When you’re sitting at the Brain 🧠 Doctor for your Wife’s 4 Hour Appointment there’s time to write ✍ about Anthony Barnes and Kris Richardson !

Carroll County High School 🏫 Boys πŸ‘¦ Basketball πŸ€ team is geared up and ready to go. Saturday morning πŸŒ„ at 10am they will host / play their second and final scrimmage under the watchful eyes πŸ‘€ of Head Coach Anthony Barnes and Assistant Coach Kris Richardson.

The 2023-2024 season was as successful as any in recent decades but the three Seniors that led the way will need to be replaced. Davis Reitzel and Jabin Talley were both starters on the team and Noah Manning played key πŸ”‘ minutes along the way.

Reitzel will be a double void as the graceful Big Man πŸ‘¨was quite possibly the most popular player in the School 🏫 no matter the sport.

Three remaining starters, Bryce Smoot, Ethan Richardson and Isaiah Easter are all ready to hit the ground running πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ. Brayden Smoot and Cody Reece were the first two of the bench all season so both will have Bigger sneakers πŸ‘Ÿ to fill.

Here’s a look at the Roster :

Brayden Smoot #1
Bryce Smoot #3
E.J. Conner #5
Landon Phillips #10
Isaiah Easter #12
Isaiah Leagans # 13
Ethan Richardson #20
Jay Burnette #22
Kyle Bunn #24
Landon Puckett #32
Cody Reece #34
Trace Reavis #50

Here’s what we know going in with regards to the 2024-2025 team. They will play end to end from start to finish and will make up for their lack of height with speed and physical condition. If the Cavaliers are in the game in the fourth quarter, look for them to have more fuel left in the tank than their opponent.

Bryce Smoot is still a bit dinged up from the recently completed Football season but will hopefully be back to his normal self soon enough.

Richardson will continue with double duty as the Senior swims πŸŠβ€β™‚οΈ for CCHS during the Hoops season.

Easter has displayed a Year to Year improvement that has been off the charts. His efforts πŸ‘ in the weightroom show everyday.

Reavis is fresh off a trip to the Golf State Tournament where the junior earned a Top Ten finish. It will be interesting to see πŸ‘€ if that level of success on the Links spills over onto the Basketball πŸ€ court ???

Both Reece and Brayden Smoot will move into the starting lineup now in place of Reitzel and Talley. Reece will need to play BIG for the Cavs to find the level of success they hope for this season.

The depth of the rotation will play a big part as the season develops. Puckett and Burnette have experience within the program while Bunn, Conner, Leagans and Phillips will each look to push for playing time.

Barnes and Richardson have selected their twelve Cavaliers. The team will hustle, play in your face defense and launch a few 3-pointers along their way.

They will be well coached and disciplined = Fun to Watch…. Coming to a Gymnasium near you VERY soon!

Russell Smoot, Anthony Barnes and Brayden Smoot…

Thursday Night πŸŒ™ ACC Football 🏈 with serious Bowl πŸ₯£ implications for GT, 🐺 and Duke !

Atlanta – Georgia Tech (6-4) is hosting North Carolina State on Thursday night πŸŒ™ Football 🏈.

The Home 🏑 team has already punched their ticket 🎟 to the upcoming Bowl πŸ₯£ season while NC State needs one more victory, over either the Yellow Jackets or in Chapel Hill next week.

Georgia Tech finishes the season with Georgia so this might be their last shot at victory #7.

From Duke’s perspective, the Blue Devils are pulling for NC State. There are two distinct reasons for this with the first one being they own a victory over the Wolf 🐺 Pack which will increase in value.

The second reason is GT handed Duke (7-3) its first loss of the season so they want to avoid finishing with identical records.

The first quarter just ended (8:19) with the score tied at 7-7. GT struck first with a defensive TD but 🐺 answered back with a nice long drive.

Sadly, the ACC is being projected to only get one bid to the party πŸ₯³ of 12 that is the Playoffs. It could still change but it would appear that only SMU, Miami or Clemson will get the Big Invite.

The next concern for everyone waiting on their Bowl πŸ₯£ destinations is that if Notre Dame doesn’t make the playoffs, the fall into or Bowl pool. So, Go Fighting Irish in the final two games!

Pitt is 7-3 but on a 3-game losing streak. Syracuse and Duke are the other teams at 7-3.

GT adds a 43 yard FG at 12:29 (2), taking a 10-7 lead.

What does all of this mean ? The ACC has 10 different Bowl πŸ₯£ Games and right now they have 9 teams with 6+ wins.

