Page County won three of three softball games this week by three different means. The victories were over Strasburg 1-0 in a pitcher’s duel, 14 – 11 over East Rock πͺ¨ in a back and forth offensive explosion, and finally, one that landed somewhere in between.
After dropping two games against defending State Champs π, Broadway and one to neighboring East Rock, the team is now back at .500 with a 3-3 mark.
April 15th at Madison County is the next time the Lady Panthers will take to the Diamond π.
The first time around for Coach Knight and Company against neighboring East Rock created the question of how many times in 45 years has PCHS been on the wrong end of a run rule shortened game ?
East Rock πͺ¨ scored early and often on its way to a lopsided 17-2 victory at Alan Knight Field just a few weeks ago. Yesterday proved to be a different story as the Lady Panthers jumped out to a big lead and held on for a thrilling 14-11 road victory.
The home team trimmed the lead to 12-11 with a big rally in the bottom of the sixth before Page County answered with two insurance runs πββοΈ in the seventh to secure its second victory of the week.
No rest, though, as Rappahannock High is the opponent today as Page County looks for a three game sweep of the week !
Earlier in the week, PCHS won a pitchers duel against Strasburg 1-0. The Lady Panthers only scratched out two hits against the Rams π but fortunately, one of them cleared the fence for the games only run !
Yes, Coach Dodson wins Basketball games at an alarming rate. Yes, Dodson is currently tied with Page County Softball Coach and close friend of mine, Alan Knight, with seven State Championships.
Yes, Dodson is a Page County High School Alum so that gives the Duo of Panthers grads a combined 14 VHSL titles.
Yes, Dodson is so cool that he gets to hang out with people like Dennis ” Preacherman ” Zimmerman.
Yes, Dodson took the time to write β the Book π Foreword for our book about Carroll County Girls Basketball, immediately following our dismantling his Trailblazers.
All of that makes me Proud to know him but it all takes a back seat πΊ to the fact that the Man has dedicated his ENTIRE adult life to those who face challenges!!!
Chris Dodson is the Northern version of our Vickey Ritchie, every day and all day. Except Chris is as tall as Vickey Ritchie is small. A picture of those two side by side would be PRICELESS.
The World π needs more people like Vickey Ritchie and Chris Dodson and know that I feel blessed to now both of them !
Meeting with Tiffanie Moore and her family πͺ last year was quite the experience for both Linda and I as we were able to sit and visit just before Tiff was set to enter Duke University for the health battle of a Lifetime.
Tracy and Tiffanie took turns telling adventouress stories about the bond the Father and Daughter created over the past 20 years. Tiff did ask that her story not be about her illness but about her life and that was easy enough to make happen.
Tiff and her story came to light to me as she was voted into the Carroll County High School Hall of Fame in the 2024 Ceremony. Coach Nester was giving me the rundown on the list of accomplishments that Moore had to her name by the time she reached her Mid-20’s.
Tiffanie Moore – Ferrum College
Dugspur to The Hill and then one year in Greensboro before heading over to nearby Ferrum College to finish up both her education and Softball career. While the trail leading up to Graduation π at College was truly impressive, Moore continued to find ways to challenge herself to live life at a level that few could ever dream about.
Moore started in the outfield at Ferrum for 99 of 106 games over her final three seasons while working on a degree in Criminal Justice. The Secret Service would be the next great adventure in a remarkable life and some of her colleagues were with her on Hall of Fame Night.
Alyssa Nunn and Lauren Alley backed up the pitching of Junior Emma Leath with consecutive Home Runs in the Season opener at Bassett.
What does it take to capture a State Crown π in Baseball or Softball ? While there is no proven number, I would like to think that number is four..Naturally, the roster contains roughly a dozen or so players during the season with the possibility of late season call ups . Coach Nester was quick to point out that all 15 players on the 2015 team contributed to the victory.
Four members of that team are currently in the Carroll County High School π« Hall of Fame. There’s the number four once again, helping validate the thought process a bit more.
The Carroll County team in 2023 was built for a Championship run, with eight Seniors on the team β the All-Time Wins and Strike Outs record holder inside the Circle.
Kaylee Easter and Lauren Alley were both starters on the Back 2 Back Championship teams in Girls Basketball. They both knew what it takes to be part of the last team standing and they were both leaders by example. Easter might be the posterchild for tenacious, regardless of the sport. Alley was the BIG STICK on the team and would be playing at UVA-Wise the following year.
Emma Leath threw every pitch during the season and gave the team a fighting chance if they could score a couple of runs. Macie Adkins was in right field and played the game with a certain style, as if she knew something you didn’t.
Nunn played the game with grace and power and saw good pitches with Alley in the lineup.
Rising Seniors in 2025-2026 were Freshman that season and Emma Harman was on the 2023 team in addition to the others listed already.

The 2023 team fell short of the Promise Land, dropping a heartbroken st Cavalier Park to Northside in the Regional semifinal and then watched the Vikings steamroll their way to the State Championship.
A great deal of coverage of 2023 β the following season after the 2015 title will be included…
