The Hill – The final line score will show that the Lady Buffaloes 🐃 edged our Lady Cavaliers 10-9 Monday night, but the fans from both sides headed home knowing that they witnessed a little bit of this and a little bit of that in the two hour contest.

Zaire Cushman was the first Lady Cavalier to flash the leather when the centerfielder made a shoe string grab in the top of the first inning to keep the game scoreless.

Laken Lintecum looked to drive in the games first run when she sent a line shot down the third base line. Unfortunately, it found the glove of the third baseman who quickly doubled off Briley McGhee to end the threat.

Floyd County carried a 1-0 lead into the top of the third inning, and by the time the third out was recorded, the lead was 6-0 in favor of the visitors.

Rally #1 happened in the bottom of the frame as CCMS matched the Buffaloes 🐃 five spot with one of their own.

Sadie Mabry, McGhee, Peyton Burcham, Jenna Bowman, and Cushman each touched home plate during the uprising. Mahala Holderfield finished up the rally with a 2-run single.

Floyd County pushed the lead out to 8-5 with two runs 🏃‍♂️ in the top of the fourth inning, but once again, the fiesty Lady Cavaliers answered back ! Morgan Osborne scored the first run, and Mabry, McGhee, and Lintecum loaded the bases for Cheyenne Bates. Bates went shopping 🛍 at the gap, and by the time the play ended, Carroll County led 9-8 with Bates standing on third base.

Floyd County managed to end the inning with the score still 9-8, and with time becoming a factor, the fifth inning would be the final frame.

FCMS  plated two runs to regain the lead heading into the bottom of the fifth inning. The damage would have been greater, but McGhee made a circus 🎪 catch of a rocket 🚀 hit to left field to lead off the inning.

Carroll County did not go gently into the night as they loaded the bases but fell just short in scoring the tying run.

This concluded the two game series for the youngest of our three softball teams at our Cavalier Park. Hopefully, each of the players enjoyed their stay and will continue to grow in the hopes of one day calling Cavalier Park their second 🏡.
