The phrase from a long time ago started with the Old Yankee Stadium π being called the House π that Ruth Built. Now, Babe Ruth didn’t actually ” build ” Yankee Stadium but I loved the reference so over the years, I added to it.
Welcome to Lucas Oil Stadium, the House that Peyton Manning built and Welcome to Safeco Field, the House that Ken Griffey Junior built.
Well, Joe Goddard, the man who I introduce at every home game that I announce for the West Virginia Tech Golden Bears π», as the Legendary Joe Goddard actually built a Field for his High School.
Joe Goddard is a living legend and I was blessed to try to pen π his story
Thanks to Chris Graham at the Augusta Free Press and in the link above, the local Newspaper π° in Beckley, West Virginia, this story was read across an entire region.
Β It has been nothing short of a privilege to soak in the thoughts of Joe Goddard over the past decade. Each Spring, Goddard and I serve as the little voices in the ear of Skipper Lawrence Nesselrodt as he leads our Golden Bears. Goddard helps with the X’s and O’s while I assist with the things that take place outside of the chalked lines.
Β When Joe first told me the story about turning down an opportunity to continue his professional Baseball career within the San Diego Padres organization, I hung on every word.
Β Returning to West Virginia to teach and Coach was the better fit. The problem was the School didn’t have a Baseball field at the time. Not to worry, Joe fired up his tractor and started to plow down some acreage. He had his little Girl with him at the time so Joe had to get creative while he built his field. Taking a rope, Joe tied a sled that was dragged behind him and Father π¨ and Daughter spent quality time together β€.
That little Girl π§, is all growed up now and has turned out just fine. She calls Joe, Dad and her patients call her Doctor !

Joe Goddard is a name that will appear numerous times in the Baseball βΎοΈ portion of our upcoming Book !

Β Marion Harris is in the process of creating a Ryder Cup type of an event here in Carroll County. The participants have been chosen and the final details are being ironed out as I type.
Trenton Miller made the cut βοΈ and that led to a trip out to Olde Mill Golf β³ Resort for a quick lesson from our Head Pro, Bo Goins.
Miller stopped by our place long enough to swap a story or two, with the highlight being one about how well he can Sing. September 13th became the Hot π₯ Topic after that.

Iβve been reading the blog posts as they come into my inbox, a lot of exciting things happening in Cavalierland!
CCMS Cavalier Football kicked off with a bang during summer conditioning and now the season has begun. The program is offering big opportunities for those whoβve shown the desire and put in the work. Says a lot when so many 12-14 years olds give up hours and days to their summer break to attend weightlifting. And for the village of parents, family, and friends that got them there, also the coaches and their staff that worked with the athletes, huge props to them as well.
Big thanks to the CCMS Athletic Director Kayla Nester for diving right in and getting our fall fundraiser going, βfill-the-calendar, pick your date to payβ. She didnβt waste any time getting the ball rolling for CCMS Athletics!
CCMS plays Thursday Aug 28 5:30pm at CCHS, followed by the CCHS JV football team. Concessions will be open, weβll have some new Cavalier apparel available for purchase as well.
Great week for all the Cavaliers in Cavalierland, Godspeed to all! ππ©Άπ€
Thank You Ma’am !!

Β The term people use is having a Dog π in the Fight while others prefer having skin in the game. Either way, there is a big difference between being responsible for getting the bleachers at Tommy Thompson Field up and running versus driving down to King, North Carolina to watch your Grandson play Middle School football.
After raising three daughters, Tammy is now getting to experience the part of the game of Football that matters the most. Nothing compares to looking out on the field and thinking, that’s my Boy π¦ out there !
