Sunday morning πŸŒ„ Basketball πŸ€ breakdown as we are now just 48 hours away from the Head Coaching debut of Kris  Richardson !

Is it possible to be equally excited about covering a College Basketball πŸ€ game in Paris, France πŸ‡«πŸ‡· and a Middle School 🏫 Basketball game ?

The answer is YES, because its Kris Richardson coaching his initial game for the Carroll County Middle School Girls Basketball team.

Kara Lawson is taking her Lady Blue Devils over to France πŸ‡«πŸ‡· next Monday.

Tuesday evening at 5pm is the start time for the season opener against Scott Memorial Middle School 🏫. While I’m pretty sure that Coach Lawson has plenty of tape on the Baylor University Bears 🐻 but I don’t know if Coach Richardson has the same level of data on SMMS.

It would be wrong to not mention that the season opener for the Lady Cavaliers brings the loss of beloved Coach Jeff Tobler full circle. While it has been almost a full calendar year since we said our way too soon goodbyes to Coach Tobes, his passing came as the Basketball season was wrapping up last year.

Yes, truly excited about heading to Paris for the season opener next Monday night πŸŒ™ but just as excited about heading to The Hill for the season opener against Scott Memorial Middle School 🏫.!!!

Closing Note πŸ“ – we have Six Basketball teams ready to start play, Swimming πŸŠβ€β™‚οΈ,  and Wrestling as well. We look forward to sharing information about any / all of them that choose to participate…

Our Children are our Future and this morning πŸŒ„ that was on full display on The Hill !

Adrienne Harris McGuire and her Lady Cavaliers πŸ‘© Soccer program set aside their morning today in an effort to introduce the sport that the rest of the World 🌎 calls Football to area youngsters.

Marion Harris shares the view from inside the Camp and took the time to share some of the progress made today !

It’s fitting that the camp would take place within 48 hours of a ground breaking victory for Carroll County up at Radford High School. Both Coach McGuire and her Boys counterpart, Forrest Johnson, understand the uphill climb they face in regards to getting their programs on the same level as the Bobcats and Glenvar Highlanders.

Little Cavs !

The progress that has been made on both sides of the Pitch at Tommy Thompson Field πŸ‘ has been impressive and its  happening due to the commitment of the entire Soccer community. The bigger challenge is that Soccer is still an untapped game here but we are closing the gap, day by day.

Marion enjoyed catching up with some of his former players that he coached back in the day!
Carroll County High School Soccer ⚽️

Welcome πŸ™ to Saturday, October 25th where the official calendar is blank but Girls πŸ‘§ Soccer ⚽️ and Softball will both be busy.

Morning πŸŒ„ Brew
School 🏫 Calender

Adrienne Harris McGuire and Company will set up shop on the Southside of the Boulevard later this morning πŸŒ„ in hopes of continuing their efforts to introduce the game of Soccer ⚽️ to our youth.

Rick and Donna Nester will be hosting a fun trip today as Softball wraps up a portion of its off-season workout program. Promises to be a fun day for the group that calls Cavalier Park home.

Three opportunities to say Thank You πŸ™, beginning with both Marion Harris and Kevin Burress for letting me know that the Facebook post πŸ“« had been created.

The third one goes to the writer who created the post ! For most of my life, the slogan has been ” Duke, UVA and where I stay !” Carroll County has been home now for five years and I have been holding a πŸŽ€πŸŽ™πŸŽ€ for almost fifty years now. Anytime that I can add something to an event by lending my voice to it, I am happy to do it !

Cindy Edwards, Kayla Nester, Nikki Heflin, Shelia Harris, Kim Weddle, Brittany Kinney and Kelly Holderfield were an absolute pleasure to work with over the past few months !

Hanging out with Trace Reavis in Harrisonburg and with Shawn Montgomery / Cross Country runners πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ has been a joy as well. We still have a Cross Country Regional meet and hopefully a road Volleyball 🏐 match before the calendar πŸ“… officially flips from Fall to Winter.

