’s address the other two topics in regards to writing ✍.

It took a while but Allen and I built a great relationship and he used North of 250 of my stories over the years. Looking back at the State run πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ by Carroll County last year and you will see that Allen wrote the preview and jumped back in at the end with everything in between being stories that I penned for him.

My stories, including the one I’m working on right now, are available to use, reprint, run in a publication at no charge. I don’t write for bylines, fame or Facebook likes – I write for Parents, Coaches and Students

Feel free to use anything that I write ✍ with my only request is run it as it is.

Why is that so important ? Someone who has the power to change your thought process is a slippery slope and I will use the Facebook posting above as my example.

Wow, great graphics and undeniable stats but I have one serious issue with just one thing in the piece and I’m not a parent of any of the other 10 parents.

” Putting the Cavaliers on his back ” is what is called a Money πŸ’° Line. But its not my work so I accept that and move on.

How would I say the same thing ? Isaiah Easter is showing tremendous leadership skills for Anthony Barnes and his hard working Cavaliers πŸ’ͺ.

I welcome πŸ™ William Pence to run anything that I create for anyone who I create things for, as long as its left as is.

Wow, I have serious appreciation for Easter and Barnes but not at the expense of fellow Seniors or fellow starters on the team.

The other end of the spectrum is when I’m writing my Saved by the Bell πŸ””: The Cavalier College Years material. Its absolutely focused on just one player, whether its Alyssa Ervin or Elijah Cox for example. They are just one former Cavalier playing a game.

Got to get over to the Airport here in San Francisco, where waiting for my first ✈️ of the day. What will that look like? Breaking out the laptop πŸ’» and watching Hailey Cushman coach up her Junior Varsity team against Cave Spring…..

Read my efforts, don’t read my efforts but please don’t question the dedication to All- Things Cavalier.

See you shortly….

Israel and Vickie – Thank You πŸ™ for sharing your not so little Boy with us
