What does the ” Team Mom ” do when the team plays on the road ? I’m glad you asked….

We are in Columbus, Indiana, for a 48-hour window πŸͺŸ to play a 3 – game set against Indiana University – Columbus with two games today and one on Saturday before heading back to Beckley, West Virginia late tomorrow night.

Staying behind in order to handle things at both Cavalier Park and Tommy Thompson Field meant missing my ride over with the team. Hence, the Middle of the Night drive last night.

Arrived at the team hotel 🏨 at 8:30 a.m., knowing that our 35-member traveling party would need to eat six times across the two days being that it will be late on Saturday night when we pull back into campus.

Meal #1 – make sure that everyone has their breakfast voucher at Hilton Garden Inn, easy enough by comparison. At 10:00 the team departs for the ball park, making it time to go to the market.

Meal #2 – The between games, food consists of water πŸ’§, power aide, protein bars, apples 🍎, oranges 🍊 and bananas 🍌. You load all of that up and head to the Diamond πŸ’Ž.

Meal #3 – This one won’t take place until 7 to 8 pm and is the one that requires the most work. You have to find a restaurant that is willing to take 35 people when you  can’t give them a certain time. Tonight, the answer will be your neighborhood Applebee’s. Jason was a treat to deal with and I told him that I would give him 3 updates throughout the day.

The time is now 2 : 11, and we are heading into the top of the 7th inning down 6-2….. I see πŸ‘€ a shot at a 45-minute nap so I will pick this back up shortly.

2:59 pm – The Crimson Pride got to our bullpen in a big way in the bottom of the seventh, so game 1 is over early. It’s time to update the folks at the restaurant. It’s still a guessing game at this point, but at least it’s now an educated guess.

It’s time to look forward to meals 4, 5 & 6 tomorrow. Breakfast once again will be vouchers at the Hotel 🏨 with one difference in that our group will be checking out of the rooms before heading over to the park.

#5 will trigger a second trip to the grocery store to restock the goods. It is easier the second time around because if you use the same store, you know where everything is. Did not know that there were 7 different types of apples before today.

The sixth meal is quite possibly the toughest one. Here in a bit, a list will be created with three sub shops, and one will be chosen from it. Then, three menu items will be offered, and the players choose their dinner 🍽 from there. Getting the list to the chosen shop with a pick-up time in mind. The goal is for me to get the order picked up and brought to the park around the time the single game ends.

After the team meeting, the players will take their food and load up for the drive πŸš— home.

The weekend should end around 11pm when the players head back to their dorms after the final weekend road series of the season.

3:37 – meeting with the umpires

81Β°, 1st Pitch – 3: 40 p.m

4:24

5:06 – trailing 2-1, top of fifth in 7 inning game.

5:47 – Final Score, 2-1

Applebee’s knows to look for us 1 hour earlier and now it’s on to the ordering of  the subs

Let’s call πŸ“ž this one – The one about teamwork with a smidgen of looney tunes sprinkled in for good measure !

Third Rock πŸͺ¨ from the Sun 🌞 by Joe Diffie is playing in my head right now because the fun Diddy is about cause and effect.

The weather forecast for the weekend in Columbus, Indiana, changes our schedule from one game on Friday afternoon and two on Saturday to the reverse of that. What does that mean for me ? We (WVU-T) start playing at noon on Friday instead of 3pm, reducing the window πŸͺŸ by three hours.

None of that means anything to anyone but me. The next link in the chain ⛓️ comes just moments later when I receive two text messages at the same time. One from softball coach Rick Nester and the other from Athletic Director Kevin DeHaven.

Fort Chiswell High School 🏫 is going to be late arriving at Cavalier Park due to having to wait for a bus 🚌 driver. We need to start 30 minutes later today.

My first thought was, can we just go get them ?

The reality is that thirty minutes is the equivalent of the flying Big Boy πŸ‘¦ in the song 🎡.

The plan was pretty straightforward 45 minutes ago. Announce our festivities for Miss Brooke Webb on her special night and then the game. After the last out, Cross the Boulevard, meet the Radford Head Coach, go through her roster with her before heading upstairs for the opening ceremony. Announce the Girls πŸ‘§ Soccer ⚽️ match, head out to Indiana, and arrive by 3 pm. on Friday. Get back on Sunday in time to help Vickey Ritchie.

Nobody wants to live inside my head because of my level of commitment to things I believe in. Brooke Webb, Rick Nester, Adrienne Harris, Lawrence Nesselrodt, and Vickey Ritchie. Yes, I’m going to use her maiden name until her husband talks to me about our tennis 🎾 program….

The press box at Cavalier Park and the Hillsville Elementary School Gymnasium are my two favorite places in Carroll County by a wide margin.

But now, I need help because I just lost 30 minutes that I couldn’t afford to lose. Who can I get to help me check βœ”οΈ all of the boxes πŸ“¦ ????

Here’s what I needed – someone to get me in touch with the Radford Head Coach, and that person would be Marion Harris. Within 15 minutes of reaching out to Marion, I was on the phone with Pip Hughes, discussing how to correctly say her players’ names.

I needed to ask Mr DeHaven about getting a ride in his golf cart the second the softball game ended and get me across the Boulevard.

The next request went to Coach Nester – can you please πŸ™ have the girls play error-free and swing the bats efficiently in order to get the game played as quickly as possible. Coach said he would do his very best !

Brooke Webb is a very bright young lady, has a great sense of humor, and can play a mean game of both volleyball 🏐 and softball. I am looking forward to creating her memory on her special night, and that is protected as it happens first !

The biggest difference between announcing softball and soccer is that with softball, you are telling a story from start to finish. With soccer , 75% of what you do takes place in the opening 10 minutes that you are there. After that, it’s the live interview at the halftime break.

There’s a fine line between being a committed person and a person who needs to be committed. I walk that line more often than I would like, but those are the choices one makes.

The name is OneofUs.Care, not OneofUs.Care, when it’s convenient or easy.

Brooke Webb, Rick Nester, Adrienne Harris McGuire ( once is funny, twice would be mean), Lawrence Nesselrodt, and Vickey Ritchie.

On Sunday afternoon, my highlight will be listening to Vickey tell me about how much fun our Special Olympics Basketball Athletes had at their Saturday afternoon adventure with Track πŸ‘£ and Field !

” We’ll get by with a little help from our friends,” thank you, Sargent Peppers !

Thursday, April 16th is here, ready or not ! There are plenty of opportunities to cheer on our Cavaliers as we list them in our Morning πŸŒ„ Brew…

7 in all, 4 on The Hill, 3 on the road versus the Bobcats and The Fort…
Travis Osborne  and his Bible Verse of the Day :

Romans 16:24 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.

Howard Mayo and his Motovational Nugget of the Day :

Tonight will be a work on both sides of The Boulevard kind of an evening. The start at Cavalier Park, the middle at Tommy Thompson Field, and then the focus goes to Columbus, Indiana, for the West Virginia Tech University – IU – Columbus weekend baseball series. Hard to believe that the season will end a week from Saturday.

You now know what I know, and I hope you have a Blessed Day πŸ™Œ!