Rossie Gravley has certainly hit the ground running πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ in her efforts with our Cheerleaders !! Very focused young Lady that falls into the category of Driven. I am a BIG FAN of Driven and I am hoping that the bond between the Cheerleaders and Football team can carry over into the Gymnasium this winter.

Looking back at a previous conversation about the goals, here is a thought process from Mrs. Gravley:

We want to regenerate that pipeline from sandlot cheer, through middle school, in preparation for JV and Varsity level cheer. That starts with relationships and communication.

” I’m so grateful to have the support of our Rec Department Director, Kurt Thiele, and communication with Middle School Cheer Coach Nicole Lam. We’ve got to create those relationships early and work together so these girls develop in a progressive and positive way. They are doing a great job.”

That leaves us the magical part of the Fall as some history was made last Friday night as Carroll County defeated Radford for the first time ever as Carroll County High School!! Allen Worrell mentioned that back before he was born ( I was three) that Hillsville High School tamed the Bobcats in 1966.

6-2 with two more to play might lead to a deeper post season run for Seth Greer and his team but for the time being, enjoy the defeat of the Bobcats.

The πŸŽ€πŸŽ™πŸŽ€ is put away until next Spring but the willingness to share others good news will march on…

Being that its only 2:30, Brother Osborne hasn’t sent in his Bible Verse of the Day yet but when he does, it will be right here.

Philippians 4:19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

Have yourself a Blessed Day πŸ™Œ

Kris Richardson and his Middle School 🏫 Girls πŸ‘§ Basketball πŸ€ team is set to debut next week !!!

The schedule has changed a few times, so I have been waiting for the updated one before I sent anything to you. Our team consists of 13 players:

Zari Cushman, Jenna Bowman, Briley McGhee, Ashlynn Smith, Macy Lineberry, Bella Phipps, Kierra Robinson, Mattie Carico, Natalie Dalton, Kadence Eades, Maggie Branch, Bristol Jones, Reagan Combs

Managers Pippah Hancock, June Baldwin, Rhylin Combs, Riley Bond

Between the Middle School and the High School, Carroll County will have six basketball πŸ€ teams and we will happily share ANY / ALL information sent in as our way of showing support for all that would like the help !

We are excited about the Basketball πŸ€ Whisperer making his season debut !

It seemed like it was just yesterday that I walked into the Auxiliary Gym and saw Nikki Heflin and Sheila Harris working πŸ’ͺ out the Junior Varsity team yet tonight it was time to say our Goodbyes πŸ‘‹ to our JV players..

At the beginning of tryouts…

To start this final story with anything other than how elegant the three members of the JV team πŸ’™ spoke about their Coaches  during a pre-match ceremony would be an injustice. Kudos to the team for creating πŸ‘ a tug at your heart ❀ moment that I believe that both Ladies will cherish…

Two pics from Mama Smoot
Travis Osborne with a few pics…

In regards to the actual match, our Lady πŸ‘© Cavaliers pushed the visiting Knights into extra points before falling 26-24.

Morgan Osborne βš“ anchored the service line from 13-16 until 18-16 and Aubrey Hanshaw tied the set at 20-20 with an Ace – pictured above.

Scarlett Dalton landed an Ace to get Carroll County to set point at 24-23 but James River strung together three straight points to take the set, 26-24.

Carroll County trailed 12-6 when Paige Ogle and Hanshaw teamed up on a 4-0 run πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ. The Lady Cavaliers capped their comeback when Osborne landed an Ace and Aaliyah Hampton finished up a point to make it 14-14.

James River closed out the match with an 11-2 run, making the final score 25-16.

Now the season is over and the eight Sophomores will work on their games in hoping πŸ™ to play on the Varsity team next year. The trio of Freshman and 8th graders have plenty of Volleyball 🏐 left in their futures !

Thank You Nikki Heflin and Thank You Shelia Harris for coaching up this group of youngsters ! Job Well Done !!!

Time to sneak in one more Photo πŸ“· of our Middle School 🏫 squad !