Boston College, NCSU, Virginia Tech, California and Virginia each sit at 5 while Wake Forest has earned 4. The Deacons have Duke and Miami left so their chances are pretty slim as they need to sweep the pair.

Once the 10 spots are filled the remaining ACC schools will be farmed out to other Bowls πŸ₯£. The fact that the Pac 12 was dismantled creates open spaces all over the place.

The Virginia – Virginia Tech game is guaranteed a 6 Win season. Both teams have an opportunity to get in this weekend.

What are the desired destinations for the Schools 🏫 ? Top 5 are Ideal

El Paso, Texas(12/31), San Diego, California(12/27), Charlotte, North Carolina, (1/3) Jacksonville (1/2) and Orlando, Florida (12/28)…

Cold πŸ₯Ά Weather Bowls πŸ₯£ – Annapolis, Maryland + Boston, Massachusetts + New York City. Each of these Bowls are played on 12/28.

Warm weather but lesser Bowls πŸ₯£ take place in Tampa Bay (12/20) and Birmingham (12/27).

GT adds a second FG, this time from 41 yards at 5:15 (2)….

Duke is Bowl πŸ₯£ eligible for just the 11th time in my 61 years so maybe I should not get greedy but not sure how many times we will be in the Top Five of the 17 team league (18 if you count the Irish ).

Plenty of reasons to watch NCAA Football over NFL Football 🏈 but then again I am just trying to get to Florida or Charlotte if not the Pop Tarts Bowl in Orlando….

Half-time in Atlanta with your score being 13-7 at 9:07 pm…

The rest of the schedule πŸ“… this weekend !

9:28 pm – Start of 2nd Half

🐺 3 and out, Punt (12:55)

GT – FD, then Punt (10:56)

NCSU – FD, then Punt (7:29)

GT – 45 yard FG = 2 possession game at 16-7 (3:55)

NCSU – Driving with two first downs as 3rd quarter ends [10:00 pm] TD on 1st play ▢️ of 4th makes it 16-14….

NCSU forces Punt, has ball with 11:35 to play

NCSU – ugly 3 and out, 53 yard punt (10:17)

GT – was in Red Zone before having an end zone interception at 7:33. 🐺 are down now to 1 or 2 more attempts.

NCSU – 3rd interception on the night πŸŒ™, at 6:44. GT scores on 1st play to make it 23-14. 🐺 defense has played great but their offense has given up 14 points (6:40). Looks like the 🐺 will need to defeat UNC next weekend to make it 6-6.

NCSU – with ball down 9…..Wolf🐺 say NOT SO FAST as they needed just 2:33 to make it 23-21 with 4:07 left. 🐺 QB has 3 pics and 3 running πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ TD’s

GT – 3 and out, Punt with 2:30 left.

NCSU – Down 2, 150 seconds left….

2:00 Warning ⚠️ – 1 FD converted

Great Finish Ahead…

Hollywood Smothers breaks one for a 53 yard TD run πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ and 🐺 add a 2-point conversion !!! Pack lead 29-23 with 90 seconds remaining…

Georgia Tech just marched down the field 75 yards in 7 plays in 68 seconds without using a TO – PAT makes it 30-29 with 0:22 left….

NC State – 1st and 10 with 0:17 left and 2 TO’s

29 yard pass play and TO at 0:10 left. It would be a 57 yard FG now…

Dropped pass at 0:06…. so close…

58 yard FG attempt……

GT uses final TO to ice 🧊 kicker…

36 points scored in 4th quarter….

Here’s the Kick from 58…Long enough but wide left by 6 inches…

What a Crazy, Crazy Ballgame.

James River High School falls just short in its bid for a spot in the State Championship…

James River took a 3+ hour Bus 🚌 ride to Ridgeview Wednesday night πŸŒ™ and hit the ground running πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ by taking the openIng set 25-21. But sadly for the Knights it would be the only time they would reach 25 on the night, falling 3-1.

This closes out play for the Three Rivers District Volleyball 🏐 teams. JRHS might have faired different if the match had been played in Buchanan as seven hours on a School Bus makes for a long day. As it is, James River will finish their season tied for 3rd in the State (Class 2).

Auburn – Rappahannock will kick off Championship Saturday in Salem at Noon with Ridgeview – Fort Defiance set to follow at 2:15. Hidden Valley will represent our Region in the Class 3 Nightcap at 4:30 pm.

Congratulations πŸ‘ to the Knights on their terrific season.
