Thoughts from Dad 👨 :

Being Maddie’s parent is a blessing in many ways.
Seeing her compassion and kind heartedness drives those around her to be better. She has a great work ethic and the determination to learn new things that are shaping her into the person she is becoming is exciting.

Watching her grow, and develop her own unique personality, helps her navigate challenges with a positive mindset.
Being a part of the volleyball team has allowed Maddie to understand the value of a team atmosphere which she strives to be a part of. Maddie also put in extra work so she can excel academically. These are just a few of the things that make me so proud to be her Dad.

Coach Cindy Edwards :

Maddie Hyatt is another young player with a lot of potential she has dealt with injuries last year with a broken ankl, and then one of her teammates accidentally hit a ball that hit her and gave her a concession .

She is one of the hardest working kids I’ve had, she is so hard on herself. She is a perfectionist can’t wait to see her develop over the next few years

Thoughts from Maddie :

Hello! I enjoy volleyball so much, I love the team atmosphere. I love learning new things and continuing to get more comfortable out on the court. My team means the world to me, I watch how hard everybody works every day and I love watching them grow.

We have come so far as a team. I’m very lucky to have such a good coach who pushes me and who has taught me so much.

On the days i’m not playing volleyball I enjoy going to the barn and riding my horse, Lenny. I’m so lucky to have the opportunities that I do!

From Mom 👩 :

Being a member of the Volleyball team has had a tremendous effect on Maddie’s commitment to herself and her own personal goals, as well as supporting her teammates success.

Maddie’s dedication individually and as a team player is evident in her efforts in practice and on Game Days. The collaborative nature of the sport has strengthened her ability to work effectively in a group setting, as well as learning when to lead and when to follow. Most importantly, the friendships she has established with her Volleyball Family extends beyond the game, helping shape the individual she is becoming.

Assistant Coach Maleah Neely :

Maddie is an absolute stellar kid. After her injury last year, I wasn’t really sure how she would do, but she has blown me away with her work ethic.

She played club for Wythe Elite over last winter and she has improved so much. Her serve and defense has been vital for us in many games when other players are struggling.

She has worked this season on making herself a better hitter on the outside, but I think where she has made the biggest improvement is in her confidence. She has gone from timid and afraid of getting on the floor to more assertive. Her serve is deceptively good because of the way that it drops once it goes over the net. Once she can put all the pieces together – serve receive, defense, and hitting – I think that she could be a good compliment to Ali on the outside.

A mid season concussion took her out for a little bit, but she is back and better than ever. I’m looking forward to seeing her compete for the outside hitter position over the next few years because competition breeds excellence and I know that she strives to be the best she can be.

Ladies & Gentlemen, I present to you, Miss Maddie Hyatt !

Here’s what Thursday will look like for the 100 of you that wake ⏰ up and read about the adventures….

Some stories are designed to focus in on just one thing and they end up on Facebook with the person who needs to know its there being tagged.

Other stores are designed to just share a thought or two about what a Day is going to hold. Today is going to be a Day !

The Varsity Boys 👦 and Girls 👧 Cross Country Race 🏁 story has been finished !

Next up will be the Middle School 🏫 Cross Country Race story.

Another Volleyball 🏐 Player Profile will follow that.

Then its off to an early Morning Dentist appointment down in Mount Airy. Everyone loves 💘 being in a Dentist Chair 💺, right ?

Second appointment down in Mount Airy that will fill a couple of hours.

Just after Lunch, I get the privilege of meeting up with Dr. Oliver McBride once again! We are set to visit with some of the Families who are currently living in the homes 🏡 built here in Carroll County. I truly appreciate 🙏 the passion that Dr McBride still has about the things that are important to him.

Next stop ✋ will be the High School 🏫 for the Junior Varsity Volleyball 🏐 match and eventually the Varsity match.

Kris Richardson is going out of his way to grab Linda for me and bring her to the High School 🏫 so that we can leave together from there to get down to Greensboro by the end of the night as a Friday morning meeting awaits down there.

Then the focus will become on getting those three stories written.

Piece of Cake 🎂….. You Got This….

Says the voices inside my Head !!

Being that Carroll County was the Host School 🏫 , Coach Montgomery was responsible fort all of the results.

Here is the breakdown for our group of five on a chilly afternoon…

Ethan Edwards (9th), Garrison Wheatley (13th), Griffin Wheatley (15th), Micah Gwynn (23rd) and Adam Alderman (24th).

On the Varsity Girls 👧 side of the Race 🏁, Carroll County was represented by Amelia Forsyth. Prior to the event I was able to spend a few minutes with her and Coach Montgomery discussing the thought process of Amelia being the lone member of the Girls Varsity team and the thoughts that go along with that.

As far as the race 🏁 on Wednesday, Forsyth ran the course in 25:48. That time split the field, 13 runners 🏃‍♂️ finished ahead of her and 13 runners finished behind her but none of them were wearing the same colors.

It’s not unusual for a High School Athlete playing a team sport to advance beyond their teammates when it comes to the post season. Golfer 🏌️‍♂️ Trace Reavis just finished up at the State Tournament as an individual and on the Tennis side of things Jabin Talley and Ethan Richardson were still competing well beyond the final match of the team and Brayden Smoot ➕ Corrie Delp represented Track & Field at State after the team was finished.

But here, Forsyth is a one person Band from the start to the finish. Growing up in the Midwest (Kansas) before moving to Fort Chiswell and then finally to Carroll County, our Cavalier noted that the only time its obvious to her that she’s in this alone is at the Starting Line.

Normally the runners 🏃‍♂️ from a team start a race bunched together at the start. They will start the race side by side and the final minutes will be spent as a group. Forsyth is standing alone, being squeezed by packs of runners from other teams.

Carroll County Boys team finished third on the day as five of the six members competed the race with the top 4 counting towards the team score (much like HS Golf). On the Girls side, Forsyth doesn’t get to make the team score list because of the minimum requirements.

This is not intended to be a sad story, quite the opposite. Forsyth is well spoken and intelligent with a grasp on the fact that the situation is what it is. Cross Country at the Jigh School 🏫 level is not a place where the Cool Kids gather. The idea 💡 of running 3.2 miles up and down hills in all types of weather is not for everyone.

Know that Carroll County High School Cross Country Girls 👧 team will not post a team score this season but know that they are being represented by one determined young Lady, Amelia Forsyth.
