Darian Brown and his Middle School 🏫 Basketball Cavaliers had a Good News, Bad News kinda day on Wednesday evening as they fell 32 – 23 at Fort Chiswell

The Fort – The Good News for Head Coach Darian Brown was that after four straight games lost to the weather, our Cavaliers were able to play a game on Wednesday at The Fort.

The Bad News was the team was a little rusty from the two week layoff, falling 32-23 against the Pioneers in the next to the last game of the season.

The defensive effort in the first half kept Carroll County in the contest as the teams headed to the lockeroom tied at 10 -10 but Fort was able to pull away over the final 12 minutes of play.

Five Cavaliers landed in the scoring column, led by Gibson Barr with 9 points and Jaxon Stanovcak with 6. Sam Johnson dropped four points while both Remi Millaway and Caleb Hill added a basket 🧺

Back to the good news side of things, one of the four lost games will be made up tonight as the Cavaliers will have one more opportunity to gain some valuable playing time at Blacksburg.

Coach Brown took the time to share his thoughts on his team and the night πŸŒ™…

” Tonight was tough being we haven’t played a game since the 4th of this month. I told my guys there’s an old saying β€œit’s hard to beat a good team 3 times” and that showed tonight. Fort is a great team and they are well coached. I think the weather has really hurt our momentum that we were building and that also showed tonight. At the end of the day we can’t make excuses and I told my guys that. All we can do is learn from it and move on.

Tomorrow we finish our season with Blacksburg and I’m hoping that we knocked all the dust off tonight. Tomorrow will be our version of senior day for our 8th graders. I talked to our guys tonight postgame about it and we are starting our 4 8th graders tomorrow night. I’m proud of how far they’ve come and the leadership they’ve shown this year. Our younger guys have learned a lot from them not only about basketball but how to be respectful young men.

No matter the outcome tomorrow night I have had the best year with this group of kids. I also want to shoutout my assistant coach Garrett Reitzel for all of his help and the countless hours he’s put in to these kids development. Go Cavs!”

Thank You Coach, for both taking the time at the end of a very long day to pen πŸ–Š your thoughts and for giving of yourself to this group of young Cavaliers!

Let’s call πŸ“ž this one Thirsty Thursday as we have a 6 pack (Diet Root Beer) of Cavalier events in our Morning πŸŒ„ Brew!

Kira Lawson and Duke University host a 10 win team tonight at Cameron Indoor

Have yourself a Blessed Day πŸ™Œ

Kris Richardson never doubted his Middle School 🏫 Girls πŸ‘§ Basketball πŸ€ team, even at 1-11, then sure enough down the stretch it was only Mother Nature that could slow his Lady Cavaliers down !Latest victory came on Wednesday night at Fort Chiswell, 29-27…

There’s a reason why Kris Richardson is both a Friend and a Neighbor of mine. The two of us don’t have time for self-doubt in our lives so when we set out to make sure we provided coverage for his season, we knew we would never see Kris flinch.

Even on the night that the team saw its record drop to 1-11, Kris knew it was just a matter of time before his team would turn the corner.

Once the train πŸš† reached full steam ahead, it took an act from Mother Nature (pictured above ) to slow down the Richardson Express. A series of games fell from the schedule during the recent winter storms and unlike the High School teams, there’s simply no time built in to make up games.

Richardson was feeling fortunate enough that one of the postponed games was added back as the season has been extended one day and the team will travel up to Blacksburg Thursday night.

The latest victory lifted the squad to 6-12-4 with one to play.

‘ We earned a 29-27 win over Ft. Chiswell tonight,” said Richardson. ” After almost a 2 week layoff we barely squeaked by tonight. We had good effort for about a half. Fortunately, we got a lead and were able to hold on. They took the lead late but we showed resilience and fought back. Good enough for the win tonight but we have to play better tomorrow.”

Zari Cushman once again led the offense with 16 of the 29 points. Natalie Dalton added seven points. Briley McGhee( 4 points) and Kierra Robinson ( 2 points) both added clutch baskets 🧺 in the contest.

Tomorrow evening would be incorrect, now that its past Midnight back home 🏑 so we’ll say later today, the Battling Lady Cavaliers will wrap up their season on the road.

I need to give Beth Bouldin an extra Thank You πŸ™ for all of her assistance with providing coverage for the Girls team as her Son plays on the Boys team under Darian Brown. It’s a special person who would willingly take on extra responsibility in an already to busy World 🌎.
