After a short break to support both Vickey Ritchie and Casey Burcham, it’s back to Star 🌟 City for the conclusion of our coverage of the D3 College World Series

This journey started with three days of coverage ( Thursday, Friday, and Saturday ), and then we hit pause ⏸️ in order to take care of some folks back on The Hill.

Closing in on 1st Pitch ! Covering Carroll County versus Abingdon baseball ⚾️ at 6 pm…. Cavs fall just short, 4-2 but we made sure the Falcons earned it.

Today’s Good Guy πŸ‘¦ Tip of the Cap goes to Patrick Smith ! One of our leaders / partners in our Special Olympics Basketball πŸ€ family !

Both were fun writes ✍️ and now it’s back to the sport of Softball !

Trine versus Redlands, first pitch slated for 11:00 a.m.

Results from Sunday….

Thank you to the Harris family for the ride from Wytheville to Abingdon and back. It was greatly appreciated !

Day #3 in Salem, and it’s a great day for Softball, but when isn’t it a great day for Softball ?

Linfield versus Simpson in an elimination game !

More 2 follow…..

Both clubs plate 2 runs πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ in the second inning

There was no doubt on the Linfield bomb to left field. It flirted with clearing the back wall at 300 feet.

Wildcats plate 1 in the top of the third, leading 3-2. [11:45]

Storm respond with one of their own in the bottom of the 3rd.

Love the flag !

The amount of energy being generated by the crowd is impressive ! It’s not about how many people, it’s about how much heart.

Halftime score 3-3 ( Mid 4th)

End 4th [12:14], Storm lead 4-3….once again, great game !

It was fitting that we would need extra innings to decide this one ! Everything about this one was great for the sport !

Game #4 of Day 2 at the D3 College World Series is getting ready to start ! Belhaven and Mount Union for the right to keep playing…

Closing in on the two greatest words in all of sports : Play Ball !

Game 3 went to the powerhouse of late…

The Blazers of Belhaven taking infield

The first pitch should be right at 7 pm

Purple Raiders ( Alliance, Ohio) versus the Blazers of Belhaven ( Jackson, Mississippi )

Top 3rd, still scoreless

Bottom 3rd, 0-0 (3 hits allowed total so far)

Pitching and defense ruling so far – Top 4th…

2 run bomb πŸ’£ and then they play the song 🎡 ” You dropped 🫳 a Bomb πŸ’£ on me.

#Classic

7:55 – The lights have been turned on.

Mount Union leaves two runners on the bottom of the fourth. Still 2-0 @ 7:59

Heading to the bottom of the fifth inning, still 2-0 Blazers

Purple Raiders get one back after a leadoff double and two ground outs. Hits are tied at 5. Off to the 6th, 2-1 is now your score (8:16)

Great sliding catch in foul territory ends the top of the 6th

Just like that….

2-2 after a bomb πŸ’£ in the bottom of the sixth

Both elimination games today have been 2-2 after the sixth inning.

Snap, that didn’t take long at all…

3-2, Belhaven

Headed to the bottom of the 7th and just like earlier, Mount Union needs one to keep playing or two for the win. (8:40)

8:44 pm…

What a great game !

Mount Union and Virginia Wesleyan University finish up tied for 7th in the nation.

Six teams remain, and we pick things back Saturday at 11:00 am.

Day #2 of the D3 Softball College World Series in Salem !

Linfield plates two runs in the top of the 6th inning, and the teams enter the top of the 7th, tied at 2-2. Virginia Wesleyan University looks to keep playing.

Linfield takes a 3-2 lead in the seventh inning, and now the Marlins must score a run or head back home to Tidewater

VWU entered the field at 50 – 0 but dropped their first two games, both by 3-2 final scores. Great season, none the less.

Would it be possible to properly celebrate Kevin Burress Day without some Softball ? I think not, so stop #2 is the D3 World Series in Salem !

#8 seeded Rowan versus #1 seed and undefeated Virginia Wesleyan University in the opening game of a week long celebration of the sport of softball in the Roanoke Valley.

The Marlins have rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning but their rally comes up short at 1:18

Yes, the D1 College World Series is getting underway out in Oklahoma City, and eight teams are set to battle for the crown πŸ‘‘ but we have eight teams doing the same right here in the Roanoke Valley.

$50.00 will get you a pass for the week, and the price drops to $30.00 if you are a senior citizen. A great deal of quality Softball for a fair asking price and parking is free of charge!

Game 1 is in the Books πŸ“š and the grounds crew is working hard to prepare the field for game #2, Redlands versus Linfield in the 4 versus 5 match-up.

The Marlins will have a long road back now, but the beauty of a double elimination event is that you get to keep playing after your first setback.

2:01 has been announced as the start time for game 2….

Options for the next stop βœ‹οΈ on Kevin Burress Day are

Magna Vista High School 🏫 (1:24)

Fort Defiance High School 🏫 (1:37)

Abingdon High School 🏫 (1:58)

Or stay seated and enjoy three more softball games…..

Tough call πŸ“ž on this one….

M-V has Cavalier baseball ⚾️ and Boys Soccer ⚽️ 4:00 & 6:00

Fort Defiance is hosting Alan Knight and his Lady Panthers in a #4 – #5 match-up in Softball at 6pm.

Abingdon High is the site for the Lady Cavaliers Girls πŸ‘§ Soccer game at 7:30. #3 versus #6

Being that it’s Kevin Burress Day, the question is, what would Kevin do ?

84Β° at First Pitch….

Oregon vs. California here in the long way from home 🏑 pairing.

We are just moments away from the two greatest words in all of Sports – Play Ball !
First Pitch at 2:03 pm

Linfield dents the scoreboard in the bottom of the first with an RBI double. Now its 2-0…

Stolen base leads to a sound bite 🫦 ” Life in the Fast Lane ” – clever !!!

Centerfielder throws out the runner at first to end the rally. Great heads up play to save a third run from scoring. 25 minutes to play the first inning.

Redlands win game 2, 9-7…
